Darlington Academy 1885
The Darlington Academy was located on Academy Street, just west of Madison Street. Built in 1866, it was the first "graded" school in Franklin Township. This photo was taken in 1889. At this time there were just four teachers. . . George Welty, Frank Elston, Alice Johnston, and Jennie Kersey. The building was torn down in 1895, when the first high school was built.
