I have been told, he was a buyer and shipper of stock to Cincinnati also a schoolteacher. Both buried St. Martin, Whitfield, IN. (Martha daughter of Henry Johnson b.1825 Berne, Switzerland d.1877 and Lucy (Kyle) who lived at Mt.Pleasant, Loogootee, IN.

John Allen was a son of:

JAMES VIRGIL RANEY b.4-4-1809 Washington Co, Ky. To Martin Co, IN age 9, in 1818. Both bur St Rose Cem, Mt Pleasant, Perry Twn, Martin Co, IN d.9-21-1881. (He may have been a Colonel. Mex War? and Recruiter in Civil War? Looking for information on this) (Family legend says he built the Fred Raney house in 1840? also called the John Raney farm? All bricks made by hand.) Son of Jeremiah Raney and Mary Joan (Sheehan Moore), Indiana pioneers from Kentucky in 1818.
