James Lang’s Company of Pennsylvania Troops – James Colonel US Army retired in 1942 Serve through WWI and for a time in WWII until retirement. Ben born C’ville 27 March 1879 s/o Warren Henry born 3 Feb 1850 C’ville died 5 Dec 1946 Lakeland Fl – Martha S. Frazer 29 April 1854 Warsaw, Indiana d. 5 July 1930 C’ville married 28 May 1878 Warsaw, Ind. James S. Frazer 17 July 1824 d 20 Feb 1893 Warsaw marr Caroline DeFrees dau of James Stuart DeFrees 28 Dec 1779 d 7 Dec 1847 and Margaret Daugherty – Joseph Hutton DeFrees – remained in service 7 years – carpenter on a ship that went between Philadelphia and the West Indies. Three times prisoner, twice on the celebrated prison ship Jersey. First short and traded in prison exchange. Second lengthy – very sick, near starvation and filth – his sister, wife of a Tory living in NY Succeeded in having him transferred to her house where she nursed him back to health and he was then exchanged. Next went out on the brig, Active and was captured by a British man of war near Havana. DeFrees and four of his comrades were left to repair damages, the brig at anchor. They made an escape and finally arrived back in Philadelphia – making that his last voyage.. ---kbz
