Howard Mangus Everhart was born in Montgomery County on Sept. 4, 1887, one of ten children of John Tillman & Theresa Harris Everhart. The Everharts migrated to Pennsylvania, then the Shenandoah Valley, then finally to Davidson Co., N. C. In 1867 grandfather John left N. C. with his family & settled near Ladoga. Jan. 12, 1912 Howard married Mabel Bymaster. The had 3 children. They lived on a farm about 5 miles sw of Ladoga in what is known as Cornstalk Indian Country. On May 12, 1925 at the age of 37 Howard died from blood poisoning caused from an injury sustained while repairing the corn planter. Memories of Norma (one of Howard's daughters) say that Howard worked hard to save money to buy a farm. They had a new model T & the family was proud of it. It was black & had a little light outside on a black fender that could be switched on & off. Howard's wife, Mabel was left with 3 small children. Each child graduated from college. The children were Earl who married Helen Ping of Waynetown. Reva married Milton Peacock of Crawfordsville. She was an elementary school teacher. Norma married Bernard Mitchell. She retired from teaching. Mabel lived in Ladoga most of her life until her death.
