There are descrepencies as to the name of this physician, Christian P. or ... but according to the George Williams Pioneer Physicians... he was Chester G. Ballard, born in Wendell, Massachusetts, Jan 14, 1792 and died Perrysville, Indiana June 21, 1858. He was located in Brown Township (Waveland) during the state medical convention held at Indianapolis in 1849, being elected to membership June 7, 1849, one of 7 from Montgomery County to be elected. He is listed as Waveland's third doctor. In the 1850 census, Brown Township, he is listed as Christian P. Ballard, age 54, physician b. Massachusetts. His wife, Huldah (Simonds married 28 Jan 1824, first wife Susan Pierce) is 41 b. NY. They had the following children: James E. 24 a painter b. Ky; Elizabeth 18 Ohio; Granville M 17 student b. Ky; William Y15 Student b Ind; George B 11 Ind; Mary L 7 Indiana. His third wife was Esther Turner whom he married April 5, 1853. They moved to Perrysville, Indiana where he passed away 21 June 1858. Granville, his son remained in Waveland and studied painting, perhaps by the side of T.C. Steele or with T.C.. A Ballard researcher (mwsimonds@hotmail.com) felt Ballard died in Danville, Indiana but gut feeling tells me he is Chester Granville Ballard and died in Perrysville, Indiana. Most of his children and grandchildren spread out all over Illinois and Indiana.
