The Houston Tx Post of Feb 15 carries a front page picture of
Miss Mildred Milligan, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Frank Milligan
with the following: "The presidential inaugural ball committee
has invited Mildred Milligan and her harp ensemble of Houston to
play at Pres. Roosevelt's inaugural ball in Washington auditorium
on March 4. "The invitation was extended Miss Milligan through
Mrs. John Allan Dougherty, chairman of the music committee for
the inaugural ball. Miss Milligan and members of the ensemble
will leave Houston Feb. 28 for the national capital. A signal
honor was bestowed upon Houston whent he inaugural ball committee
selected this group of artists to appear on the musical program
for America's greatest social event. The Mildred Milligan harp
ensemble is the only Texas representation on the musical program
for the inaugural ball. Other features of the evening will be an
Indian Reservation Dance and a Harmonica band from Philadelphia,
according to Mrs. Dougherty. Miss Milligan organized her harp
ensemble some 10 years ago when she moved to Houston and began
teaching. The lovely ensemble has enhanced the beauty of many
musical programs in Houston and throughout the state."
