A.M. SCOTT, merchant, Ladoga, is one of the self-made and
leading business men of Ladoga, where he began the mercantile
business in 1866 with a limited capital, which was of his own
accumulation. At first his business only amounted to $10,000 or
$12,000 per year, but by close attention and honorable dealing
with his many customers, his trade has increased to over $50,000
yearly. It may well be said he is one of the successful business
men of Montgomery County. In 1876 and 1877 he was elected as joint
representative of Montgomery and Parke Counties, which office he filled
with credit to himself and his constituents. In 1861 he enlisted
in Cot B 43rd Ind. Vol. Inf. and was promoted to 1st Lt, but
after serving for some time he was compelled to resign on account
of ill health. Mr. Scott is the son of Alexander and Martha
Scott, who were natives of Pa, and Ky, and removed to Putnam County, Indiana in 1826 where A.M. Scott was born March 23, 1836. In 1866 he
marr. Miss Matilda MILLER, daughter of Rev. John Miller of Putnam
County. Mr. Scott is a Mason and a member of the Knights of
Pythias, and an elder in the Presbyterian Church. - kbz

Capt. A.M. Scott had expected to spend the remainder of his days in
Ladoga but says he cannot endure to face his former friends upon whom
the bank failure has brought such trouble. He and Mrs. Scott will make
their home in Indianapolis with Mr. and Mrs. Edward Alfred. We are
informed that Harry Daughtery & family will remove to the South and
Mr. Coffman and family expect to leave Ladoga. These two younger men
have the best years of life before them and as both are trained in hard
work they will probably be successful in recovering what they have lost.
