MILLER, A.J., jeweler, Waveland, was b. in Tippecanoe Co In in
1840 and from 1864 till 1866 he served an apprenticeship at the
jeweler's trade, and soon after came to Waveland, where he
embarked in the jewelry business. He keep son hand an assortment
of watches, clocks and a full line of jewelry. He is a prominent
Mason also a member of the AOUW and Eastern Star. He is social
and courteous to his many customers, and is well adapted to his
business, making and retaining friends without an apparent
effort.

A.J. Miller, a former resident of Waveland, died at Ladoga at
3 o'clock last Thursday morning. Death resulted from chronic
kidney trouble. The funeral at 10 on Christmas morning was from
the home of his niece, Mrs. Henry McQuown. The body was buried
at Finley Chapel. Mr. Miller, who was known as "Jap," was born
near Battle Ground 63 years ago. He lived in Waveland 30 years
and followed the trade of a jeweler. He was living at the
Central House in Ladoga but took his meals at the home of Mrs.
McQuown. The day before his death he complained of "blind
staggers." Mr. McQuown stayed with him until bedtime. Later in
the night, he with Dr. Peacock were called, but were unable to
give any relief. He died in Mr. McQuown's arms while being
helped into bed. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Miller of
Chicago. He was insured in the AOUW for $2000. He was a
skillful mechanic, but his intemperate habits prevented his
business success and eventually caused his death.
