The Winter session of Miss Hovey’s school for girls will commence Dec 2, 1873, I the Fisher building. Tuition – six, eight or ten dollars, according to grade of study. No extra charge for German, French or Latin.

In her father's (Edmund Otis Hovey) biography (Bowen's 1913 History of Montgomery Co IN p 848-860) it states "Miss Mary Freeman Hovey, daughter of Professor Hovey was born at Crawfordsville, Sept 28, 1838 where she died June 4, 1897. She was a graduate of the Ohio Female College; for several years was a professor in the Kansas Agricultural College ; taught 3-4 years in the public schools in New Haven, Connecticut but was best known by her faithful work as a teacher of young ladies in her home at Crawfordsville, where, first and last she had under her care more than 250 pupils."
