CHARLES CALVIN EDSON

Dr. Edson's father, Isaac Comstock Edson was a doctor in Broome County, NY.  C.C. was born in Windsor June 17, 1843.  Although Isaac was also a doctor, he couldn't save his wife (Lydia) when she died at age 23, just two years after Charles was born.  There were two sisters, Annie and Eveline and an adopted brother, Justus Chase. His parents are buried in Windsor and a place awaited their son, Charles.  However, after the Civil War (where he enlisted in the 45th Pennsylvania Volunteers as a crack rifle shot in October 1861, discharged Dec 31, 1862 and reenlisted Jan 1, 1864, completing the war  on July 17, 1865 - within his service, he was wounded three times), he moved west to Illinois where he graduated from Bennett Medical College in Chicago.  He married Gertrude Drynan, who was 30 years younger. They had two daughters, Roberta and Myrtle.

Dr. Edson moved around a great deal, practicing in Illinois, Wisconsin and several counties in Indiana alone, including Montgomery, Fountain, Bartholomew, and Dearborn until his eyesight failed him and he retired from active service as a physician.  He heavily invested in properties in Crawfordsville.  An active member of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), he was also involved in the Masons; K of P; IOOF and Modern Woodmen.

With dimentia, he was taken to the Soldiers Home in Dayton, Ohio where he passed away the 19th of September, 1933 at age 90.  He is buried in Lawrenceburg, Indiana in the Greendale Cemetery, but his wife is not buried with him.
