Wililam S. Constancer, one of the oldest and most highly
respected citizens
of this city, died at Culver Union Hospital shortly after noon today of a
complication of diseases after an illness covering a period of a year and a
half. He was partially paralyzed when he died as he had suffered slight
strokes. He was b. in Hechigen-Hohenzollern, Germany Aug 19, 1830 and came
to this country when he was about 15 and took up his residence at Lafyaette
for about 4 years. He then returned to Germany and brought his mother to
this country. For a time he worked in Terre Haute and while there married
Catherin KRAMER at the home of her parent sin Marshall Ill in 1854. Soon
after that he moved to this city, where he followed his trae that of cooper
for many years. He at first worked for John SNyder, who had a place across
the Monon fill. Later he began work for John S. brown and for years was
mamager of the former's large stave yard which was located on North Green
Street. For several years, he has been unable to work on account of ill
health. His wife died 13 years ago, since, which tie he has been living with
his son, Ramey E. Kostanzer. 8 ch. were born to him, four of whom are dead.
Those who survive are Ramey and Wesley of this city, ANdrew of TH and Mrs.
Walter R. SPRINKLE of Los Angeles. One brother, Fred Kostanzer of
WHitewater, Wis survives. He was a brother of Andrew Constancer, who died
several years ago. Mr. Constancer was always a staunch Democrat and
believed firmly in the tenets of his party. For years, he was a member of
the First Methodist Church in this city. He was identified with two orders,
Odd Fellows & Red Men, both of this city. Mr. C. was a genial hearted man
who made many warm friends. His integrity was never questioned. THe
funeral will take place from the residence of Mr. & Mrs. Ramey E. Kostanzer on
Thursday afternoon.
