Oxley - Joseph H.

A Joseph H. Oxley died at age 49 in Wingate on August 5, 1889. This is assumedly this doctor, but little else is known about the man. He is probably the son of Nthan and Sarah Oxley, living in the Pleasant Hill are in the 1860 census.
Having died at age 49 in 1889, he would have been born about 1840, making him a perfect age for the Civil War and a Joseph E. Oxley who died August 5, 1889 received a government stone - 86th Regiment Co. K (private) delivered to Crawfordsville, Indiana.
In the 1880 census, he is listed as 38, living in Dover, Indiana with his wife, Hester A. age 25 and Harley E son born in December 1879. Joseph H. Oxley married Hester A. Farlow 30 December 1876 in Boone County (Bk C-7 p 66).
Hester remained a widow for quite a long time, living alone as the widow of Joseph H. Oxley on Redmon Street in Indianapolis. Their child, Harley had married that year, as well.
Findagrave lists him buried in Oakland Cemetery, at Elmdale. Links are to Nathan J. Oxley 1818-1887 and Sarah A 1824-1900 as his parents and having at least one brother, John N. who died at age eight in January of 1862.
