Part of the USGenWeb Project

If you have any records about burials in any of these cemeteries please consider submitting them for inclusion on these pages.

All the cemeteries in Martin Co. were mapped and researched by the WPA in the 1930's. The Martin County Historical Society has a blueprint of these cemeteries at the Martin Co. museum. Starting in 1963 the Historical Society started researching these cemeteries and recording all names and dates. All information was put into book form (3 volumes) and are sold  to anyone interested. We also recorded all cemeteries listed on Crane Navy Depot. Purchase your copy here. The above information furnished by Nancy Baker and The Martin County Historical Society.

Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane is predominantly located in Martin County, but small parts also extend into Greene and Lawrence counties. It was originally established in 1941 under the Bureau of Ordnance as the Naval Ammunition Depot for production, testing, and storage of ordnance under the first supplemental Defense Appropriation Act. The base is named after William M. Crane, a naval officer who served in the War of 1812. The base is the third largest naval installation in the world by geographic area and employs approximately 3,300 people.

The Catholic part of Spring Hill Cemetery was once called St. Louis Cemetery. This cemetery was near the Catholic Church and was moved to Spring Hill many years ago. The first sixteen rows and maybe more are all part of the St. Louis Cemetery. This part of the cemetery is on the first road into the cemetery, not where the Spring Hill monument is located. The stones are on the right & left of this road. Information by Nancy Baker and The Martin County Historical Society.
