Quite a crowd assembled in a tent at the fair grounds last week to see the sparring match between Frank Keene of this city and “Shine” Russell of Alexandria. There were a couple of preliminary bouts by a set of fellows connected with the show and at 10 o’clock Keene & Russell hopped into the ring greeted by the plaudits of the push. The first two rounds were interesting and Keene held his own, greatly pleasing his friends. In the third round, however Russell evinced his superiority and in the 4th Keene was going like a slump in the market. When the round was concluded an officer stopped the sport, although six rounds had been advertised. The crowd had seen enough, however and the match was really closed so far as interest went with the fourth.
