POYNTS,
William R., Farmer, New Market, was born in Scott County, Kentucky Dec 27,
1828, and is the 4th child of James and Rebecca (ROSS) Poynts. His ancestors on
the paternal side were Irish. His mother's people were from Maryland. When very
young his father died; and when he had attained suitable age he was apprenticed
to learn the bricklayer's trade. He served 3 years, and worked one as
journeyman. He married Ann Eliza RICE, Feb 6, 1851 in Fayette County, Kentucky
and in the following autumn moved to this county, and settled in Union
Township, where he has since made his home. He owns 203 acres of land, worth
$9.000. He obtained $900 by marriage; the rest of his property is the result of
industry and careful management. Mrs. Poynts has been a communicant in the
Christian Church 34 years. They have had 5 children; William born Oct 12, 1854;
James, Aug 25, 1860; John, Oct 29, 1871 and two daughters, which died in
