Obed Allen Irwin - Success has come to Obed Allen Irwin not by any caprice of fortune or fate, but because he has worked persistently and ardently for it along legitimate lines, and has left no stone unturned whereby he might advance himself, and at the same time he has sought to keep untarnished the good name of the family, being a man whom the people know they can trust, so as assistant cashier of the Bank of Linden, Montgomery County, Indiana. he has been a pronounced success, and has won the confidence and good will of the people, and is well liked by all who know him, being not only reliable but a gentleman of obliging and courteous disposition.
Mr. Irwin was born October 18, 1886, in Hardin County, Kentucky, and is a son of Christopher C. and Mary J. (CHRISTMAN) Irwin, both representing good old Southern families. In 1888, when two years old, our subject was brought by his parents to West Point, Tippecanoe County, Indiana, where the father purchased a farm of one hundred and fifteen acres, which he continued to operate successfully until 1910 when, having accumulated a competency, he retired from the active duties of life. Obed A. Irwin received a good education in the high school, and later attended a business college in Indianapolis, from which he was graduated in 1907. He then returned to the farm where he worked two summers, and in the winter months engaged in the lumber and grain business of the town of Battle Ground, Tippecanoe County, and thus got a good start and mastered each line of business. It was in 1909 that he began working at the above named town as manager for the Crabbs - Reynolds, Taylor Company. He gave them entire satisfaction in this responsible capacity, and they sent him in 1910 to Linden as manager of their business at that place.
In 1911 he became assistant cashier of the Bank of Linden, which position he held till January 1, 1913, to the eminent satisfaction of the stockholders and patrons, being an energetic, honest and courteous gentleman who has made a host of friends since locating in Linden. At that time he purchased stock in the bank, becoming a director and was elected to the office of vice-president. He resigned his position as assistant cashier and now has cof the grain elevator of the Crabbs-Reynolds, Taylor Company at Linden. Mr. Irwin was married on September 18, 1912 to Ruth CLEMENT, a daughter of L. J. Clement and wife, and a highly respected family of West Point, Indiana. Politically, Mr Irwin is a Democrat. He belongs to the Methodist Episcopal Church, and fraternally is a member of the Knights of Pythias, also the Masonic Order. --thanks Harry!!
