Horace Mann School
This school started out life as Lincoln School, built primarily for blacks in the northern part of the city. As the black population shifted to the eastern part of Crawfordsville, a new Lincoln School was built on East Wabash Avenue. The abandoned 1881 Lincoln School Building was renovated and renamed Horace Mann School, then reopened for both blacks and whites. Horace Mann operated smoothly for many years and after newer schools were built, it was demolished in 1964.
