Perkins - Thomas

Our local conductors, Samuel Moore and Thomas Perkins, were
tendered a reception by their fellow employees in Indianapolis a
few days ago. The Times say: "Thomas H. Perkins and Samuel Moore,
veteran passenger conductors of the PA RR, were honored this
afternoon by more than 60 fellow employees with a reception and
party at the Union Station. Perkins has completed 50 years
service and Moore 49 Sunday night. JT Ridgely, Superintendent of
the Indianapolis division, presented Perkins with a gold button
and Moore with a certificate. Walter J. Behmer, assistant
trainmaster, gave a short talk and Paul A. Kriese, special agent
for the Southwestern general division, was in charge of the
affair. Perkins entered the service as a water boy on the old TH
& L RR, April 1, 1878. He was made a brakeman 1881, and
conductor Dec 22, 1884. He became a passenger conductor June 1894
and is a charter member of the PA RR Veteran Employees Association
and for awhile was President of the former So. Bend Division
Asociation. He lives at Terre Haute." -- transcribed by kbz
