An inquest of lunacy was held on C.R. McAllister, Monday afternoon
and he was found to be of unsound mind. He will be taken to the Central
Hospital at Indianapolis as soon as the formal arrangements can be made.
Mr. McAllister has been in poor health for several months. He sold his
little farm southwest of town and moved to Maplewood, where he traded
for a store. He was not satisfied there and disposed of his business and
moved here, buying Wm. Jarvis Jr's place on East Main. He has been
worrying about his farm until it has affected his mind. A week or so ago
he was overcome by heat while working for Mrs. Grimes near Guion. On
Sunday afternoon he got his revolver and his actions convinced his wife
that he was going to kill himself. This led tot he inquest for lunacy.
It is hoped that proper treatment will restore his mental balance. For
the present he is in charge of the IOOF [Independent Order of Odd
Fellows] Lodge of which he is a member. Reports of his condition and
actions have been greatly exaggerated.
