28--GRANT ERNEST PEFFLEY (son of David Henry and Mary Melissa Rettinger ) resided at Horse Creek,
Montana for six years on a homestead upon which he proved up shortly before the
World War. Soon after being inducted into the service he was sent with a
Replacement Co. to France where he was assigned to a Motor Truck Corps
because of his experience with motors and automobiles, and was in action with
the Army before the Armistice was signed, after which he was with the Army of
Occupation and was stationed on the Rhine when he took sick with pneumonia
and was sent to a hospital in France where he died. He was in Co. G, 310th
Motor Transport Corps. He is buried in the St. Mihiel American Cemetery at Thiancourt, Meuse-et-Moselle, France.
Grant was a member of Ridgeley Lodge, I. O. O. F., at Ladoga, joining this
order shortly after obtaining his majority and was active in Lodge work. After
moving to the far west he became a sojourning member at Horse Creek, Mont.
He joined the Christian Church at Ladoga.
