Claude Frederick Ewoldt, born Detroit, Michigan Dec 4, 1880 son of John and Mary Miller Ewoldt. John born Detroit Michigan where he later was a retail shoe merchant. He died in 1884. His wife, Mary Miller Ewold who was born in Buffalo, NY died 1894.
Claude F. Ewoldt when 14 accompanied Peter Wulff, a farmer and his family to Neb. Mr. Ewoldt attended normal school in Neb and in 1899 went to Minn. In 1901, he enlisted in the Army, and served 3 years with the Coast Arty being stationed in Alaska, Wash and Calif. 1904 - student at Wabash College and in spring of 1905 became a bookeeper for the Crawfordsville Casket Company with which he since has been identified.
Sec-Treas of this company 1918. The CCC was founded in 1860 and was reorganized in 1894. The plant covers one fourth of a city block, the main building being a 3-story structure and the shop a two-story building. 65 persons are employed in the business which is the second oldest of its kind in Indiana. The firm specializes in the manufacture of wooden caskets, which are sold throughout the US. Mr. Ewoldt formerly served on the school board and city council. He is a Republican and a member of the BLue Lodge F &AM and Commandery (KT); Elks; Montgomery County C of C (past president); Montgomery Co Chapter, Citizens Historical Assn; Methodist Church. Mr. Ewoldt owns a farm in Madison Twp, where he and his wife reside. He is especially interested in the management of his farm and is a breeder of Hereford cattle.
On Feb 24, 1907, Mr. Ewold married Carrie A. Parker, daughter of WIlliam and Maraiah Stringer Parker, the latter of whom resides in Ladoga. William Parker, who was a carpenter, is deceased. Mrs. Ewoldt was born at Ladoga, Ind.
Children:
John William born July 9, 1910. He was a student at Culver Military Academy and Wabash College. He is a factory manager of the Crawfordsville Casket Company. He married Mildred Hatfield, daughter of Stanley and Grace Swango Hatfield.
Robert Frederick born May 20, 1913. Was a student of Purdue University and Wabash College. Employed by Crawfordsville Casket Co. Married Isabel Misner.
Charpes P, was born Dec 24, 1914. Graduated from Purdue in Civil Engineering and is employed by CCC. He married Glowren Besseette who was born in Conneaut, Ohio.
