Detchon - Irwin Agnew

Dr. Irwin A. DETCHON

A graduate of the School of Medicine in Philadelphia PA in 1876, Irwin Agnew Detchon practiced in Crawfordsville, mainly but also in Illinois for a short time.  The "happily ever after," marriage didn't work for him as his wife, Ella Washburn whom he married 8 November 1882 in Tippecanoe County died just a few months later on 16 March 1883 and is buried in the New Richmond Cemetery.  It took him a few years to fall again, but he did indeed marry  Anna Bell Lee, who mothered him a daughter (Esther) and a son (Lee Irwin Detchon).  Many reading this will remember Lee as a renowned artist in Montgomery County.

Irwin Agnew Detchon was named right, carrying his mother's maiden name for life, being their oldest of four sons and second of nine children born to Elliott and Martha Jane Agnew Detchon.  He was born on the 9th of December in 1850.

His main medical views were with Allopathic medicine and remedies.  He died of anemia and carcinoma of the colon on May 28, 1928 St. Vincent, Indianapolis.  He is buried with many family members in Oak Hill Cemetery, Crawfordsville. -- written by kbz
