John Miles met up with a fierce red auto in front of John Milligan's
house on Friday evening. The horse went up in the air; he went over into
the ditch and Roy Miles on top of him. The breath was pretty well
knocked out of Mr. Miles and serious injury was feared. It turned out
that no bones were broken but he was confined to his bed for a day or
two and is still might sore. Roy was not hurt nor was the rig damaged.

John Miles got in another big car of $7 coal on Monday. It is
the advice of those who ought to know to go slow in stocking up
with high priced coal, as it is likely to be lower in price later
on. Still it isn't a bad idea to have a few tons on hand.

4:30 o'clock at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 20 days,
following a period of about two months' serious illness with
stomach trouble and complications. Mr. Miles was b. April 21,
1849 in the Blahinch community, the son of George and Paulina
Miles. He was the youngest of 12 children: 7 sisters and five
brothers, of whom Ben Miles of Marshall, Ind is the only one now
living. April 21, 1872, he was united in marriage to Mary E. English
who preceded him in death Nov 3, 1928. To them were born 12
children: 8 boys and four girls of whom two sons and two
daughters have passed on before. Uncle John, as he was most
familiarly known, has resided in and near Waveland all his life,
and was one of the most widely known men in the County. In his
younger days he followed ditching, cement work and brick laying
as a trade, but in later years he has been engaged in fur buying
and in the coal business. He was very accommodating and was
always willing to aid anyone in need. He will be missed by all
who knew him. Besides the brother mentioned above, he is survived
by 8 children: Mrs. Lulu Lewis of Indiana Harbor, Ind; Mrs. Anna
McGaughey of Palms, Calif; Roy of Plato, Mich; Lewis of Ft.
Montgomery, NY; Morris of Bristol, Nev; Frank of Tucson, Ax and
Nelson and harry of Waveland. 19 grandchildren; 3 great grands;
several nieces and nephews also survive him, together with
friends limited only by his acquaintance who weep with those
bereft, breathing a prayer for their comfort. May the Lord in His
love and tender mercy administer the balm for aching hearts which
the world cannot give, and draw them nearer unto His dear self.
