Eugene Norris was on Saturday sentenced to from two to 14 years, for highway robbery at Crawfordsville. He "held up" Charles Seaman a couple of weeks ago in order to raise money to take himself and his bride on an excursion to Cedar Lake.-transcribed by kbz

It is cheaper in Crawfordsville now to knife a man than to get drunk. Eugene Norris, who used his knife so viciously Sunday escaped a police court this morning with a fine of $10.65. The regulation drunk assessment is $11.35.

Eugene Norris, colored, is in jail for having been too handy with a knife in an altercation with Dot Wolfe. The trouble occurred on North Green Street yesterday afternoon and the attack it seems was entirely unjustified. Norris was taking a stroll with Phoebe Derrickson, a dusky Bowery belle, when he passed Wolfe, who made some jestng remark. Norris flew into a passion and struck Wolfe with a rock. Not content with this he drew a knife and made several vicious slashes one of which penetrated his clothing and made an ugly but not serious wound in the region of his thigh. The wound will give him but slight inconvenience but the fact that it did not result very seriously is no fault of his assailant. The scrapping element hereabouts have gotten entirely too free in their use of knives of late. There has been several cutting scrapes and the offenders in each case have escaped with a minimum fine. Unless steps are taken to stop it there will be a fatal thrust made one of these fine days. – transcribed by kbz
