Doris L. Garringer, age 96, of Shoals, Indiana,
passed away at the Loogootee Health and Rehabilitation Center
on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at 7:19 a.m.
She was born April 10, 1921, in Terre Haute, Indiana,
to the late Alonzo and Ella (Earl) Denny. She married Don Garringer in 1953,
and he preceded her in death on February 22, 1993.
Doris attended the Shoals Nazarene
Church where she taught
Sunday School and presented flannelgraph Bible stories to children in several
churches.
Survivors include one son, Leon Watts, of Clearwater, Florida;
five grandchildren, Anthony Johnson, Arthur Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Stacy
Johnson, and Lisa Johnson; one stepsister, Jean Holtsclaw; a special friend,
Louise Lindley, of Shoals; and several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth
Johnson; two sisters, Pauline Sanders and Mamie Tow; five brothers, Wilford
Denny, Alonzo Denny, Leon Denny, Bert Denny, and Jesse
Denny; two stepsisters, Dorthy Tuszynski and Alma Holtsclaw; and one
stepbrother, Harold Hopkins.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday,
April 11th, at the Queen-Lee Chape of the Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes,
in Shoals. Reverend Jerry Sanders will officiate the service.
Burial will be made in the Spring Hill
Cemetery, in Shoals.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of
the service on Wednesday.
John Richard Clements, age 84, of Loogootee,
Indiana, passed away at 6:15 p.m. on
Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at Scenic
Hills Care
Center, in Ferdinand.
He was born June 5, 1933, in Loogootee, Indiana,
to the late Chet and Doris (Doyle) Clements.
Richard was a United States Army Veteran and served overseas
during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 120 and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He worked at
Midwest Printing for several years as a lithographer. He was an avid Loogootee
Lions and Indiana
University basketball
fan, and enjoyed watching IndyCar racing.
Survivors include his children, John Clements and wife
Connie, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Kathy Burton, of Jasper;
grandchildren, Jill James and Kwame, Cassie Clements, Brian and Evan Howell,
Brent Burton and wife Brandy, and Travis Burton; great-grandchildren, Amare,
Jasmine, and Brooklyn James.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth
(Jones) Clements; and son-in-law, Tony Burton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Very
Reverend J. Kenneth Walker at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4th, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, in Loogootee.
Burial will follow in St. John Catholic
Cemetery.
Visitation was set for Tuesday, April 3rd, from 4:00 p.m. to
8:00 p.m., at the Blake Funeral Home, in Loogootee.

Margaret Sue King, age 82, of Huron, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, March 25,
2018, at her residence. She had been on kidney dialysis for almost 15 years.
She was born on August 16, 1935, in Martin County,
the daughter of Stephen Linza and Hazel Della (Montre) Pridemore. She married
Phillip Eugene King on January 9, 1954, and he preceded her in death on
February 10, 2018.
Margaret was a homemaker. She was a member of the Huron
WTK Club, and a graduate of Shoals
High School in 1953. Her
grandbabies were her life.
Survivors include her children, Carroll King and wife Peggy,
of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Marlene Sanders and husband
Dave, Delema Moffatt and husband David, Dennis King and wife Teresa, and Marvin
Scott King and wife Sandy, all of Huron; 13 grandchildren; 29
great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Shipman and husband Luther, Jr., of
French Lick.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, son, Darrell
King; great-grandson, Grant Cole King; and siblings, Paul Pridemore, Mary
Strange, Wilma George, and Hubert Pridemore.
A funeral service was held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March
27th, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center,
with Pastor Mark Fugate and Dirk Sears officiating.
A graveside service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday,
March 28th, at Port
William Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. until the service on
Tuesday at the funeral home.
Johnnie Zelvin Mason, age 74, of Shoals, passed away on Sunday,
April 1, 2018, in Evansville,
Indiana.
He was born April 9, 1943, to John Nelson and Delema May
(Sisk) Mason in Linton, Indiana. He married Cathy A. Hill on June 1,
1969.
John was an Army Veteran and served in the states and
overseas in Korea and Santa Domingo in the Dominican Republic, in the 111th
M.P. 3rd Company of the U.S. Army from April 1965 through April 1967. He
attended Linton Stockton Schools and retired from Crane Ammunition Depot in
2001 with 30 years of service as an ordnance worker, warehouse, and field storage
worker.
He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren,
the all-time joy and passion of his life. Family was very important to him. He
loved reminiscing about his childhood and the colorful people who shaped his
life growing up in West Linton.
Watching NASCAR and reading were Johnnie’s favorite
pastimes. He was a wonderful husband and father. A true and honest friend who
will be forever loved and missed by all who kn-ew him.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy; two daughters, Zoe
Breeden and husband Chris, of Freedom, Indiana; Heather Mejia, of Washington;
and one son, Benjamin C. Mason, of Burns City; nine grandchildren, Paul Breeden
and wife Stephanie, Greg Breeden and wife Hayley, Sarah Breeden, Katora Harris,
Kassidy Harris, Gabriella Mejia, Samantha Mejia, Shawna Mason, and Haley Mason;
three great-grandsons; four brothers, Bill Joe Mason and wife Earlena, and Gary
Ray Mason and wife Debbie, all of Linton; George L. Mason, of Tyler, Texas;
Carl F. “Pug” Mason, of Evansville; one aunt, Mildren Mason, of Linton; and
several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents,
two brothers, Gregg N. “Dode” Mason and Ronnie E. Mason; one sister in infancy,
Edna Jane; and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday,
April 5th, at 1:00 p.m. at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel, in
Linton. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the
service at the funeral home.
Burial will be made in the Scotland Cemetery.

Sharon Lawson, age 58, of Jasper, passed away at her residence
on Monday, April 2, 2018, at 3:30 a.m.
She was born on October 13, 1959, to Alyous and Johnnie (Clark) Spencer.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with friends
and family.
Survivors include her mother, Johnnie Spencer; her husband,
John Mehringer; daughter Crystal Fultz and John Brett, daughter Heather
Trentlage and husband Mark; stepson Kris Lawson, eight grandchildren, Hope,
Nathan, Kadence, Kaylee, Emma, Maddie, Abigail, and Andrew; and four brothers,
Joe Spencer, Robert Spencer, James Spencer, and Alyous Spencer.

Vondale Hopkins, age 82, of Loogootee,
Indiana, passed away at 11:32 a.m. CST, on
Friday, March 23, 2018, at St. Vincent
Hospital, in Evansville, Indiana.
She was born on September 3, 1935, in Martin County,
Indiana, to the late Raymond and Alice
(Street) Ziegler.
Vondale was a member of the Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church.
She babysat children for over 20 years and was proud of each child that she
cared for. She loved her family, flowers, yard work, but her favorite pastime
was sitting on her porch with her husband, Jim.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, James L. Hopkins,
of Loogootee; daughters, Alice Stempf and husband Thomas, of Loogootee, and
Rose Popp and husband Jeff, of Jasper; grandchildren, Katie Stempf, John Stempf
and wife Britny, and Matthew Popp and fiance Lauren Sergesketter;
great-grandchildren, Lilly Moffatt, Luke Bruner, and Millie Popp; one sister,
Kay Sanders and husband Jerry, of Shoals; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by an infant son and
daughter; and siblings, Clara Denny, Juke Ziegler, and Bob Ziegler.
A funeral service was conducted at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, March
26th, at the Blake Funeral Home, in Loogootee.
Burial followed in the Truelove Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the
service at the funeral home on Monday.

Donald Lewis French, age 76, of Shoals, Indiana, passed away at 9:30 a.m. on Monday,
March 26, 2018, peacefully at the home of his daughter. He was surrounded by
family and his dog Gracie.
He was born on May 21, 1941, to Lewis Edward and Edna Ruth (Catt) French, in Martin County.
He married Mildred Goodrid-French Rice and they had three children, Mary Katie
Davis and husband Randall; Rosemarie Murray and husband Larry, of Wheatland;
and the late David French.
He graduated from Shoals
High School in 1960,
spent his time in the woods as a logger, and following his retirement enjoyed
working in his garden and being with his animals.
He is also survived by his wife Janet Sue French; three sisters, Diane
French-Jones and husband Donald, Brenda French Rodgers and husband Paul, and
Mary French Holt; nine grandchildren; multiple step-grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; and multiple step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, and two infant children.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31st, at
the Queen-Lee Chapel of the Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, in Shoals, with
Richard Tallman and Mike French officiating.
Burial will be in the Pleasant
Valley Cemetery.

Bryan “Scott” Melvin, age 55, of Shoals, passed away at his
residence at 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018. He was born on July 24,
1962, in Washington,
to Robert Eugene Melvin and Lois June (Taylor) Conklin. He married Misty
Cundiff and she survives.
He attended Shoals Community Schools, previously worked at
Crane CAAA., US Gypsum and Kimball International, attended Dover Hill Christian
Union Church and enjoyed playing his guitar.
He is survived by his wife, Misty Melvin of Shoals; his
mother, Lois Conklin and husband Robert “Doc” of Loogootee; one son, Brandon
Scott Melvin of Shoals; a brother, Robert Mark Conklin and wife Maria of
Borden; sisters, Lynn Renee Fish and husband Mark of Bedford and Melissa Ann
Conklin of Loogootee.
He is preceded in death by his father and one brother,
Randall Eugene Melvin.
Visitation will be held at the Dover Hill Christian Church
at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018. A funeral service will be at the church
at 1:00 p.m. No graveside services will be held at this time.

Shirley Ann Allbright, age 81, of Shoals, Indiana, passed away
at 3:10 a.m., on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care
Center, in Jasper, Indiana.
She was born on December 5, 1936, in Martin County, Indiana,
to the late Nelson “Fred” and Mabel (Henry) Chastain.
She was a member of the Shoals Holiness
Church. She enjoyed working
in her yard and on her flowers. She loved to make Sunday dinners for her family
and cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Shirley’s family will miss her amazing pancakes and her persimmon pudding. She
was very calming and always had nice words.
Survivors include her children, Steve Allbright and wife
Linda, of Bedford, Indiana;
Brenda Lowry and Mike Allbright and wife Teresa, both of Shoals; 8
grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Imogene Parkhurst, of Deerfield Beach, Florida;
and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray “Morris”
Allbright; infant daughter, Sherri Mae Allbright; siblings, Edmond Chastain,
Louise Moffitt, Glen Chastain and Dorothy Kearby; and son-in-law, Keith Lowry.

Ernest Howard Survance, age 71, of Mitchell, died at 6:33 p.m.
on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the I.U.
Health Bloomington
Hospital.
He was born April 15, 1946, in Shoals, to Cleo and Bernice (Montgomery) Survance. He married Carol Hicks
on May 14, 1966, and she survives.
Howard worked at U.S. Gypsum and later retired from Carpenter Body Works. He
was a member of Faith
Mission Church.
Howard enjoyed tractors and traveling and spending time with his family, especially
his grandchildren, as well as mowing his lawn.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Mitchell; three sons, Daniel Survance and
wife, Diane, of Mitchell, Jeffrey Survance, of Bedford, and Matthew Howard
Survance, of Mitchell; two grandsons, Cameron and Patrick Survance, both of
Mitchell; three sisters, Louise Holloway and husband Dale, of Pennsylvania,
Hazel Fuhrman, of Shoals, and Doris Russell, of Mitchell; a brother, Roger
Survance, of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James Survance, and sisters,
Wilma Pride, Lois Brashear, and Wanda Albright.

Margaret Rose (Borho) Mathies, age 80, of Loogootee,
Indiana, passed away at 2:15 a.m., on
Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Parkview
Village.
She was born on October 19, 1937, in Spencer County, Indiana, to the late Alois
and Anna (Fischer) Borho.
On January 9, 1960, Margaret married Delmar Mathies in St. Meinrad Archabbey
Church. She attended St. Meinrad Grade School and then attended Ferdinand Academy, an all-girls boarding school.
After graduation she worked as a Nursing Assistant for the Summer. She then went
to Indianapolis and became a Practical Nurse
upon which she was employed at Jasper
Hospital until she left
the medical field to stay home and raise her children.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist
Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Delmar Mathies, of Loogootee; children, David
Mathies, of Indianapolis; Kevin Mathies, of Loogootee; Kathy Miller and husband
Mike, of Cannelton; Diane Mariutto and fiance Bill Nelson, of Indianapolis;

Betty Louise Abel, age 93, of Shoals, Indiana,
passed away at 12:45 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at the Loogootee Nursing
Center, in Loogootee.
She was born July 26, 1924, in Bedford, Indiana,
to the late Leo and Grace (Hackler) Smithers. She married William Edward Abel
and he passed away May 25, 1966.
Betty graduated in 1943 from Marshall
Township (Needmore
High School) in Lawrence
County, Indiana, retired from
Crane N.A.D. as an ordinance worker, previously worked at the Loogootee
Textile, and was a member of the Shoals
Holiness Church.
She is survived by one son, Philip Abel and wife Yvonne, of Plano, Texas;
granddaughter, Tonja Renee Abel, of Dallas, Texas; grandson, Kyle Abel and wife Nancy, of McKinney, Texas;
great-grandson Sterling Philip Abel; and one brother, Glenn Smithers, of Indianapolis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three
brothers, Howard Smithers, Opal Smithers, and Thomas Smithers.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday,
March 26th, at the Queen-Lee Chapel of the Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes,

Mrs. Simmons passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the
Woods Haven Nursing Home.
She was the daughter of the late James and Clara Willett.
Mary Beth was an educator and worked for the Grant High
School System for almost 40 years, before she retired in the Spring of 2015,
touching the lives of many students. Her loves were the time spent with her
grandchildren, teaching, fishing, sewing, mowing, and cleaning. She was a
lifelong member of Big
Creek Baptist
Church, in Pollock. She
was very proud to have raised three children to have followed in her footsteps
to become educators. Mary Beth will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved
her.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Paul T. Simmons,
who was the son of the late George and Laura Simmons, of Shoals; three

Robert E. “Bob” Green, age 79, of Shoals, Indiana,
and formerly of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away at 7:30 a.m., on
Monday, March 19, 2018, at his residence.
He was born on September 4, 1938, in Kokomo, to James Winifred and Marie
(Shackelford) Green. He married Wilma E. McAninch on January 18, 1958, in Kokomo, at the Evangelical
United Brethren
Church.
Mr. Green attended Kokomo Schools, retired from Kokomo
Springs, with 27 1/2 years of service as a grinder, was a former member of the Indian Heights
Community Church
in Kokomo, and attended Weisbach Community
Church, in Shoals. He and
his wife Wilma traveled for 20 years, cooking in church camps across the United States.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Green, of Shoals; one
daughter, Ellen Hampton and husband Gregory, of Shoals; two sons, Robert W.
Green, of Loogootee, and James Green and wife Tressa, of Peru; six
grandchildren, Michelle Franklin and husband Daniel, Jon Hampton and wife
Melissa, Michael Hampton, Ce’Nedra Butcher and husb. and Matthew, Alaric Green
and Garrett Green; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Green, of Kokomo; and several nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, his
parents, and a stepfather, Marcus Deardorff.

2:00 p.m. at the Queen-Lee Chapel, in Shoals, of the Thorne-George Family

Robert W. Norris, age 94, of Loogootee,
Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 15,
2018, at 9:38 p.m. at Union
Hospital.
He was born September 14, 1923, in Loogootee, Indiana,
to Marie (Norris) Dawes.
Bob was a United States Army Veteran and served overseas
during World War II. He retired from U.S.G. after 30 years of employment. He
was a member of the Loogootee V.F.W. Post #9395 and the St. John Evangelist
Catholic Church.
He loved gardening, golfing, fishing, and was an avid NASCAR
fan. He loved sports, but spending time with his family was most important to
him.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary (McGuire)
Norris, of Loogootee; daughters, Donna Watson and husband Samuel, of Olympia,
Washington; and Kathy Mathias and husband Charlie, of Petersburg;
grandchildren, Collin Padgett, Logan Padgett and wife Erica, Gabriel Watson,
Daniel Watson, Stacy Sickbert and husband Seth, and Ryan Mathias and wife
Holly; six great-grandchildren; one nephew, Harold “Butch” England;
brother-in-law, John McGuire; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie (Norris) Dawes
and one sister, Mary Lela England.

Janice Nadine (Holt) Holmes, age 62, of Bedford, Indiana,
passed away at 2:30 p.m., on Friday, March 16, 2018, at her home.
She was born on December 11, 1955, in Bedford, the daughter
of Donald R. Holt and Frances P. (Mundy) Holt Bosell.
Janice was a Team Leader in the Deli at JayC Plus, in Bedford.
She enjoyed crafting, reading, and spending time with her

brother, Monty Holt, of Shoals; her beloved pets, Minnie and Molly; and several

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather,
Henry Bosell; and one nephew, Tony Wheat.
Jan’s wishes were to be cremated without a service.

her memory to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Walter Tedrow, age 85, of Loogootee, Indiana, passed away on
Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center, in Jasper,
Indiana.
He was born in Rutherford
Township December 21,
1932, to the late Ivan and Lola (Parsons) Tedrow.
Walter was a United States Army Veteran and served during
the Korean conflict from 1953 to 1955. He was a member of the American Legion,
Masonic Lodge, White River Lodge #332 F. & A.M.; and a former Cub Scouts
leader. He was a member of the Loogootee Christian Church. Walter retired as an
Explosive Operator Foreman from CAAA after 33 years of employment. He married
Galelah (Arvin) Tedrow on March 8, 1953.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Galelah
Tedrow, of Loogootee; his daughter, Shanan Bradley and husband Keith, of
Martinsville; grandchildren, Tina Carmer, Veronica Tedrow, Jolene Munoz and
husband Marcos; great-grandchildren, Elijah Carmer and wife Breanna, Landon,
Cameron, Dakota, and Alexis Carmer, Antonio and Joseph Vega, Jordan Ja’nay and
Jolee Rosalia Munoz; his brother, Dale Tedrow and wife Alice, of French Lick;
sister-in-law, Goldie Tedrow; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Joseph Wayne
Tedrow; his siblings, Vernon Tedrow, Edward Tedrow and wife Helen, Robert
Tedrow, Milford Tedrow, George Raymond Tedrow, Dean Tedrow, Lueverdia Chattin
and husband Walter, and Ruth Neideffer and husband Herald.
A funeral service was conducted on Saturday, March 17th, at
11:00 a.m. at the Blake Funeral Home, in Loogootee.
Burial followed in the Goodwill Cemetery,
in Loogootee.
Visitation was held on Friday, March 16th, from 4:00 p.m.
until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
Michael Wayne “Mike” Acker, age 81, of Loogootee, Indiana,
passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 3:18 a.m., at his residence.
He was born March 12, 1937, in Evansville, Indiana,
to the late William Lester Acker, Sr. and Leoma (Leomer) Elizabeth Chandler.
Mike attended Francis
Joseph Reitz
High School and graduated
on June 9, 1955. After High School he graduated from Evansville College
August 7, 1959, and received a BA degree in Physics. After college he enrolled
in the Air Force ROTC on March 24, 1960, and was commissioned as a 2nd
Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and was on active duty for eight
years and served in the Vietnam War. He then went to work as a Quality Control
Engineer at what is now known as Naval
Surface Warfa-re
Center (NSWC), Crane.
Mike’s work in the military and NSWC Crane totaled 43 years, at which time he
retired on May 1, 2003.
During free time Mike enjoyed golfing, solving advanced
college math problems, as well as talking about American History, including the
day, month, and year which the event took place.
In 1973, Mike, who already had three young children, married
Dorothy Emma O’Brien-Hart. They were married at St. John Catholic Church. He
welcomed not only Dorothy, but her nine children as well. Mike has eleven
children, James Acker, Debora Acker Wagler and husband Ted, David Acker and
wife Laura, Diane Hart Dawson and husband Bob, David Hart, Marie Hart Reed and
husband Grant, Patricia Hart Shinness, James Hart and wife Shawna, Michael
Hart, Thomas Hart, Marianne Hart and Elizabeth; He has 19 grandchildren,
Kirsten, Zachary, Joshua, Jennifer, Jenae, Jesse, Stevan, Miranda, Melissa,
Kathryn, Anna, Ashley, Beth, Phillip, Prestin, Paul B., Erica, Conrad and
Brittany; 18 great-grandchildren, Daniel, Stella, Willow, Gabrielle, Ava,
Hazel, Emma, Aidan, Declan, Ethan, Norah, Arlo, Beckham, Taryn, Aria, Hart,
Emmalynn, and Jordan.
He is also survived by his brother, James Robert Acker, Sr.;
sister-in-law, Ethel Mae Acker; Aunt Rachael Belle Chandler Settle and her
husband Charles Albert Settle, Sr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Paul
Kenneth Hart; and one brother, William Lester Acker, Jr.

Larry E. Archer, age 75, of Shoals, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 15,
2018, at his residence.
He was born on December 24, 1942, in Orange County, Indiana,
to George Archer and Edna (Combs) Nolan.
Larry married Elizabeth Jane Pendley on June 29, 1963, and
she survives.
Larry was a 1962 graduate of Dubois
High School, served in the National
Guard, and attended the Nazarene Church, in Shoals, and Natchez Church.
He retired from U.S. Gypsum, in Shoals, as a shift foreman after 35 years of
service.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, all kinds of
sports, being outdoors, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Other survivors include one son, Michael Archer and wife
Marsha, of Shoals; three daughters, Dana Archer, of West Baden Springs; Gina
Mundy and husband Jim, and Georgia Purlee, both of Shoals; one brother, Benny
Nolan, of Dubois; two sisters, Lana Wells and husband David, and Judy Tolbert,
both of Shoals; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Rhea
Dawn Stidham; and two sisters, Mona Joe Smith and Marie Morgan.
His funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on
Tuesday, March 20th, at the Brosmer-Kemple Chapel, in French Lick.
Pastor Kevin Quinn will officiate the service.
Burial will follow in the Anderson Cemetery,
near Shoals.
Visitation was set from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday,

Alaphair (Harner) Moffatt, age 46, of Jasper, Indiana, passed
away on Sunday, March 11, 2018, at 6:35 a.m. at the Memorial Hospital and
Healthcare Center, in Jasper.
She was a former resident of Shoals.
Alaphair was born on May 26, 1971, in Washington, Indiana,
to Kelly Harner and Janet (Barger) Harner. She married Ray Moffatt on October
17, 2015, in Loogootee.
She graduated High School in Neurenburg Germany,
obtained her B.S. Degree from Vincennes
University, and attended
Dover Hill Christian Union.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Moffatt; mother, Janet Harner; six
children, Joel Duden, James Duden, Joshua Duden, Ashlyn Burns, David Martinez
and Justin Moffatt; two sisters, Katherine Pennington and husband Scott, of
Shoals, and Kellie Harner, of San Antonio, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her father, Kelly, and a daughter, Krystal
Duden.
Visitation will be held on Thursday March 15th, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the
Queen-Lee Chapel of the Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, in Shoals.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Michael Joe Breeden, age 64, of Loogootee, Indiana, passed away
on Saturday, March 10, 2018, while doing what he enjoyed as much as his family,
hunting.
He was born May 16, 1953, in Bloomington,
Indiana, to William Joe Breeden
and the late Wilma (Abram) Breeden.
Mike married Bobbi (Summers) Breeden on June 14, 1986.
He retired from Duke Energy in May 2012 after 39 years of faithful employment.
In 2013 Mike started working part-time for PCA, a contractor for Duke Energy.
He was a member for 39 years with the IBEW Local 1393, Sons of the American
Legion, Knights of Columbus, and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He
was an outdoorsman in every sense. He loved hu-nting and hunted whatever was in
season.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Bobbi (Summers) Breeden, of Loogootee;
two sons, Jay Breeden and wife Leila, of Martinsville, and Will Breeden, of
Loogootee; three grandchildren, Trinity McNeely, Maddox and Ryker Breeden; his
father, William Joe Breeden, of Solsberry; siblings, Steve Breeden and wife
Jeanne, of Eminence; Billy Breeden and wife Kathy, of Bloomington; and Lisa
Stevens and husband Tom, of Ellettsville; many nieces, nephews, and
great-nieces and great-nephews.

Thelma (Gillespie) Yarnell.
Jeanne retired from Crane as an Electronic Technician after 30 plus years of
employment. She was a member of the Loogootee Christian Church. She loved
gardening, crocheting, knitting, and was a great seamstress.

and husband John, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Max Wagoner and wife Sherri, of

Lester E. Truelove, age 81, of Shoals, Indiana, passed away at his residence on
Sunday, March 4, 2018, at 6:58 p.m.
He was born on June 29, 1936, in Rutherford
Township in Martin County,
to Woodrow and Catherine (Burress) Truelove. He married Dianne Gee on August 4,
1995, and she survives.
Mr. Truelove graduated from Loogootee
High School, farmed, and
retired from National Gypsum Company, Shoals Plant, with 43 years of service.
Survivors include his wife Dianne; two daughters, Joyce Elaine Druba and
husband John, of Madison; and Cathy Hall, of Sellersburg; two sons, Thomas
Allan Truelove, of Shoals; and John David Truelove, of Loogootee; seven

Marie J. Elliott, age 92, of Loogootee,
Indiana, passed away at 3:15 a.m., on Tuesday,
February 27, 2018, at the Loogootee Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born June 7, 1925, in Angola,
New York, to
the late Paul and Carmella (Palomezo) LoPresto.
Marie was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church and the St. Martin Altar
Society. She was a long-time volunteer at St. Vincent De Paul, in Loogootee.
She retired from Crane and was an accomplished artist.
Survivors include her siblings, Jeanette Mula and Virginia Ark, both of Silver
Creek, New York; Paul LoPresto, of Fredonia, New York; grandson, Paul Gutierrez
and wife Michelle, of Omaha, Nebraska; and two great-grandchildren, Adam and Josephine
Gutierrez; sister-in-law, Donna Van Winkle, of Loogootee; brohers-in-law, Doyle
Elliott and Mike Elliott, both of Loogootee; and Tony Elliott, of Indianapolis.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl J. Elliott, who passed away

David retired in 1998 from the National Gypsum Company after 33 years of

Johnnie Zelvin Mason, age 74, of Shoals, passed away on Sunday,
April 1, 2018, in Evansville,
Indiana.
He was born April 9, 1943, to John Nelson and Delema May
(Sisk) Mason in Linton, Indiana. He married Cathy A. Hill on June 1,
1969.
John was an Army Veteran and served in the states and
overseas in Korea and Santa Domingo in the Dominican Republic, in the 111th
M.P. 3rd Company of the U.S. Army from April 1965 through April 1967. He
attended Linton Stockton Schools and retired from Crane Ammunition Depot in
2001 with 30 years of service as an ordnance worker, warehouse, and field
storage worker.
He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren,
the all-time joy and passion of his life. Family was very important to him. He
loved reminiscing about his childhood and the colorful people who shaped his
life growing up in West Linton.
Watching NASCAR and reading were Johnnie’s favorite
pastimes. He was a wonderful husband and father. A true and honest friend who
will be forever loved and missed by all who kn-ew him.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy; two daughters, Zoe
Breeden and husband Chris, of Freedom, Indiana; Heather Mejia, of Washington;
and one son, Benjamin C. Mason, of Burns City; nine grandchildren, Paul Breeden

On Tuesday December 16, 2014, Dorothy Emma O’Brien Hart Acker
went to heaven. She passed peacefully at the Hospice House in Bloomington,
Indiana surrounded by family, born on August
5, 1923 to the late Michael and Mary Rose (Moore) O’Brien. She married Paul Bernard Hart
in 1951. Together they had nine children Marianne, Thomas, Michael, James,
Patricia Shinness, Marie Reed, Paul K. and twins David and Diane Hart-Dawson.
In 1967, Paul Bernard Hart passed away followed by her son Paul K. in 1995. She
married Michael Wayne Acker in 1973 and welcomed three children into her life;
David, Deborah Wagler, and James. She was greeted at Heaven’s gate by her
parents, her siblings Francis, Thomas, Joseph, Lawrence, Mary, and Harry as
well as her first husband and son. She is survived by her husband, eleven
children and their spouses, nineteen grandchildren; Brittany, Conrad, Erica,
Paul B, Prestin, Phillip, Beth, Ashley, Anna, Katie, Melissa, Miranda, Stevan,
Jesse, Jenae, Jennifer, Joshua, Zachary, and Kirsten. Fifteen great
grandchildren; Jordan, Emmalynn, Hart, Aria, Taryn, Ethan, Declan, Aidan, Emma,
Hazel, Ava, Gabrielle, Willow, Stella, Daniel and her beloved Shih Tzu, Peanut.
She was first a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Dorothy
loved being with family and friends, playing cards, shopping, dancing, crafts
and collecting angels. She enjoyed visiting homebound. Mrs. Acker retired from Loogootee Elementary School. She owned and managed
a farm her entire life.

Robert E. Ader, 55, of Loogootee, passed away at 6:00 p.m.
Thursday, January 19, 2017 at his home.
He was born September 7, 1961 in Hammond,
Indiana to Judy (Vargo) Ader and
the late Richard G. Ader.
Robert enjoyed spending time with his family and his granddaughter. He liked to
fish and arrow head hunt.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard G. Ader.
Robert is survived by his children, Rebecca Ader of Loogootee and Michael Ader
of Loogootee, currently serving at Ft. Myer, VA; granddaughter, Zoe Mudd;
mother, Judy Ader of Loogootee; brothers, Phil (Joanna) Ader, Brian (Lisa) Ader,
both of Loogootee, Paul (Deborah) Ader of Sullivan, Jim (Donna) Ader and John
(companion, Courtney) Ader, both of Loogootee; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at
Blake Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date.

Jesse Allen, 43, of Loogootee, passed away at 8:37 a.m. July
10, 2016 at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born August 27, 1972 in Grissom Air Force Base, Indiana to Vicky
(Bennett) Allen and the late Gregory Allen.
Jesse was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St.
John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
He adored his daughter and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He
loved sports of all kinds including, the St. Louis Cardinals, Indianapolis
Colts, Indiana University and LA Lakers.
Jesse was preceded in death by his father, Gregory Allen; paternal
grandparents, Bob (Dorothy) Allen; aunts, Mary “Sissy” Woolard and Mary Jo
Bradley; cousin, Lindsay Allen.
He is survived by his daughter, Katlin Brooke Allen; mother, Vicky Allen of
Loogootee; siblings, Robert (Heather) Allen of Loogootee, Rebecca Allen of
Vincennes and Sara (T.J.) Gulia of San Diego, CA; nephews, Conner Hedrick,
Jaxon Jewell and Tommy Gulia; maternal grandparents, Orin (Pauline) Bennett of

Carolyn Thompson Arvin Age 72 of Loogootee, Indiana
Died at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Loogootee Nursing Center in
Loogootee, Indiana.
Death was due to cancer instead of her real wish which was to go while riding
on a boat in Small World at Disneyworld.
She was born on December 6, 1938 in Daviess County Indiana

February 28, 1994.
She was a 1956 graduate of St. John’s High School in Loogootee and a 1959 graduate of
Nazareth School of Nursing at St. Joseph Infirmary in Louisville, Kentucky.
She had worked at both Daviess County Hospital
in Washington and Memorial
Hospital in Jasper as well as the
offices of Francis Gootee, MD, James Poirier, MD, Robert Woodall, MD, the Loogootee Nursing Center
and Preferred Home Health Care.
Carolyn loved babies and had worked as a nanny in the Indianapolis
area as well as in Duxbury, Massachusetts,
and most recently in Jasper, Indiana
for Drs. Nick and Kristin Werne.
She was a resident of Loogootee for over sixty-five years where she was very active
in church, community and school affairs. She also served as a Brownie Scout
leader and was a former member of the Delta Tau Chapter of Tri Kappa. For many
years she wrote, directed, produced and choreographed the Lions Club Laugh-IN.
In 2007 she was presented with the Distinguished Alumni Award by the Loogootee
Schools Alumni Association.
Carolyn initiated the Ecumenical Choir, along with her good friend Carolyn
Strange Arvin and served as it organist throughout it twenty-year existence.
She has also been an organist at St. John’s
Catholic Church and St. John’s
Lutheran Church
in Loogootee. She was actively involved in the American Cancer Society’s Relay
for Life, serving as publicity coordinator its first eight years in Martin County
and then as a volunteer for the Caring Friends sponsorship.
Her other interest including writing, which included many articles for area
newspapers as well as a weekly column in the 70’ and 80’s entitled The
Ketchup’s in the Bathroom. Too she enjoyed scrap booking and vacationing in Disneyworld.
She was actively involved with her lottery club, the LSWC, and is survived by
her “Little Sisters”, Gloria Hart, Rita Schnarr and Rosie Billings, keeping in
touch with many friends via e-mail and maintaining an e-mail prayer line.
Carolyn moved to Carmel, Indiana in 2006 to be nearer to members of
her family. She remained a life-long member of St. John’s
Catholic Church in Loogootee and while living in Carmel attended St. John Vianney Catholic
Church in Fishers where she served as an organist.
She is survived by:

suddenly at 5:45 p.m. on December 13, 2015 at University of Louisville Hospital
in Louisville, Kentucky.
She was born January 28, 1974 in Washington,

Dianne Bradley.
Kara was employed at Toy’s Auto Parts and Judy Burch Catering. She was a member
of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Her passion was her children. She loved going to sporting events, especially
baseball and softball games. She also enjoyed spending time with family and
friends.
Kara was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence (Red) and Dianne Bradley;
grandparents, Charles W. Wagoner and Leonard and Pauline Arvin; father-in-law,
Adrian Lee Arvin.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Scott Arvin of Loogootee; children,

Vincent and Theresa (Gootee) Ash.
Marjorie had worked for Reliance Shirt Factory and the Odon Poultry House. She
cooked for the Sisters of Providence in Joliet,
IL. She then focused her life as
a successful wife, mother and homemaker.
Marjorie babysat for many families over the years and influenced many children
during her babysitting years. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She brought
her family and community together by a good meal and a glass of tea. Marjorie
loved sports, especially the Barr-Reeve Vikings and St. Louis Cardinals. She
was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, where she was a member of the St.
Martin Rosary Altar Society. She was an honored recipient of the Brute Award
which was awarded by the Bishop of the Evansville Diocese.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990, Joseph C. Arvin; son, Larry
Arvin; parents, John Vincent and Theresa (Gootee) Ash; siblings, Ernestine

Randy Dale “Boggie” Axe age 59 of Winslow, Indiana died Thursday, October 31, 2013 at his home from a lengthy illness.

Boggie enjoyed mowing yards, doing odd jobs for the elderly, playing bingo and

She was born on February 10, 1928 in Pike County
to William H. and Blanch (Groub) Gillie.
Ann married Leon Baker on March 25, 1946 and enjoyed 71
years together, they resided in Parkview Village Christian Care in Odon, Indiana.
She was a member of Loogootee Christian Church. Ann was a
secretary and retired from Prairie Farms Dairy.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents William and Blanch
Gillie, her siblings Armon, and Frances Gillie, and daughter Jeanne Baker.
She is survived by her husband Leon Baker, her son Van
(Lynn) Baker of Loogootee, grandsons; Nathan (Maidie) Baker of Bradenton, FL,
Todd (Blair) Baker of Loogootee, great- grandchildren; Jared Baker, Samantha

Indiana died at 5:20 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Elmwood at the Shawhan in

She was born May 7, 1918 in Daviess County Indiana

She married Lowell Baker in October of 1937 and they were married for 54 years
before his death on May 27, 1992.
Ina was an active member of St.
John’s Lutheran Church in Loogootee and also Women of
the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. In past years she served as
organist, choir director, Sunday school teacher, and council member of the church.
She also served as President of WELCA and board member of the Evansville
Cluster.
She was a member of the Martin County Council on Aging, which was successful in
starting Senior Centers in the six county area. She served as the first
director of the Shoals and Loogootee
Centers.
Ina worked with homemakers in Martin County as Food and Nutrition Assistant under the
direction of the County Extension Office and Purdue University.
She was a member of the American Cancer Society, Right to Life and the Loogootee
Women’s Club.
She is survived by:

She loved playing cards and bingo. She was an avid animal lover and enjoyed
spending time with her grandchildren.

a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at her home.
She was born September 27, 1943 in Akron,
Ohio to the late Otis and

Donna enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and grandchildren. She was
a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered at the Loogootee Senior
Citizen Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Barrow, who passed away
September 2, 2015; parents, Otis and Willette (Daugherty) Speed; brother, Bill
Speed.
Donna is survived by her children, Harold (Connie) Flanagan of Loogootee, Pam
Chrisman of Loogootee and Teresa (Brian) Voegerl of Huntingburg; 8

passed away at 3:18 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Brownsburg Meadows.
She was born March 8, 1920 in Shoals, Indiana
to the late Merle and Nellie (Head) Hitt.
Agnes was a member of the Loogootee Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Bledsoe; parents, Merle and
Nellie (Head) Hitt; three brothers and three sisters.
Agnes is survived by her daughter, Sue (J.D.) Faris of Indianapolis;
granddaughters, Kathi (Stan) Lower and Susan (Bruce) Caveney; four
great-grandchildren, Kendra (Greg) Gilbertson, Michael (Rachel) Lower, Allie

Richard was a United States Army Veteran and served overseas

He worked at Midwest Printing for several years as a
lithographer. He was an avid Loogootee Lions and Indiana University
basketball fan and enjoyed watching IndyCar racing.

Harker,
age 93, of Shoals, Indiana, died in the presence of family on Monday, January
26, 2015 at 5:20 a.m. at the Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in
Jasper, Indiana. He was born on November 24, 1921 to the late John David and
Elizabeth (Kreitzer) Harker at their home in South Center
Township, Martin County,
Indiana.
Bernard attended Davis School and then graduated from Shoals High School
in 1939. He took a short course in how to wire a house and then wired their
home for electrical service when REMC supplied power to the rural community
later that year. Later he served for 39 years as a Director for Daviess-Martin
REMC where he held positions as secretary, treasurer and president. He also
served as a Statewide Director for REMC.
He was a lifelong farmer in Center Township of Martin County where he grew
corn, soybeans, wheat, barley, rye and hay. He also raised cattle, hogs and
chickens. Conservation was very important to him, so he worked closely with
Fred Woods to implement conservation practices on the family farm such as
terraces, drop spillways, grass waterways and no-till. He served over 25 years
on the Martin County Soil and Water Conservation Board and with the Farm
Service Agency and the Four Rivers RC&D.
Bernard was a life time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Loogootee,
Indiana where he served on the Church Council at various times as secretary,
treasurer and president. He also served there as Sunday School Superintendent.
He was a former Shoals School Board member and was a founding member of the
West Boggs Park Board. From his teen years, Bernard enjoyed being a Cincinnati
Red’s fan and attended many games over the years.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Melba (Walton) Harker, of Shoals; six
children, Mike Harker and wife Kathy of Shoals, Debbie Hawkins and husband Bill
of Shoals, Juanita Cox and husband Jim of West Baden, Indiana, Karl Harker and
wife Kathy of Auburn, Alabama, Karla Wyrostek and husband Ed of Flagstaff,
Arizona, and Tom Harker and wife Lynette of Shoals; one sister, Glendy Wilmoth
of Parma, Ohio; two sister-in-laws, Barbara Harker of Shoals and Olive Pruett
and husband Russell of Shoals; 17 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 13 great
grandchildren; 9 step-great grandchildren; and 2 step-great great
grandchildren. Two brothers, Dewey and Herman Harker; three sisters, Ella
Boegeman, Alberta Harker and Ann Schilling; two brother-in-laws, Albert
Boegeman and Robert Wilmoth; one sister-in-law, Ruth Harker, and 1
step-grandchild have preceded him in death.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29th, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00
p.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church

He was born November 27th, 1936, in Owensburg to Dennie B. Fields and Lillian
B. (Thomas) Fields.
He attended Owensburg and Oolitic schools with the class of 1955.
He married Anna M. Van Slyke on May 23, 1958, in Williams, Indiana, and she survives.
He was a retired stone mason for more than 50 years. He was also a former
Jackson Township Trustee and Advisory Board Member. He attended Owensburg Baptist Church.
Surviving with his wife are their children, Toby (Marilyn) Fields of Mitchell,
Tammy (Gary) Summitt of Bloomfield, and Troy (Sandy)

was born on June 10, 1921 in Martin County, Indiana to John William (Bill)
Erwin and Laura Belle (Purkhiser) Ervin. She married Charles Edward Hawkins on October 10, 1941, and he preceded her in
death on May 27, 1985. She was a homemaker, and a co-owner and bookkeeper with
her husband for Standard Oil Company. She was a member of the St. Mary of the
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shoals and the Altar Society. She
belonged to the Gold Star Mothers. She also was a member of the Jug Rox
Grandmothers Club, American Legion Post #61 Ladies Auxiliary, Shoals Senior
Citizens, Martin County Geneology Society and the Shoals Eagles Aries #2442. Lydia
and Charles had two sons. They both preceded her in death. Larry E. Hawkins who lost his
life in a plane crash in the Alaskan Gulf in 1963 and son Terry who passed away
on March 21, 1990. She is survived by one granddaughter Aundie (Tony) Dant and
one grandson Patrick (Sandy Sherfick) Hawkins.
Four great grandchildren: Addison, Caleb, Collin and Aaron Dant. She was very
proud of her family. Also surviving are one sister Helen (Clyde)

Donald C. Johnson, 78, of Shoals, passed away on September 28, 2011 at 3:40 a.m. at the Loogootee Nursing Center.
He was born on December 31, 1932 in Shoals, Indiana to Harley and Ellen (Tabor) Cox, and
after the death of his mother he was adopted by Charles L. and Laura (Gibbs) Johnson. He married Bonita "Bonnie" Kerns on
July 15, 1952 in French Lick, Indiana, and she survives. Donald graduated from Shoals High School.
He then served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from
N.A.D. Crane and was later self-employed as an carpenter. Other survivors
include a daughter Donna Sue Johnson of Shoals.

Stevie Ray Kelsey was killed instantly in a hunting accident on Friday, November 18 on his
farm in Grassy Creek. He was born July 21, 1947 to Martha (Dove) and Paul Kelsey in Odon,
Indiana. His father and brother
Kenny preceded him in death. He married Cheryl Bough in 1965 who also preceded
him in death October 28, 2011. He married Lani Sorrells in 1983. He is survived
by his mother, sister Martha Mae (Virgil) Roark, brother Terry (Grace E.) Kelsey, all of Odon; wife Lani (Sorrells) Kelsey of Shoals; four children, daughters Dana King
and Shelly Cleek of Mitchell, sons Aaron (Jamie) Kelsey

nephew and three nieces; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Richard Duane Landers was born on November 8, 1931 and passed

William "Bill" James
Lee, 83, passed away peacefully at 5:09 a.m. at his
residence on July 23, 2012 with his wife Emily and daughter Diana by his side.
Bill was born on February 2, 1929 in Lost
River Township
to Walter Lee and Edna (Ragsdale) Lee Wolf. He married Emily B. Lindley on October 13,
1950 at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Bedford.
He will be deeply missed by his family, including, wife Emily of Shoals

Bill was very active within the Shoals Community. Mr. Lee
was a 57 year member of the White River Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. He was a
former prescient committeeman for Southeast

served on the advisory board of Lost
River Township,
and was a proud member for 59 years of Shoals American Legion Post #61, and
V.F.W. Post #8589. He served his country from 1950-1952 in the United States
Army during the Korean War in the 101st Signal Battalion as a pole lineman
behind enemy lines. He retired from National Gypsum Company after 30 years of
service, and also worked for the Indiana Department of Transportation and Crane
Ammunition Depot following his retirement. He was a 1948 graduate of Shoals High
School and a member of Waggoner's Chapel.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 4-8:00 p.m. at the
Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted
at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. A funeral service will be

Stanley C. Hodges, 77, of Loogootee,
IN, passed away Friday, February
20, 2015.
He was born February 9, 1938 in Louisville, KY,
to the late Rollin and Barbara Rose (Brosmer) Hodges.
Stan was a graduate of Dubois High School.
He was a United States Army Veteran and served his country for four years. He
retired from Crane after 35 years of employment. Stan was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, American Legion
Post 120 and 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending
time with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, playing golf, but his pride and
joy was his great grandson, Kohen Robbins.
Stan is survived by his wife, Karin (Schubert) Hodges;
daughters, Barbara (David) Brosmer of Evansville and Sandy (Mickey) Hercamp of
Seymour; son, Stanley (Angie) Hodges of Loogootee; grandchildren, Jared

Marlin E. Kelso, 84 years old of Alfordsville,
Indiana, entered into eternal rest with Christ
on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Loogootee
Nursing Center.
Marlin was born on December 11, 1932 in Daviess County
Indiana to Elma and Winona (Baker) Kelso. He was preceded in death by his
first wife, Sarah Marie, on February 23, 1995. He married Donna (Tedrow)
on August 18, 1995 and she survives.
Marlin is survived by his wife, Donna, his two sons Alan
(Terina) Kelso of Florida and Brian (Barbara) Kelso, also of Florida;
four grandchildren Aaron (Jill) Kelso, Renee (Shaun) Aunchman, Caleb (Tanja)
Kelso and Josh (Cristen) Kelso and four great grandchildren, all of Florida. He is also
survived by his stepsons David (Bonda) Tedrow of Indianapolis, Mark (Donna)
Tedrow of Jasper and Barry (Lori) Tedrow of Alfordsville, along with six of
grandchildren, Nathan (Naomi) Tedrow, Katelen Tedrow, Stephanie (Dan) Beavin,
Wilson Alexander (Karissa) Tedrow, Jarrett Tedrow, and Logan Tedrow; one great
granddaughter and one great granddaughter due to arrive in January.
Marlin served in the United States Army, worked as an
insurance agent with Allstate, and enjoyed flying his private plane doing
“touch and goes” on Saturday mornings. In his later years, Marlin worked
in the Security Department as a Guard at the Naval Support Activity Crane.
He was also the Manager of the Alfordsville Water Utilities and was on
the Board of Trustees for the Southeast Daviess Fire Protection District.
He served as a Trustee during a time of expansion and elevation of
services of the District. Marlin was a devoted Christian, a loving
husband, and dedicated father. We will all miss his wonderful smile,
sense of humor, and love for life.

Anna Mae (Swartzentruber) Knepp, 88, of Montgomery, IN,
passed away at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2016 at her home.
She was born November 7, 1927 in Daviess
County, Indiana to
the late Louis and Catherine (Swartz) Swartzentruber.
Anna Mae married Harry Knepp October 25, 1947 and he survives.
She was a member of Berea
Mennonite Church.
She loved gardening and cooking, but most of all, she loved people and her
family.
Anna Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Catherine (Swartz)
Swartzentruber; siblings, Mary (Amos) Miller, Elmer (Alta) Swartzentruber and
Martha Raber.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Harry Knepp of Montgomery;

Tess Elizabeth Lagree, 1, of Loogootee, was received into
Heaven at 1:35 p.m. on June 28, 2015 after a brief illness.
She was born November 21, 2013 in Washington,

Tess loved life especially when she was with her big brother, Isaac. Her
favorite activities included swinging, reading, talking, singing, and
brightening everyone’s day. The family will miss her immensely, but are excited
that she will always be with them and interceding for them as their personal
patron saint.

Mary Evelyn Osborne “Nan” Lankford, age 76 of Scottsburg, Indiana,
joined her husband Randle in the eternal light of God on Friday, February 9,
2018.
Nan was born in Loogootee, Indiana
and was a graduate of St. John
Catholic High
School. She started working at the age of 14 at
the Arrow Café and was a car hop at night at Jerry’s Drive-In. She moved to Indianapolis in 1961 and worked from 1961-1965 for the
Democratic Party at the Indianapolis
State Capital
Building. Nan married the love of her life, Randle Lankford on
October 9, 1965, a partnership that lasted 48 years. He preceded her on May 1,
2014.
Nan moved back to Loogootee in October of
1967, back to working at the Arrow Café. She then took an office job with
National Gypsum in 1968 until 1977. She was manager of the Loogootee Dairy
Queen from 1977 until 1985. In 1985 she went to work with Dr. Steve Downey
Chiropractic. Her last position was working as a cashier at the St. Vincent
DePaul Store from 2005 until retirement in 2016. Nan
loved to gamble, playing cards with her card club girls and spend time at the
Casinos. Her favorite music artist was Elvis Presley. Nan
was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. In addition to her late
husband, Nan was preceded in death by her
parents, Lowell and Mildred Alice McKinney Osborne; and her sister, Carolyn Osborne.
Nan is survived by her daughters, Deidre Paige Shafer (Kelly) and Randee Sewell
(Philip); grandchildren, Cody Shafer (Adrian) and Tristan Shafer (fiancé,
Kailey); brothers, Tony Osborne (Susie) and Stevie Osborne (Susan); sister,
Peggy Downey (Roger); and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 10am-1pm, on Saturday, February 17, 2018 with a
celebration of Nan’s life to follow

Donald S. Lannan passed away on March 14, 2017 at his residence
surrounded by family.
He was born on June 23, 1924 in Loogootee, Indiana
to Leo and Nora (Brown) Lannan.
Donald was a member of St.
John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loogootee, a former commander of the
VFW, member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He entered the
United States Army in March of 1943 and became a Private First Class 779th Anti
Aircraft Artillery Battalion Battery D. He served in WWll and was awarded the
American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star,
Good Conduct Medal, and Victory Medal World War II. He was formally the owner
of Don’s Cleaners of Shoals, IN, and then went to work at NSA Crane as a boiler
operations specialist.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Nora
Lannan, his siblings; Martha Seger, Rosemary Bonifer, Pearl Atkins, Glenn
Lannan, James Edward Lannan, Harold Lannan, George Lannan, Robert Lannan,
Eugene Lannan, and Virgil Lannan.
He is survived by
his wife of 70 years Norma Lannan (Baker). His children; Ronald Lannan of
Franklin, IN, Rhonda Laakso (John) of Montello, WI, Michael Lannan (Mary) of
Gurnee, IL, his grandchildren; Ryan Lannan (Susy), Jarrod Lannan (Weijun), Romy

James F. Lannan, 74, of Loogootee, passed away at 1:04 p.m.

He was born November 21, 1942 in Daviess County, Indiana
to the late Joseph L. and Mary Leola (Melton) Lannan.
Jim was a United States Army National Guard Veteran and
served his country from 1961-1967. He was a lifelong farmer with Lannan
Farms and loved each day on the farm.
He was a member of the former St. Martin Catholic Church and
currently a member of St. John the Evangelist
Catholic Church. He was member of the St. Martin Men’s Club and the American
Legion Post 120.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph J. and Mary

James Albert Larkin, age 87of Loogootee, Indiana died at 11:56 a.m. on Monday, March 14, 2011 at his home.
He was born on August 2, 1923 in Loogootee, Indiana

He was married on October 10, 1953 to Lenora (Davis) Larkin and she survives.
He was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Loogootee where he was actively
involved. He was a Lector and a member of the church choir, St. John’s prayer group, and served as a
Eucharistic Minister to shut-ins.
He was a 4th degree knight in the Loogootee Knights of Columbus and he was the
recipient of the Brute Society Award from the diocese of Evansville.
Jim was a WWII Army veteran serving in China,
Burma and India during
the war as a medic. He was a member of the Loogootee American Legion Post #
120.
He attended St. John’s grade school and
graduated from Loogootee High School and Indiana University
where he earned a BS degree in business and was also a member of the IU
Marching 100.
He owned and operated the Loogootee Red and White Grocery Store. Jim’s faith,
family and friends were truly his treasures and he will be very much missed by
many.

Carroll Marvin Ledgerwood, 80, of Washington,
IN, passed away at 9:46 a.m. on Friday,
October 23, 2015, at Daviess
Community Hospital.
He was born October 10, 1935 in Loogootee,
IN to the late Arrin Frank and
Lou Vella (Parsons) Ledgerwood.
Carroll was a graduate of Loogootee
High School. He then
served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. After his
military service he worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Cincinnati.
He enjoyed painting scenery and still life. He played in bands at area nursing
homes.
Carroll was preceded in death by his parents, Arrin Frank and Lou Vella
(Parsons) Ledgerwood; siblings, Arnold Ledgerwood, Blanche Jeselnik, Herman
Ledgerwood, Ruth Axsom, Virginia Daugherty and Vance Ledgerwood.
He is survived by his brother, Terry (Dianna) Ledgerwood of Columbia, MO.;

She was born July 12, 1926 in Daviess
County, Indiana to
the late Ralph C. and Flossie (Winklepleck) Thompson.
Mary graduated from Odon
High School in 1945.
While living in Odon, she was a member of the Odon Evangelical
United Brethren
Church where she served
as Sunday School secretary for many years. Prior to leaving the Odon community
in 1965 when she got married, she worked for the Odon Journal.
She married Vance C. Ledgerwood on April 11, 1965. He passed away on February
13, 2009.
Mary was a 50 year member of the Odon Eastern Star Chapter #341 and a charter
member and 50 year plus member of the Odon Rebekah Lodge #319.
She was a member of the Loogootee
United Methodist
Church after she got
married. She taught Sunday School and worked with Vacation Bible
School for over 16 years.
She and Vance were the financial secretaries at the church from January 1991
until July 2007. She was active as a 4-H leader and with the Boy Scout program.
Since 1985, she has been a news correspondent for the Dubois County Herald.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Vance C. Ledgerwood; parents, Ralph
C. and Flossie (Winklepleck) Thompson.
She is survived by her children, Craig (Tisa) Ledgerwood of Coppell, Texas and
Janet (Tom) Duex of Spring Grove, Illinois; three grandchildren, Tommy, Emily,
and Timmy Duex; three step-grandchildren, Eddie, Evan, and Eric Provencio;

Mervin Leroy Lengacher, 83, of Montgomery, passed away at 4:24 p.m.
Thursday, April 28, 2016 at his residence, surrounded by his family and loved
ones.
He was born November 19, 1932 to the late Joseph and Barbara (Stoll) Lengacher.
Leroy was a member of Zion
Amish Mennonite
Church. He was an
ordained minister and was ordained at Zion Amish Mennonite Church.
He was a lifelong farmer and carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Barbara (Stoll) Lengacher;
1st wife, Orpha Lengacher; brothers, Joe Lengacher Jr. and Edwin Lengacher;
brother-in-law, John Marner.
Leroy is survived by his 2nd wife of 25 years, Delilah (Wagler) Lengacher of
Montgomery; children, Sue (Cliff) Nisly of Partridge, KS., Ruth Ann (Rick)
Stoll of Indianapolis, Mike Lengacher of Indianapolis, Mark (Angie) Lengacher

Geneive Alice “Jenny” Lents, 102, of Loogootee passed away
Sunday evening, December 4, 2016 just one month shy of her 103rd birthday. She
was born on January 6, 1914 to Herman and Agnes Carrico.
A resident of Loogootee and member of St. John
the Evangelist Catholic Church, Jenny worked for many years as a seamstress.
Throughout her adult life, she participated in many volunteer activities
including organizing St. John’s funeral dinners, nursing home visits and work
with the St. Vincent de Paul. She was a member of St.
John’s Daughters of Isabel and St. Martin’s
Alter Society. In 1996 she was awarded the Brute’ Award for outstanding fellowship
and service in the Diocese of Evansville.
She was preceded in death by husband, Paul Brown of Loogootee (1912-1958) with
whom she adopted her daughter, Katherine. She was also preceded in death by
husband, Louis Lents of Whitfield (1905-1978) whom she married in 1964, father
to Marilyn (Dennis) Arvin and the late Don (Suzanne) Lents and the late Vernon
Lents.
She was also preceded in death by her parents Herman and Agnes (Padget) Carrico
as well as her much loved brothers and sisters Katherine Spaulding, Ethyl
Doyle, Mary Baker, Kenneth Carrico, Gerald Carrico, Margaret Strange, Evelyn
Carrico, Ernest Carrico and Lavern Truelove all of whom remained in her heart
and her thoughts throughout her days.
She is survived by daughter, Katherine Brown of New Mexico, nephew and p.o.a.,
Mark Strange of Montgomery and daughter-in-law, Suzanne Lents of Loogootee. She
is also survived by her step daughter, Marilyn Arvin and brother-in-law, Ray
Truelove as well as numerous nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.
She will be remembered fondly for her service, her card playing and her wit.
A rosary will be said at 4:30 pm on Friday, December 9, 2016 at the Blake
Funeral Home in Loogootee with visitation to follow from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at
10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic
Church in Loogootee. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Alexander Matthew Leonhard, 22, of Bloomington, formerly of Loogootee, passed
away at 10:08 a.m. Sunday, February 19, 2017.
He was born September 25, 1994 in Brunswick, Maine
to Jeff and Kelly (Sphon) Leonhard.
Alex received an Associate’s Degree in psychology from
Vincennes University
and was currently working on his Bachelor Degree at Indiana University.
He loved reading, video games, but most of all, he loved his
puppy, Sheigh. He previously worked at Dairy Queen in Loogootee and was
currently working at Papa John’s in Bloomington.
Alex was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Albert and Alberta
Sphon; paternal grandmother, Phyllis Leonhard; uncle, Rick Leonhard.
He is survived by his parents, Jeff and Kelly (Sphon) Leonhard of Loogootee;
siblings, Tiffany Leonhard of Fishers, Stephen Leonhard of Jasper, and Kylie
Leonhard of Bloomington; paternal grandfather,
Richard Leonhard of Kinsman, Ohio;
nephew, Albert DeHem; niece, Willow Leonhard; numerous aunts, uncles and
cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2017
at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.

A.V Grogan, 92, of Washington, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at his
residence in Washington, Indiana.
He was born on January 31, 1925 in Sumner, Illinois
to the late Carl and Anna (Bartman) Grogan.
A.V was a United States Navy Veteran where he proudly
served as a First - Class Seaman in the South Pacific, in WWII from 1942 –
1945. He married Patricia Jane (Berry)
Grogan on April 4, 1947 and she preceded him in death on March 21, 1981.
A.V was a member of the VFW in Flora,
Illinois, and was an Engineer for
the B & O Railroad.
On October 24, 1984, A.V married Mary Faye Shepherd. A.V
and Mary Faye were active members of the Washington Church of Christ throughout
their married life. Mary Faye preceded A.V in death on May 31, 2016. A.V enjoyed
the outdoors and loved to garden. He was known for sharing his fruits and
vegetables with his friends, family, and local community.
A.V is survived by his children; Steve (Cyndi) Grogan of
Mountain View, CA, Deborah Grogan of Santa Cruz, CA, John (Rita) Grogan of
Gilroy, CA, step- daughters; Melba (Bill) Dawson of Washington, IN, Rita (Ken)
Eide of Petersburg, Sheila (Mark) Petty of Washington, his sister Roberta
George, his brother Benny Grogan, and many grandchildren, great- grandchildren,
nieces, and nephews.
Cremation was chosen according to A.V’s wishes.

Mary E. Fitzgerald, 78, of Washington,
IN, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015
at Daviess Community
Hospital in Washington, IN.
She was born in Veale Township Daviess
County to the late Arthur and Ethel
(Adams) Evans on October 26, 1936 in Washington,
IN. She married Kenny (Spike)
Fitzgerald on March 15, 1957 and he survives.
Mary was a member of Mt Olivet C.P. Church in Washington. She graduated from Washington High School and was employed by
Kixmiller Accounting for several years and later as a self-employed accountant.
She was a member of Country Ladies Homemakers Club, Past Matron of Glendale
Eastern Star, WRVAA, and was a Girl Scout Leader.
She is survived by two daughters, Jane and husband Jeff Armes of Patoka, Indiana and Pam
and husband Steve Bartlett of Washington,
Indiana. Grandchildren,
Morgan-Gammons of Patoka, Marcus and Marcie Armes of Patoka, and Hannah and
Earl Emerick of Lafayette, Indiana. There are three
great-grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at
Bethel United Methodist South Campus in Washington.
Burial will follow in the Church
Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, April 24, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at
Bethel United Methodist South Campus and Saturday one hour prior to service
time at the Church.

Margarete O. (Lang) Franklin, 87, passed peacefully from
this life Saturday morning surrounded by family at the home
of her daughter, Ingrid Mielke in Indianapolis.
She was born on January 13, 1930,
in Nurmberg, Germany.
In 1952, she met the love of her life,
Joseph D. Franklin, who was serving in the U.S. Army. She then came
to America on January 13,
1954 and on January 23, 1954 married Joe in the Loogootee Methodist
Church. They resided
in Loogootee until June of 2007 when they moved to Indianapolis to
live with their daughter, Ingrid, due to
illness. They were married for 56 years until his death on May 15th,
2010.
In 1957 Margarete was proud to
become a Naturalized U.S. Citizen.
During her retirement she
and Joe, along with Poncho (their faithful family dog), enjoyed being
“Winter Texans” for 15 years, traveling to San Benito, Texas during the
winter months and regularly visiting Progresso, Mexico, with friends and
family.
She was a member of St.
John’s Lutheran Church, the quilting club of American RV Park in San Benito, TX
and various camping clubs. She enjoyed her children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her hobbies were sewing,
knitting and crocheting. She worked at the Loogootee Textile for many
years and retired from UniRoyal in Washington.
She is survived by one son,;
Adolf Oerter (wife Marita) of Nurnberg, Germany, and two
daughters, Ingrid Mielke (husband Jerry) of Indianapolis, and Angela Franklin
(life partner Monica Abeyta) of San Antonio,
TX; ten grandchildren, Alex Oerter, Christian Oerter (deceased),
Barbara (Oerter) Schambeck, Michael Oerter, Tonya Bullock (life
partner Mary Ann Osborne), Meredith Raben (husband Brad), Sarah McKinley (husband
Chris), Madison Franklin-Abeyta, Joshua Franklin-Abeyta and McKenzie
Franklin-Abeyta; eight great-grandchildren; Franziska Oerter, Felix
Oerter, Lena Sofie Schambeck, Emilian Schambeck, Hannah Denise Bullock,
Nathan Joseph Raben, Margaret Sophia “Maggie” Raben and Carter William
Raben; sisters, Karola Engelhardt and Ingrid Thyen.
She is preceded in death by her
parents, Martin Karl and Margarete Sofie; three sisters,
Hannelore Lang, Hella Bredel and Else Leidig.
Visitation will be held at St. John’s Lutheran
Church in Loogootee
from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 13th, 2017. Memorial services will
commence at 3:00 p.m., followed by graveside rites at Goodwill Cemetery.

Dr. James H. Grace, 64, of Loogootee, passed
peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior at home surrounded by loved
ones on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 12:25 p.m.
Dr. Grace was born
April 29, 1953 in Evansville,
Indiana to the late Jesse and
Rachel (Littlepage) Grace. On December 28, 1977, he married Renee Jackson and
she survives.
He was a graduate of South Hopkins High School,
Murray State
University, University of Louisville
Kent School of Social Work and Bethany Theological Seminary, Dothan Alabama
with a PhD in Christian Counseling. He retired from the Pennyroyal
Center in Hopkinsville, Kentucky
in 2008. He was active in the State of Kentucky
working with the formation of DUI laws and on the testing board for those
seeking credentials as a Chemical Dependency Counselor. He was a responder with
the Crisis Response International and served in Iraq as a humanitarian worker in
the Syrian and Mosul Refuge Crisis. He enjoyed sky diving and had a black belt
in karate.
Dr. Grace was a
United States Army veteran and served during the Vietnam era.
The most important
thing to James was his relationship with Jesus Christ. He was always eager to
share how his life was transformed and loved teaching others how to live a
deeper life. He was a member of the Loogootee
United Methodist
Church and the Men’s Bible Study
Fellowship in Bloomington.
James is survived by
his wife of 39 years, Renee Grace; children, Gabriel Grace of Nashville, TN
and Joy Grace of Loogootee; grandsons, Jacob Harrison and Phoenix Ringer;
faithful canine companions, Harley and Tripp. He leaves behind many in the
family of God that have been touched by his life and work.
He was preceded in
death by his parents, a brother, Isaac Moore and sister, Wanda Bergman.
A Celebration of Life
will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Loogootee United Methodist
Church. A private burial
will be held at Goodwill
Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be
held Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at

Eileen Green, 90, of Loogootee,
Indiana passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016
at 6:30 p.m at Loogootee Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Eileen was born on August 24, 1926 in Evansville,
Indiana to Pete and Gletis
(Patterson) Strawn. She was one of seven children, six girls and one boy. She
loved being part of a large family. She married Harold Green who preceded her
in death just 3 months prior to their 70th wedding anniversary.
Eileen and Harold worked hard all of their lives. They had numerous businesses
from owning motels, a ladies dress shop, to a preschool. Her favorite business
was the skating rink where she listened to squealing kids and pounding music.
She enjoyed watching and talking to the children. Eileen was a full partner in
each business. Harold was the daring one while she was the practical one. She
provided a good balance to their relationship, they made a good team.
But most of all Eileen was a loving mother to her children. She adored her
grandchildren and found great joy spending time with her sisters.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Gletis Strawn, her
husband Harold Green; two sisters, Orvilla Bowling and Lucille Brown and one
brother, James Strawn.
She is survived by her daughter Karla (Jim) Vest of Pittsboro, Indiana and one
son Dennie (Julie) Green of Loogootee, Indiana; three grandchildren, Kasie and
Mitchell Green of Loogootee, Indiana, and Kyle Green of Colonial Heights,
Virginia, and sisters, Charlotte Meyer, Betty (Joe) Gray, and Susie Page all of
Loogootee, Indiana.

Michael J. Greene, age 56 of Petersburg and formerly of Loogootee died Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at his home in Petersburg, Indiana.
He was born on November 1, 1955 in Mount Clemens,
Michigan to Robert and Martha (Westenbarger) Greene
He was a member of the Loogootee United Methodist
Church and a 1974 graduate of Loogootee High School. He participated in the
“20A” Walk to Emmaus and loved animals and his military career and patriotism
to his country.
Mike retired from the United States Air Force and later retired from NSWC
Crane. While in the military Mike was a member of the Funeral Honor Guard.
Mike was a member of the American Legion and VFW and was the past commander of
the Petersburg American Legion. He served on the Funeral Detail for the
communities of Oakland City, Petersburg,
Shoals, Winslow, Washington and Loogootee.
