Schools with WORLD Exposure
Source: Crawfordsville Review 8 June 1915 p 1
The Montgomery County consolidated schools are to be shown off before the world. The nation is proud of the schools of Indiana. So much so that Charles Greathouse, State Superintendent of public instruction has been asked to send an exhibition of the consolidated school work of Indiana to the Panama-Pacific Fair at San Francisco. This county is one of the five counties in the state and national that will be included in the exhibition.
Supt. Karl C. James (Jones?) was in Indianapolis yesterday planning the display that is to be sent from here. Slides are to be made from photographs of the various consolidated schools which will be placed in an automatic stereopticon at the school exhibit at the fair. These pictures will not only include the views of the building but will show the pupils at work in the departments.
During this week the county superintendent will make a tour of the townships to secure work that has been done in the woodworking, domestic science and art departments of the schools. The object is to get pieces of work that will represent the work that is being done in the consolidated schools – work that is made with the hands. Supt. James desires those pupils that have any such work to let him know or else being it to his office in the court house. In addition to this county four other counties have been selected to help make up the exhibition. Marion and Randolph counties are included. Supt. James states that it is a great distinction for this county to be recognized as being one of the five counties that leads the nation in the matter of consolidated schools. ---kbz
