BUSENBARK
Where was Busenbark? by Doris L. Page
Middletown, Ohio P 48
Before long, sometime during 1826, Redding & Delilah & their children packed a wagon with some household belongings & set out for the "new frontier," Indiana. James, his wife, Eliz and their 4 children accompanied them. They ended their trek at Crawfordsville, Indiana settling on land south of town. Wm. and his wife, Elizabeth with their children left Butler Co in Sept 1833 setting in Union Twp and it is thought his sister, Sarah and her husband, Foster W. Leigh, followed. The Busenbarks were not alone for other families from Butler county also traveled to the Montgomery County area. There were Nathaniel & Jerush Hoff and Samuel Gilliland who had come from Hunterdon Co NJ as a lad of 16. He and his wife, Polly Tousdale, also left in 1833. One of the young Busenbark women later recalled that when the travelers passed through Indianapolis only two general stores and a blacksmith shop made up the business district and Crawfordsville was simply a cluster of several houses.
