WILLIAM Frazier W. C. ENSMINGER

Source: Zach, Karen Bazzani.   Montgomery Medicine Men. ... Crawfordsville, Indiana: MCHS, 2002

The three listed doctors in the above source, Samuel Leonard, William Frazier and Horace Phillip Ensminger were all brothers, all doctors, sons of Joseph E. Ensminger who died at age 98 (born 14 Sept 1798 Harrisburg, PA died Crawfordsville, Indiana 5 March 1897 buried Odd Fellows Cemetery).  William was the oldest of the children.  Mother was Jane Boyd for William and Horace but Samuel Leonard's mother was Jane Kenner Fulton, Joseph's second wife.  Joseph fathered a total of 16 children.  He farmed in Hamilton Ohio about 10 years, some of the children having been born there, then came on to Montgomery County, Indiana (1826) where he received an original land grant.  Also, he did masonry work and is said to have built the first brick building inside of the Crawfordsville city limits.

William had three sons, Alonzo plus Ora and Oseo, who were twins and one daughter,  ODora..  This by two wives, Zerelda Carter McKee and Martha Lee.  He was born in Londonberry Township, Daupin County, Pennsylvania on the 20th of August 1820.  He was listed as a doctor in two census records and educator in others.  Mainly, it seems he was a "common school teacher," as was noted in one record.  At various times, he lived in Boone, Montgomery and Fountain Counties, and is according to his obituary buried in Covington.  In July of 1863, he is listed as W.F.W.C. Ensminger age 43 as a teacher born in Penn living in Center Township, Clinton County, so he evidently lived there for a short time, as well.
