John Milligan, a pioneer settler of Brown Twp, died at his  home near Waveland, yesterday morning at 8 o'clock. Mr. Milligan  was b. in Perry Co, Pa March 29, 1808. In 1814 his parents  removed to a farm near Pittsburg, where he lived until he was 19  years of age. he then attended school at different places. In  1828 he came to this county and taught school for a few months.  He was a clerk for Jonathan Powers for about a year and in 18e0  he sold goods on commission for IC Elston, Sr. for 3 years, near  where t he present town of Waveland is situated. In 1834 he  purchased the land upon which the town of Waveland now stands and  built the first house ever erected in that town. A year later he  laid out said town and sold the first lot on Jan 25, 1835. In  1829 he marr. Miss Lucinda ELMORE daughter of John Elmore, and a  sister of C.W. Elmore of this city. He leaves a widow and 7  children living, one dau. having d. several years ago. Mr.  Milligan has been a member of the Presbyterian Church over 55  years and an elder for 50 years. He was a bro. of Joseph Milligan  of this city. Mr. Milligan was industrious and had acccumulated a  large fortune, but had lost the greater portion of it by  attempting to aid the Anderson, Lebanon & St. Louis RR. The  funeral will take place on Mon. afternoon at 2 o'clock the  services to be conducted by Rev. jH Sammis.

John MILLIGAN, retired, Waveland, father of the above named  village (Waveland) was b. in what is now Perry Co, Pa. March 29,  1803. In 1814 his parents removed to Alleghany Co, Pa and located  near Pittsburgh. Here Mr. Milligan remained until about 19 years  of age, after which he went to live with his uncle at Georgetown,  DC and attended school and at the age of 22 he taught his first  school and in May, 1827, he came to Ohio, where he taught school  for 18 months, and in 1828 came to Montgomery Co, Indiana, where  he taught school for a short time. In 1829 he engaged as clerk  for J. Powers, at Crawfordsville, and in 1830 sold goods on  commission for I.C. ELSTON in the country, in Brown Twp,  afterward embarking in the business for himself at the same  place, where he continued until 1834 when he came to where  Waveland now is, then a wilderness, and purchased land and built  the first house that was built in the town. In 1835 he laid out  the village of Waveland, and Jan 25, 1835, sold the first lots.  In 1829 he marr. Miss Lucinda ELMORE, daughter of John Elmore,  who was one of the pioneers of the county. Their marr. has been  blessed with 8 children living and one deceased; the living are  Edwin M; Matilda J; Sarah E; Thomas E; John W; Samuel J; James R;  William and Mary, deceased. Mr. Milligan has been a constant  member of the Presbyterian church since 1829, and has always  voted the republican ticket.
