Born in Tennessee and back again for his death was the realm of Jonathan Fagg's life. According to census records, he was born in 1821. Rutherford County, Tennessee was his home county and he was the son of Charles and Winifred (Welborn) Fagg. His first wife was Lucy Simpson, with whom he had at least three children, one of whom, Mildred died in the same year as her mother (March, Mildred in October). In December of that year, he married Eleanor J. Wasson in Montgomery County and they had six more children. It is not known where Dr. Fagg received his medical training, assumedly in Tennessee. It is known that he, himself, taught school, as did a daughter, Susan. The family was active in the New Ross Christian Church. By 1880, the Faggs had moved to Monon, Indiana where he and his son, John had a drug store, but moved to Sardis, Henderson County, Tennesse not long afterwards. In later years, he suffered greatly from paralysis and deafness and died in 1891 in Henderson County, Tenessee. The 104th Illinois Infantry (Co H) was his Civil War unit. Although no stone or record says he is buried in the Scotts Hill Methodist Cemetery, Scotts Hill, Henderson County, Tennessee is where Elanor is buried and where they lived.
