NEWTON BAKER
Little is known about Dr. Newton Baker. He was indeed here in Montgomery County, born in Ohio about 1828 in the 1850 census, having married his wife, Avice D. Miller in Hendricks County the 25h day of anuary in 1849. With a just-born son in the 1850 Montgomery census, they stayed here a few years but had moved on to Millville in Shasta, California by the birth of their daughter, Eliza in 1856. Oddly, Newton was listed as a farmer, but had $500 worth of personal property and $1000 of real esate, a nice, comfortable living. However, after this census, nothing else can be found about him, his wife or either of his two children. - kbz
