Herron - Richard D.

Richard Herron was born in Butler County, Ohio January 16, 1813 to Thomas and Agnes (Johnson) Herron.  He died 5 September 1885 in Carroll County, Indiana where he had practiced over 50 years.  

The youngest child of a large family, Thomas, an early pioneer of Ripley Township, Montgomery County along with brothers, James, John Thomas and Samuel were all leading citizens in the development of that township.  

Richard's first practice was at Millville, Ohio where he and his wife, Bathesia (another source Barthenia Hill) in 1858, began their family with: William, Mary, Frank Thomas , Martha and Alice.  Later they would add, Hannah, James, Walter and Gracie.  Dr. Herron moved back to Ripley Township about 1845, building a small cabin in the forest area there.

Later, he removed to Carroll County, Indiana where he practiced over a large territory up until the time of his death there of a cancer under his tongue which he had been afilcted with for many years.  

His friends, patients and family loved and respected him greatly.  75 carriages were in the funeral procession and the funeral at that point was the largest ever held in that part of Carroll County.  He and his wife are buried in Ball Hill Cemetery in Cutler, Indiana (east part north of the lane - row 8) buried with his wife.  -- kbz
