Ephraim M. Fine was born June 13, 1844 and died May 17, 1903. He graduated from Ohio Medical College in 1872, first locating at Sterling in Fountain County, then Steam Corner, and finally locating in Veedersburg. At one point, July 1893, he served as pension board examiner in Fountain County. His son, Harry Fine, was a prominent lawyer in Crawfordsville for several years. Dr Fine was buried in Wallace. This photo blessed the front cover of our tribute to the good doctors of Montgomery County, Indiana and Dr. Fine is included here as his practice, though mainly in Fountain County, also served the Western part of Montgomery.

The angel of death hovered over our city Sun. morning and at 1;45 o'clock took the spirit of Dr. Ephriam M. Fine to that home eternal prepared in the great beyond. The death of Dr. Fine was a sad mesage to his scores of friends throughout our county for none knew that he was ailing and but few were apprised of his serious condition until they heard of his death. in the fall of 1896 he suffered a slight paralytic stroke from which he soon recovered and in the fall of 1899 he suffered a second attack, which came near proving fatal. During last week he remarked to friends while aroun the city that he was not feeling well and on Fri. eve he felt a slight attack of the dreadful disease but seemed to recover Sat monring he went to the barn and fed his horse and in getting out of the mow could not use his right arm. He returned to the house and telling his good wife, she encouraged him and began rubbing his arm -it grew worse. She summond medical aid and in the afternoon he grew much better, talked freely and ate a hearty supper after completeing the meal he lay back in bed and fell asleep. They did not molest him for some time and when they tried to awaken him found that they could not. All the doctors in the city had called on him and they tried to arouse him without avail as he was unconscious and was sleeping the sleep of death. he never regained consciousness and at 1:45 o'clock surrounded by family and friends, passed away.
Dr. Fine was born near Wallace, ind, June 13th 1844. he was a son of Mr. Levi and Susanah fine, who came to this county from NC. In 1857 they moved to Iowa, returning in 1860 they settled near Urbana. A few months before he was 21 the doctor went to w ork for himself on afarm. Dr. DN Myer a boyhood companion persuaded him to sell his crop and they would go to work, secure an education and become professional men. He returned to this county went to common school for about 4 years, spending two tersms at the State Univ. and teaching one year to aid him in his work, all the time reading medical works and spending a season reading with Dr. Steele at Waveland. in 1870 he and Dr. Myers went to Rush Medical College, returning there in the fall of '71 stayiing until the great fire when they went to Ohio medical college at Cincinnati where he grad. in 1872. All the time that he was going to school and medical college, he made his way by honest toil and determination to win. He and Dr. Myer located in the old town of Chambersburg and in the fall of'72 he went to Steam Corner and continued practice ther euntil 1892 when he moved to this city, and as all know enjoyed the confidence and patronage of a large circle of the county's best people. he was marr. May 8,1 873 to Mary E. Myers, who has made him agood and noble wife. To their union two children were born, Harry, a prominent attorney at Crawfordsville and a little daughter who die din infancy. he was though a father, to hisstepson, Byrone E. Myers. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Marla Timpson of Long Island City, NY and Mrs. Kate Ferguson of Peoria, and one brother, David Fine of this community. Dr. Fine was a member of the Modern Woodmen and Foresters. The fun. serv. was conducted by Rev. OP Cooper, Tues monring at 8:30 o'clocka fter which the reamins were taken tot eh Lutheran church in jackson Twp where a service was held by Rev. vWhitman and qat it sonclusion the remains were laid to rest in the cem. nearby. The Pall bearers being Dr. Stout, Hender son and CC Myers of Covington; ND Myer of Decator, Ross, Shoaf, McNCeill and Petet of this city. In the death of Dr. Fine our city looses a good citizen and the medical professiona a valuable member. He was a careful, honest and honorable man positive in his convictions and firm and zealous in his every undertaking. There was no deceit in him, his ever act was open to the world and he accept criticism with equal favor to praise. He was truly self made and the success he achieved was wholly due to his person ability, energy ambition and untiring seal to have victory crown hisundertakings. The sorrow stricken widow, his sons and many other relatives have the sincere sympathy of everyone in this darkest hour of teier lives. -typed by kbz
