Lonnie L. Salmon

Lonnie
L. Salmon, age 58, of Shoals, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly at
12:15 a.m., on Friday, October 30, 2015, at the Daviess Community
Hospital, in Washington, Indiana. He was born on September 26, 1957, in
Martin County, Indiana, the son of the late Robert and Fern (Lundy)
Salmon. He married Bobbi Sheetz on January 19, 1980, in Williams,
Indiana. Lonnie graduated from Shoals High School in 1975. He was
previously employed by Calcar Quarries, in Paoli, and was soon to
retire from the Indiana Department of Transportation. He greatly
enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, blacksmithing, hunting,
cutting wood, and attending tractor pulls. Lonnie was a member of the
Indiana Blacksmithing Association and Bunkham Valley Blacksmith
Association. Survivors include his wife, Bobbi, of Shoals; daughters,
Traci Grafton and her husband Chad, of Loogootee; and Kathy Royston, of
Shoals; four grandchildren, Tristan and Noah Knight, and Emri and Colin
Grafton; two brothers, Jerry Salmon, of Loogootee; and Roy Salmon, of
Shoals; one sister-in-law, Sandy Salmon, of Loogootee; and numerous
nieces, nephews, and friends. He was also preceded in death by one
brother, Larry Salmon, Sr. His funeral service will be held at 11:00
a.m., on Tuesday, November 3rd, at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home, in
Shoals. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, at Shoals.
Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Monday, November 2nd,
at the funeral home.

Joyce Montgomery

Joyce
Marie Montgomery, age 70, of Jasper, Indiana, died at 5:00 p.m. on
Monday, October 26, 2015, at St. Vincent Heart Center, in Indianapolis,
Indiana. She was a former resident of Shoals. She and her husband,
Marvin, formerly operated a photo studio here before moving between
Haysville and Jasper where they operated Marvin’s Shop, dealing in
computer sales and repair. Joyce was born on October 1, 1945, in Orange
County, at Hardinsburg, Indiana, to the late Knofel and Kathryn (Duke)
Bobbitt. She married Marvin Montgomery, who survives. She was a
homemaker and attended Victory Temple, in Jasper. Joyce is also
survived by one daughter, Melba Covel, of Loogootee, one son, Ansel
Montgomery, of Jasper, three brothers, Morris Bobbitt, of Washington,
Paul Bobbitt, of Hardinsburg, and Donald Bobbitt, of Hardinsburg, 10
grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by one daughter, Melody Mosier. Funeral services will be held at 1:00
p.m. on Friday, October 30th, at McAdams Mortuary, in Paoli, Indiana,
with Bro. Joel Riveria officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove
Cemetery, at Hardinsburg. Visitation is scheduled at McAdams Mortuary
on Thursday, October 29th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m

Elmer C. Tedrow

Elmer
Cletus Tedrow, age 84, of Shoals, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday,
October 27, 2015, at the Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center, in
Jasper, Indiana. He was born March 5, 1931, in Alfordsville, Indiana,
to the late Edgar and Dortha (Witt) Tedrow. Mr. Tedrow was previously
employed by Lindsey’s Ford Tractor Sales, Monon Railroad Company, and
retired from his greatest joy, woodworking. He was a lifelong Martin
County dairy and grain farmer. He attended Martin County Schools and
was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 2442. Survivors
include his children, Connie Benson, of Salem, Indiana; Cheryl Beyers
and husband Tim, of Shoals; Rick Tedrow and wife Rhonda, of Dubois;
Mark Tedrow and wife Renee, Bob Tedrow and wife Vicky, and Brian Tedrow
and wife Susan, all of Shoals; 11 grandchildren; 14
great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy “Midge” Collins, of
Shoals. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Eva Feller and
Mary Montgomery; and brothers, Paul, Marion, and Kenny Tedrow. His
funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, November 2nd, at the
Queen-Lee Funeral Home, in Shoals. Burial will be in the Pleasant
Valley Cemetery, at Shoals. Visitation is from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00
p.m., on Sunday, November 1st, at the funeral home.

John D. Smith

John
D. Smith, Sr., age 76, of Huron, Indiana, passed away at 4:00 p.m. on
Saturday, October 24, 2015, at I.U. Health, in Bedford, Indiana. He was
born on January 17, 1939, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Everett
and Edna (Sims) Smith. He married Linda Hoyt in 1982 in Indianapolis,
Indiana, and she survives. John retired as an LMS mechanic for the
United States Postal Service, in Indianapolis. He attended Indianapolis
schools and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean
War. He was an avid collector of trains, and was a ham radio operator.
He is also survived by two sons, John Smith, Jr., of Paoli, and James
D. Smith, of Bloomington; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and
the mother of his children, Linda Sturgeon. He was preceded in death by
two sisters, Annabelle and Eunice, and one brother, Robert. The funeral
service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28th, at the
Queen-Lee Funeral Home, in Shoals. Burial will follow in the Port
Williams Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. Wednesday until
the hour of service. American Legion Post No. 61 will accord military
graveside rites.

Ledgerwood
Shoals News October 26, 2015
Carroll
Marvin Ledgerwood, age 80, of Washington, Indiana, passed away at 9:46
a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2015, at Daviess Community Hospital. He was
born October 10, 1935, in Loogootee, Indiana, to the late Arrin Frank
and Lou Vella (Parsons) Ledgerwood. Carroll was a graduate of Loogootee
High School. He then served his country in the U.S. Army, and was
honorably discharged. After his military service he worked for the U.S.
Postal Service, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He enjoyed painting scenery and
still life. He also played in bands at area nursing homes. Carroll was
preceded in death by his parents, Arrin Frank and Lou Vella (Parsons)
Ledgerwood; siblings, Arnold Ledgerwood, Blanche Jeselnik, Herman
Ledgerwood, Ruth Axsom, Virginia Daugherty, and Vance Ledgerwood. He is
survived by his brother, Terry Ledgerwood and wife Dianna, of Columbia,
Missouri; niece, Martha Bagot and husband Walter, of Fishers, Indiana;
nephew, Ron Daugherty and wife Pat, of Loogootee; sisters-in-law
Rosemary Ledgerwood, of Fishers, and Mary Ledgerwood, of Loogootee; and
additional nieces and nephews in other states. Funeral services will be
conducted at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, October 27th, at the
Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home, in Loogootee. Burial will follow in
South Martin Cemetery. Visitation is set for Tuesday, October 27th,
from 10:00 until the time of service at the funeral home.

Frances
‘Fran’ Sue Holland, 71, of Odon, entered into rest surrounded by her
loving family on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital in
Indianapolis.
She was born on December 3, 1943 in Washington to Lee and Bess
(Stringer) Corbin.
Fran
was a Christian, devoted mother, grandmother and sister. She loved
animals, talking to people and was an avid reader. Fran worked as a
teacher’s aide at Odon Elementary and Jasper Middle School before
working at Kimball Electronics.
Survivors
include one son, Chris (Aileen) Maryfield of Dumfries, VA;
two daughters, Julie Maryfield of Evansville and Karen (Ryan)
Maryfield-Roach of Linton; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Mitchell,
Collin, Allec, Acellyn, Taylor and Lauren; one great-granddaughter,
Ezra; and one sister, Nadine (Paul) McKee of Elnora.
Fran was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Bob Corbin.
Funeral
services took place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2015
at the Elnora Christian Church with Archie Ellett and Richard Smith
officiating. Fran will be laid to rest in the Walnut Hill Cemetery in
Odon at a later date.
The
family has requested that memorial contributions be made in memory
of Fran to Friends for Animals, PO Box 402, Washington, IN 47501.
Envelopes will be available at the church.
All

Marjorie
Arvin, 92, of Loogootee, passed away at 7:40 a.m. on October 29, 2015
at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.
She was born April 19, 1923 in Barr Township to the late John Vincent
and Theresa (Gootee) Ash.
Marjorie
had worked for Reliance Shirt Factory and the Odon Poultry
House. She cooked for the Sisters of Providence in Joliet, IL. She then
focused her life as a successful wife, mother and homemaker.
Marjorie
babysat for many families over the years and influenced many
children during her babysitting years. She was a wonderful cook and
baker. She brought her family and community together by a good meal and
a glass of tea. Marjorie loved sports, especially the Barr-Reeve
Vikings and St. Louis Cardinals. She was a member of St. Martin
Catholic Church, where she was a member of the St. Martin Rosary Altar
Society. She was an honored recipient of the Brute Award which was
awarded by the Bishop of the Evansville Diocese.
She
was preceded in death by her husband in 1990, Joseph C. Arvin; son,
Larry Arvin; parents, John Vincent and Theresa (Gootee) Ash; siblings,
Ernestine (Francis) Hunter, Jim (Marg) Ash, John Ash, Mary (Murel)
Seal, Alice Matthews, Joe (Ida Mae) Ash and Jerry (Carol) Ash.
Marjorie
is survived by her children, Jane Ann Davis of Loogootee,
Sharon Coppinger of Loogootee, Don (Lucy) Arvin of Indianapolis and
Ernie Arvin of Jasper; daughter-in-law, Karen Arvin of Anderson;
grandchildren, Sara (Jay) Standlee, Nick Arvin, Lee Ann (Nick)
Wininger, Brian (Sarah) Coppinger and Holly (Andy) Fraley; 13
great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Rita Ash and brother-in-law, Frank
Matthews, both of Loogootee.
A
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth
Walker at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 2nd, 2015 at St. Martin
Catholic Church in Whitfield. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Larry R. Blake

Larry
Randall Blake, 68, passed away on Monday morning, October 26, 2015 in
Shoals at the home of his caregivers Kathy West and Tom Jones. Born
December 7, 1946 in Hancock County, Kentucky he was the son of the late
Bernard Kirby Blake and Ella Elizabeth (Carter) (Blake) Sabelhaus.
Larry
was an avid reader along with being an animal lover. Larry spent
14 years as a member of the Indiana National Guard w along with being a
member of the Laborers Local 561 of Evansville for a number of years.
He was employed at Spencer Plastics in Dale prior to becoming disabled.
Larry
was married to the late Mary Stepro Blake. Also preceding him in
death are two sisters, Brenda Joyce Bland and Mary Elizabeth Dickman.
He
is survived by his brother, Preston Blake of Hawesville, Kentucky
and a sister Frida Lutgring of Tell City; two step-daughters, Donna
Sherrill of Henderson, Kentucky and Brenda Bell of Grandview.
The
family would like to give a special thank you to Kathy West and Tom
Jones for being such wonderful caregivers during Larry’s time of need.
In keeping with Larry’s wishes, he was created and there will be no
services. Arrangements were handled by Queen-Lee Funeral Home.

Elmer
“Spark” Swartzentruber, 92, of Montgomery, went to his Heavenly home at
8:33a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2015 at Memorial Hospital and
Healthcare Center.
He was born December 25, 1922 in Daviess County to the late Louis and
Katherine (Swartz) Swartzentruber.
Elmer
was a member of Providence Mennonite Church and active in the
congregation many years serving as elder, song leader and Sunday School
teacher. He worked with his father farming and then for many years as a
carpenter. He retired at age 65 from Crane Construction. He continued
his carpentry skills in the community and volunteering on mission,
disaster and relief trips throughout the U.S. He always found time to
use his exceptional talents on many special projects for his family.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Katherine (Swartz)
Swartzentruber; 2 sisters and 9 in-laws; son-in-law, Randall Yoder and
2 great-grandsons.
Elmer
is survived by his wife, Alta (Miller) Swartzentruber whom he
married on December 31st, 1944; daughters, Judi (Owen) Wagler of
Jerome, MI., Marla (Gayle) Armes of Scottsdale, AZ., Donna Yoder of
Jasper, IN., Treva (Simon Jr) Wagler of Jerome, MI., and Beth (Roger)
Walton of Iron Station, NC.; 14 grandchildren and 18 great
grandchildren; 4 siblings; 3 in-laws; numerous nieces, nephews, other
relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6,
2015 at
Providence
Mennonite Church in Montgomery. A private family burial will follow in
the church cemetery.

She was born October 22, 1926 in Chicago, IL to the late Hugh and
Cecilia (Toale) Martin.
Theresa was a believer of the catholic faith. She was an avid bowler.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Ryan; parents, Hugh
and Cecilia (Toale) Martin; one sister and three brothers.
She
is survived by five sons, James (Chris) Ryan of Deland, FL, Michael

home in Riverview, FL.
She was born on November 16, 1948 in Washington to the late Milford and
Lula (Lane) Tedrow.
She
is survived by her brother, Steve Tedrow, of Mitchell; her sons,
John Randall Bateman of Tacoma, WA and Richard Bateman of Tampa, FL;
also her grandchildren, Jason Bateman of Seattle, WA, Jenna Bateman of
Arroyo Grande, CA and Zachary Bateman of Tampa, FL; along with other
very special family and friends.
She was also an active member of the Moose Lodge and lived her life to
the fullest. She will truly be missed.

November 2, 2015 at his home.
He was born December 2, 1952 in Anderson, IN to Bob and Rosella (Karr)
Huff.
Stephen
was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a supervisor
and plant manager at Loogootee Manufacturing. He loved his family,
especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Huff.

children, Joshua (Andrea) Huff of Loogootee, Stephanie K. (Brian) Gregg

Harvey Wagler
Harvey Wagler, 67, of Odon, IN, passed away at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday,
October 11, 2015 at his home.
He was born August 31, 1948 in Daviess County, IN to the late Benjamin
and Susie Marie (Wagler) Wagler.
Harvey married Judy (Crynes) Wagler September 5th, 1969 and she
survives.
He
was employed with IMI for 38 years and retired in 2007. He then worked
at Crane Army for 7 years and retired in 2014. He was a member of the
Odon Christian Church.
Harvey enjoyed his grandchildren and loved
going to their sporting events. He was an avid fan of the Indianapolis
Colts, St. Louis Cardinals and IU Basketball.
He was preceded in
death by his infant daughter, Angela Wagler; parents, Benjamin and
Susie Marie (Wagler) Wagler; sister, Orpha Lengacher; father-in-law,
Dean Crynes; mother-in-law, Wanda Crynes; brother-in-law, Donnie
Miller.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Judy (Crynes) Wagler of
Odon; son, Brad (Becki) Wagler of Odon; daughters, Crystal (Nathan)
Roach of Ft. Wayne and Jennifer (Curtis) Hancock of Odon;

Elizabeth (Liz) J. Nolan, 79, of Montgomery, passed away at 12:55 p.m.
on October 6, 2015 in Loogootee.
She was born March 23, 1936 in Washington, IN to the late Jacob and
Martha Ellen (Miles) Miller.
Liz
was a 1953 graduate of Washington Catholic High School. She was a
member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and All Saints Catholic Church,
where she was a very active member in the Alter Society.
She loved
solving crossword puzzles, writing poems for every occasion, crocheting
and reading. Liz had an eye for fashion and appreciated sparkling
beauty. Liz treasured her family, her grandchildren and her loving
husband George.
Liz is preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and
Martha Ellen (Miles) Miller; sister, Anna Mae (Bill) Miller; brothers,
Bob Miller and Dale Miller.
She is survived by her husband of 60
years, George Nolan of Montgomery; children, Lisa (Curt) Miller of
Montgomery, Colleen (Jerry) Moore of Marietta, GA., Lori (Bruce) Gusman
of Miami, FL., Lawrence J. (Janella) Nolan III of Washington, Tim

(Betty) Marie Wright, 81, of Odon, IN, passed away at 7:40 p.m. on
Monday, October 5, 2015 at Ketcham Memorial Center.
She was born August 18, 1934 in Sullivan County to the late Emmett and
Barbara (Clark) Wright.
Betty lived the last ten years of her life at Ketcham Memorial Center
in Odon. She enjoyed her years there very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Barbara (Clark)
Wright and brother, Edgar Lloyd Wright.
Betty
is survived by sister, Rose Rink of Washington; nephews, Jon (Roberta)
Rink, Tim (Robin) Rink and Edward Wright; great nieces, Renee and Rose
Marie Rink; great nephew, Timothy Rink, all of Washington.

Alice Mattingly
Alice
Mattingly, 69, of Loogootee, Indiana, passed away at 1: 37 PM,
Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Daviess Community Hospital in Washington.
She was born March, 31, 1946 in Odon, In. to the late John T. Kaiser
and Jessie (Hamilton) Kaiser.
Alice married Joseph L. Mattingly on July 20, 1968 and he preceded her
in death.
Alice
graduated from Odon High School and Indiana Business School in
Indianapolis. She retired from NSWC in 1986 and was owner-operator of
Mattingly Feed Service in Loogootee and J.M. Feed Center in
Greencastle, In. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic
Church and former member of St. Mary Catholic Church Barr Township. She

Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center
in Jasper.
She was born in Loogootee, Indiana on July 2, 1947 to the late William
E. Mudd and Dorothy (Holland) Milligan.
Mary
graduated from St. John’s High School and was a member of St. John the
Evangelist Catholic Church. Family, gardening, shopping and reading
were her life’s interests. She worked for John O’Brien and Lett and
Jones Law Office. She was a retired legal clerk for Farmers Home
Administration.
She is survived by her brothers, John (Sharon)
Mudd of Jasper, Tom (Jan) Mudd and Dave (Beth) Milligan of Loogootee;
sisters, Helen (Johnny) Yeadon of Corydon, Sue (Fred) Michaels of

Virginia. He retired from RCA in Bloomington, IN.

Laboratories, INC. in Louisville, KY.
He was the Past President of the Bass Club at Crane. He was a member of
the Loogootee United Methodist Church.

retired from Crane after 26 years of employment. He enjoyed fishing,
NASCAR, reading and watching the History Channel. He adored his family,
friends and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his

Cleo
Wilcher, 82, of Loogootee, Indiana, formerly of Wanamaker/Acton area
passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 at 12:45 a.m. at his home
surrounded by his family.
He was born October 19, 1932 in Lincoln County, KY to the late Matt and
Elizabeth (Lizzie Smith) Wilcher.
Cleo married Dorothy Jean (Sexson) on February 25, 1955 and she
survives.
From
1950 to 1953 Cleo served in the U.S. Army achieving the rank of
Corporal, serving abroad in Japan, in support of the Korean War where
he earned the National Defense Service Medal. He enjoyed working on his
farm, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
He was a livestock dealer and farmer for most of his life. He was the
owner of Loogootee-Jasper Livestock Center, Inc. He was a member of the
VFW Post 9395, American Legion Post 120 and Beech Grove Masonic Lodge
694 for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Lizzie Wilcher and
brothers, Matt Jr., Lawrence and Vernon Wilcher.

is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Sexson) Wilcher of Loogootee; son,
Larry (Cindy) Wilcher of Montgomery; daughters, Denise (David)
Sutherland and Darlene (Mike) Bradley both of New Palestine and Rosie
(Doug) Bridges of Loogootee; brother, Gerald Wilcher; two sisters,
Violet Mattingly and Anna Lee Hoyt. Cleo was the proud grandfather of
Todd (Stacy), Kyle and Darren (Sarah) Wilcher, Cleo, Jennifer, Dwayne
(Kristi), and Doug (Miranda) Sutherland, Dottie (Jim) Webb, Levi
(Sherry) Bradley, Leah (Zach) Herron, Laura (Shane) Williams and
Chassidy Bridges. He also had great grandchildren, Dakota Adams, Keegan
O’Neill, Garath, Maggie and Addie Webb, Lilly Maxwell, Scott and Lexi
Bradley, Aubree Herron, Will Sutherland, Jase Wilcher and Liam
Williams.

where he was the Post Commander.
He retired from Jasper Engine and Transmission.

2015 at 4:56 pm at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper,
Indiana.
He was born May 6, 1940 in Loogootee, IN to the late Russell and
Lucille (Gosnell) Hunt.
John
was the owner of Hunts Steamer Café. He was a past Sheriff of Martin
County and a past Chief of Police for the City of Loogootee. He was a
supervisor for the Bureau of Motor Vehicle. He was a member of the
Loogootee City Council and was the Clerk of Martin Circuit Court. He
was currently employed by Traylor Trucking in Montgomery.
He was a
member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus,
Fraternal Order of the Lodge, Masons, Hadi Shriner, Fraternal Order of
Police, Indiana Sheriffs Association Board of Trustees, President of
Jaycees, Moose Club, Eagles, Democratic County Chairman, Independent
Order of the Odd Fellows and Gold Wing Association.
John enjoyed camping, motorcycles, Loogootee Lion sports and going to
his kids and grandkids sporting events.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Lucille (Gosnell)

Dolores
was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Loogootee. She was a member
of the Loogootee Ecumenical Choir and participated in the annual chili
fundraiser.
She loved to cook, especially for her family. She
enjoyed bowling, traveling, word puzzles, spoiling her grandchildren
and loved her sweet tea.
She owned Belles and Beaus for 15 years in Jasper. It was her pride and
joy.

Lonnie Survance, 68, of Loogootee, passed away at 11:00 p.m. on
Thursday, July 16, 2015 at his home.
He was born January 13, 1947 to the late James and Violet (Hitt)
Survance in Albion, IL.
Lonnie was a veteran of the United States Army. He spent two years in
Germany during the Vietnam War.
He
held various jobs throughout his life. He was on a coalmine reclamation
team, a farmer and an employee of the Martin County Highway Department.
Lonnie enjoyed the outdoors, working on vehicles and restoring classic
cars and tractors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Violet (Hitt)

Elizabeth J. Gilbert, 70, of Loogootee, IN, passed away at 3:15 a.m. on
Thursday, July 9, 2015 at her home.
She was born September 24, 1944 in Longview, Texas.
Elizabeth loved being a CNA and worked at various hospitals and nursing
homes over the past 44 years.
She
is survived by her husband of 23 years, John Gilbert of Loogootee;
daughters, Renee (Terry) Green of Texas and Amy Sebastian of Texas;
grandchildren, Hailey and Justin Sebastian.

Kevin Sutton
Kevin B. Sutton, 58, of Loogootee, passed away at 9:46 a.m. on July
3rd, 2015 at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.
He was born January 25, 1957 in Jasper, IN to Frieda (Hovis) Sutton and
the late Walter “Hack” Sutton.
Kevin
was an passionate hunter, fisher and outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending
time with his grandchildren. He was employed at Hoosier Uplands for
over 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter “Hack” Sutton and
brother, Terry Sutton.

is survived by his wife, Sharon (Nolley) Sutton of Loogootee; son, Matt

she was the daughter of the late William Ivan and Blanche (Walton)
Sims. She
married William N. "Bill" Heckard on August 8, 1947 in Vincennes
and he preceded
her in death on September 21, 2003.Delphia attended Martin County
Schools. She
received her GED in 1972 scoring the highest in the State of Indiana
at that time. She then attended Indiana University,
taking courses in
accounting. She retired from the Indiana Department of Revenue after 21
years
in 1990.She is survived by her children, Norman (Sharon) Heckard of
Bedford;

Edward Joseph Carithers, 64,
went home to be with the Lord
June, 18, 2014. He died at home with his wife, Cynthia and other family
at his
side. He was born October 29, 1949, to James and Florence
(Crinshaw) Carithers, of Princeton, IN.He graduated from Booneville
High School
in 1968, and entered the United States Navy from 1968 to 1974 serving
his
country during the Vietnam War. He was an Ensign and trained as an
Electrical
Engineer carrying out his duties in a role of leadership in maintenance
on
different military vessels. Upon completing his tour of service, Ed
trained and
worked for Peabody Coal Company 28 years as Safety
Instructor/Supervisor; then
went to work for Conex as a certified Blaster doing controlled shooting
in
their mines for the last 12 years.Ed had a real love for life and
nature. He
lived every day to the fullest, as if it was his last, always having a
smile
and kind word for everyone.He is survived by his wife; two sons, Andy
Carithers. of NV, Toby and wife Cheyenne Carithers, of Spencer County,
IN, and
one daughter, Libby and husband, Brad Woodman, of NV; two stepsons,
Trevor and

He was born Feb. 8, 1946, in Montgomery, to Alice (Auberry) and Chester
Gregory.
He
was a graduate of Huntingburg High School in 1965. He was retired from
Old Ben Coal Mine and was a UMWA member. He loved horses and was a
blacksmith.
He is survived by sons John E. (Eowyn) Gregory of Maine,
Joe Gregory of Boise, Idaho; daughters Angie (Aron) O’Neal of Stendal,
and Dorie (Larry) Maikranz of Newburgh; sisters Lillian Halbert of
Washington, Lola (William) Russell of Montgomery, Becky Jenkins of
Dale, Stella (Darrell) Abbott of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Patsy (Jerry)
Whitsitt of Huntingburg, and Helen Dixon of Otwell; and seven
grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents.

Daniel
P. Lannan, 84, of Washington, passed away Tuesday at Good Samaritan
Hospital of Vincennes. Daniel was born July 28, 1931, in Loogootee, to
the late Joseph and Mary (Melton) Lannan.
Daniel was a well-known
general contractor who built homes in Daviess, Martin, and surrounding
counties, including homes for each of his children. He took a great
deal of pride in his work and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Daniel was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, and the
American Legion Post 120. He served from 1951 until 1953 in the Korean
Conflict as a member of the U.S. Army.
Daniel was married to the
late Alice B. (Devine) Lannan for 57 years, marrying June 25, 1955.
Survivors include three children, Lisa Lee (Rory), Lori Chattin (Scott)
and Daniel Lannan (Laura); grandchildren Misty Goble (Tony), Abby Hale
(Jay), Trent Chattin, Brogan Lee, Madison McAnelly (Justin) and Luke
Lannan; great-grandchildren, Alice Ann Goble, Jaxon Daniel Hale, Jonah
Joseph Hale, Jace Nicholas Hale and Hudson Scott Goble; siblings Rose
Ann Butler-Arney, Wilma Sinnott, Paul Lannan, Clifford J. Lannan,

married Bud Owings, who died in 1947.

in both Terre Haute and Indianapolis offices. She was retired.

are two nephews, Ronald (Judy) Ratcliff and Matt (Ginger) Ratcliff,
both of Bedford; two nieces, Audrey (Bob Cline) Ratcliff, Heltonville
and Billie (Jeff) Shoup, Leavenworth, IN; and several great- nephews
and great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her

Wanda Jean
(Ratliff) Parsons, passed away at 8:21 a.m. on October 13,
2015 at Daviess Community Hospital. She was born November 8, 1944 in
Lawrence County, Indiana to the late Harold and Nancy Alice (Wease)
Ratliff of Bryantsville. She married James Vernon Parsons on January
19, 1963.
Wanda graduated in
1962 from Huron High School. She was a
very dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother. She loved her home and family very much. She was a
seamstress at Edson Incorporated in Loogootee. She also was a loyal
follower of Jesus Christ and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's
Witnesses in French Lick.

Robert “Bob” Flinn, 89, of Bloomington, passed away suddenly at
his home early Monday morning, October 12, 2015, with his devoted wife,
Jane, at his bedside.
Bob
was born June 26, 1926, in Lawrence Co., to John E. and Elizabeth
(Ingalls) Flinn.
He
married Jane Burks on January 16, 1948 and she survives.
Bob
was a graduate of Bedford High School with the class of 1944. He
attended the College of Notre Dame as well as Wabash College. He was a
veteran of the U.S. Navy and was discharged in 1945. Bob was employed
by GM Powertrain, Bedford, for 30 years, retiring in 1977. He was
always known for his ability to remember all of his coworkers names at
the Bedford plant. He had a great sense of humor. Bob attended Sherwood
Oaks Christian Church, Bloomington. He was a member of American Legion,
Gillen Post #33, Bedford and was past Exalted Ruler of the Bedford
Elks. Bob also enjoyed crossword puzzles.

are his wife
Jane, of Bloomington; one son-in-law, Mike Murray, Maumelle, AK;
grandsons, Michael Murray, Chapel Hill, NC and Patrick Murray, Dallas,

August 13, 1976. She retired from RCA after 23 years of service and
attended the Mount Olive Church of Christ. Gladys enjoyed traveling

Donald
Joseph Qualkenbush, 79, passed away at the Garden Villa in
Bedford on August 7, 2015. Born in Martin County, Indiana on August 10,
1935, he was the son of Henderson and Mary (Blackwell) Qualkenbush.
He
is survived by one sister, Margie Lynch of Williams, Indiana, several
nieces and nephews, and great- nieces and great-nephews.
Preceding
him in death were his parents, sisters Theresa Cox and Betty Abel;
brothers Fred and Johnny Qualkenbush; nieces Carolyn Davis and Judy
Cox; and nephews Phil and Gary Lynch.
Donald loved music,
model cars, eating any kind of chocolate and listening to the radio.

Yarnell, 103, of Dover Hill, went to her heavenly home on July
15, 2015 at 1:20 p.m. at the Loogootee Nursing Center. Born on June 1,
1912 in Daviess County, Indiana she was the daughter of the late Isaac
and Mary (Williams) Gardiner.
Edna married Denzel
K. Yarnell in
April of 1935 and he preceded her in death in 1952. She attended
Loogootee Schools and in her younger years was employed at the Reliance
Factory in Loogootee. Edna was a homemaker and avid quilter. She was a
member of the Dover Hill Church of Christ in Christian Union.
She is survived by
1 daughter, Norma, and her husband, Carl Willyard of Shoals
1 grandson, Kyle,
and his wife Laura, Willyard of Bloomfield
Numerous nieces and
nephews.
She
is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Ida Brown and
Lula Harris, brothers, Warren Gardiner, Richard Alonza Gardiner, Wilber
Gardiner, Floyd Stanley and Sherman Stanley.

Boyd, 96, of Shoals, passed away at the Daviess Community
Hospital in Washington on June 14, 2015 at 10:40 p.m. Born on October
22, 1918 in Denver Colorado, she was the daughter of Valmore and Stella
Nugent Hawkins.
Ruth married John
“Jack” Boyd in French Lick,
Indiana on October 17, 1945 and he preceded her in death on October 3,
1999. Ruth was a homemaker and a member of the Shoals Baptist Church.
She
is survived by sons, Garnett Ray and Brenda Boyd of Shoals; Ronald Dale
Boyd of Washington; Gerald Lee Boyd of Shoals; 10 grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruth was
preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Wilma Jean Wilcoxen
and son Larry Wayne Boyd; brothers Lee Edward and Walter Kenneth
Hawkins; and sister Lucille Pinnick.

held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Queen-Lee Funeral

Mary Bauernfiend
Mary
Bernice Bauernfiend, 93, of Shoals, Indiana joined her loving
husband and savior at 11:25 p.m. on May 12, 2015 at the Memorial
Hospital & Healthcare Center in Jasper. She was born on March
26,
1922 in Martin County, Indiana to Willard and Millie (Henry) Hovis. She
married Leo Bauernfiend on October 27, 1943 and he preceded her in
death on January 19, 1982.
Bernice was a
homemaker and a loving
wife, mother and grandmother. She graduated with the Shoals High School
Class of 1941 and was a faithful member of the Shoals Holiness Church.
Bernice
had a special gift of hospitality. She loved to entertain others in her
home and greatly enjoyed cooking for them. Sunday’s often found her
cooking dinner for any amount of friends her children would invite home
from church. She was a practical joker and loved playing games, howling
with laughter when she would lay down a draw four card on someone. In
later years, Thursday night family night became a highlight to her
week. Her children and grandchildren will have many memories of a
devoted and loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by
two
daughters Mary Bauernfiend of Lake Jackson, TX; Rosie Bauernfiend and
fiancé Rick Lippert of Loogootee; three sons, Dennis and Mary Lou
Bauernfiend of Monrovia, Indiana; Terry and Candi Bauernfiend of Terre
Haute; Dwight and Deanna Bauernfiend of Shoals; 15 grandchildren, 31
great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law,
Rose Bauernfiend of Shoals and brother-in-law John Riddle of Albany, KY.
She
is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Irene Riddle, Blanche
Brett, Earl Hovis, one brother and one sister in infancy, and 2
great-grandchildren in infancy.

Marvin R.
Williams, 66, of Shoals, Indiana passed away on March 31,
2015 at noon at the Timbers of Jasper. Born on February 7, 1949 in
Washington, Indiana, he was the son of Edward and Ida Marie (Bowman)
Williams.
He retired in 1998
and was employed as a truck driver. He
graduated from St. John’s High School in Loogootee, and was a member of
the Shoals Baptist Church.
He is survived by
two sons, Anthony
Williams of Winslow, Billy Like of Loogootee; daughter Christina Jones
of Washington; brother Cary Williams of Loogootee; sister Marilyn of
Florida; granddaughters, Nikki Williams; Chanda Devine; grandsons,
James Like, Rusty Jones, Jacob Williams, Zachary Head, Tyler Devine,
one great granddaughter Zoey Nicole Bender.
Preceded in death
by parents and brother Keith Williams.
Cremation was
chosen and burial at St. John’s Cemetery in Loogootee will be at a
later date.

D. Sherfick, 86, of Shoals, Indiana passed away on Thursday,
March 19, 2015 at 6:37 a.m. at the Daviess Community Hospital in
Washington.
Herb was born on
February 11, 1929 in Lawrence County,
Indiana to Frank and Mary Katherine (Fawcett) Sherfick. He married
Wilma Klutts on February 28, 1953 in Paoli and she preceded him in
death in July of 1958. He then married Deloris Doane on June 10, 1979
and she preceded him in death on December 16, 2005.
He graduated
from Shoals High School Class of 1948 and was valedictorian and
president of his class. He was a proud veteran of the United States
Army, serving with the 5th Armored Division and a Korean War Veteran.
After 27 years of service he retired from Cummins Engine. Herbert held
memberships with the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aeries #2442, Shoals VFW
Post #8589, Shoals American Legion Post #61, and the International
Brotherhood of Diesel Workers.
He is survived by 1
daughter, Debra
and husband Charles K. Guy of Loogootee; 1 son, Michael D. and wife
Tami Sherfick of Shoals. 2 step-sons, Everett “Buster” Belcher and
Larry Belcher both of Shoals; four grandchildren, Trevor, Nick, and
Matt Guy and Jon Sherfick, and 3 great –grandchildren, and
2 sisters, Alice
Wildman and Dorothy Bough both of Loogootee.
He

Albright, 84, of Shoals, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on
January 22, 2015 at 2:59 a.m. at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare in
Jasper. Born on November 27, 1930 in Loogootee, Indiana, he was the son
of Orville and Ruby (Grindstaff) Albright. He married his wife of 64
years, Mary Ellen Stewart on June 10, 1950 in Shoals, Indiana.
Larry
graduated with the Shoals High School Class of 1948, and then served
his country in the United States Army. He owned and operated an
insurance agency and was a realtor with RE/MAX. He was a civic minded
individual, who spent many years in service to his community. He was
most active as a volunteer of the Shoals Volunteer Fire Department, and
held memberships in the Shoals Lions Club, Martin County Historical
Society, and White River Masonic Lodge F. & A.M #332, formerly
serving as Worshipful Master. A faithful and active member of the
Shoals United Methodist Church, he served in many capacities of church
leadership.

married Austin Jones in 1945 in Quincy, Illinois, and he preceded her
in death in 1980.
Helen was a
homemaker. She enjoyed traveling,
gardening, canning, and frying fish. She was a dedicated member of

at Perfect Fit in Loogootee and at Medco-Gentle Care for over twenty
years.

"Bubby" Hembree, Jr, 78, passed away at his home in Halbert
Township on November 22, 2014 at 6:30 a.m. He was born in Rutherford
Township on August 14, 1936 and was one of fifteen children born to
Ernest B and Dorothy I. Hembree Hembree. Ernest proudly served his
country in the United States Air Force, and was a lifelong truck
driver, retiring from Wasbash Trucking in 1997. After retirement, he
enjoyed spending each day in his man cave with his boxer Rome, and he
greatly enjoyed his family, but the real light of his eye was his
great-grandson, Eyan. He is survived by his son Larry, and
daughter-in-law Jenny, of Shoals

Born on July 19, 1951 in Washington, Indiana, she was the daughter of
Harold and Vivian Wilson Johnson. Ruth Ann married Raymond E. Asbell on
April 1, 1966 at the Loogootee United Methodist Church. She was a
waitress at the Homestead Restaurant in Loogootee and was owner and
operator of the East Broadway Cafe in Loogootee. Ruth Ann was well
known for her sausage gravy and biscuits and she enjoyed making candy.

Henrietta Marie Johnson on August 22, 1975 at the St. Mary of The
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Shoals. He was employed at
Perfect Fit in Loogootee until the plant closed, but his real passion
was farming. He is survived by his wife, Henrietta of Loogootee

L. Cook, 59, of Shoals passed away Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. at the
Loogootee Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. She was born June
10,
1955 in French Lick, Indiana, the daughter of Seymour and Evelyn Cooper
of Lost River Township. She was a 1973 graduate of Shoals High School
and a 1975 graduate of Vincennes Beauty College. Diane married Stephen
F. Cook on July 29, 1982, in Svenborg, Denmark. They resided in
Huntsville, Alabama most of their married life. While in Huntsville she
was employed by Lockheed-Martin. Diana had a passion for sewing and was
self-employed fabricating custom draperies. She also did alterations
and enjoyed needle pointing. Her last place of employment was Hembree
Properties in Loogootee.
May 2010 Diana moved back to Shoals from Huntsville, Alabama to be near
family and friends.
She attended Shoals Christian Church.
She
is survived by a daughter and two grandsons, sisters Verneeda Roach of
Loogootee, Linda Stone of Shoals and brothers Harold, Roger and Michael
Cooper of Shoals. Several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Steve in April 2008, her
parents, brother, Bill and sister, Imogene

Chester Harding
Chester
Lee Harding, 83, of Jasper, formerly of Shoals, Indiana, went to his
eternal rest at 12:33 a.m. on July 15, 2014 at his residence. Born on
May 23, 1931 in Shoals, Indiana, he was the son of Elmer Josiah and
Moletha Ann Acton Harding.
Lee graduated from Shoals High School and
then joined the United States Navy, serving in the Korean War. He was
first married to Mary Louise Walton, and they were parents of a
daughter, Lori and a son, Lance. He later married Shanna Karen Dixon
and she survives.
A patriot in the truest sense of the word, he
loved his country and proudly served as Past Commander of the Shoals
American Legion Post #61. He retired after 40 years as a Civil Engineer
for the State of Indiana. Lee spent many hours volunteering as a Boy
Scout Leader. He was a former member of St. Mary of The Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church in Shoals, and currently a member of St.
Mary's Parish in Ireland.
Chester was a friendly fellow whom in his
own words, "never met a stranger, just someone I haven't talked to
yet". He enjoyed fishing, but his greatest passion was gardening. He
enjoyed sharing his abundant harvest with family and friends, and often
used his garden goods to "barter". He will be greatly missed by his
family, including:

Born
on August 14, 1924 in Martin County, Indiana, she was the daughter of
the late Ernest and Ella (Gilbert) Holt. She married Frank M. Tharp in
Martin County, Indiana on September 10 1940 and he preceded her in
death in 1988.
Lucille was previously employed at the French Lick
Sheraton and at the Shoals Bus Stop. She attended the Shoals Holiness
Church.

on. He attended Shoals Schools and was of the Christian faith.

William Wilson, 78, of Loogootee, formerly of Shoals, passed away at
St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis on Thursday, August 6, 2015.
Born in Crane, Indiana on June 6, 1937, he was the son of Charles Opal
and Ruth Esther (Allen) Wilson.
He
retired from Crane NAD in 1973, and was a member for the Fraternal
Order of Eagles #2442 and V.F.W. Post #8589. He proudly served in the
United States Navy during the Korean War.
Survivors include companion, Karen Goff of Loogootee

Two daughters Debbie Wilson of Shoals and Lisa Doane of Ohio

Allan Sims
Allan
A. Sims, 82, passed away on August 25, 2015 at his residence in Trinity
Springs. Born on October 16, 1932 he was the son of Fred and Mary
Frances (Wildman) Sims.
Allan was a beloved member of the
community and will be remembered for his willingness to help anyone in
need and his friendly smile. He attended Trinity Springs Schools,
graduated from Williams High School, and proudly served in the United
States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Shoals
American Legion Post #61, White River Masonic Lodge F. & A.M.,
and
currently served on and was treasurer of the East Fork Water Board.
Allan attended the Trinity Springs Church of Christ and loved watching
NASCAR.
He was formerly employed at National Gypsum, and retired
after 33 years from NAD Crane. He also read the meter for REMC and
worked for the East Fork Water, Martin County Highway Department, and
recently retired as custodian from Old National Bank.
Survivors include his son Gary L. and wife Carla Sims of Shoals
Grandchildren, Chris Sims, David Sims, Travis Souerdike, Wendy Banks
and A.J. Banks.

Dean Bergman, 51, of Shoals, Indiana passed away at his residence on
August 22, 2015 at 6:20 p.m. Born in Orange County, Indiana on February
24, 1964 he was the son of Roy K. and Karen (Newlin) Bergman.
Jim attended Shoals Schools and was disabled.
He
is survived by his mother, Karen Bergman of Hillham; sister Lori West
of French Lick; brother Roy Lee Bergman of Shoals; special nephew Josh
Bergman of Shoals; and a very close friend Eldon Pursley of French Lick.
He is preceded in death by his father and an infant brother Jeffrey Joe
Bergman.
The
family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday,
August 29, 2015 at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals. Burial will be
made at a later date in Milltown Cemetery in Milltown, Indiana.

L. Howell, 76, of French Lick, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at
11:59 p.m. at the Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper.
Born
on March 31, 1939 in Dubois County, Indiana he was the son of the late
Lewis E. and Grace Edna (Lagenour) Howell. He married Deloris Roach on
October 30, 1960 in Martin County, Indiana.
Carl retired from the
United States Postal Service, having been employed in Davenport, Iowa
and Evansville, Indiana. He graduated from Shoals High School in 1957
and was formerly a Shriner. He attended the Hillham Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris of French Lick

Hillham.

Born in Washington, Indiana on January
9, 1951 he was the son of the late James Webster and Thelma Ruth
(Sheetz) Salmon. He married Donna F. Jones in Martin County on October
6, 1982 in Martin County, Indiana.
He was a veteran of the United
States Army. He was employed in the sawmill industry most of his life
and recently became disabled.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Salmon of Washington

Theresa M. Wilson, 90, of Bedford, died at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, June
24, 2015, at her residence.
Born September 25, 1924, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Joseph and
Fortunata (DiSerio) Siciliani.
She
was a graduate of Bedford High School with the class of 1942; was
retired from NWSC, Crane, IN and K-Mart; and was a member of St.
Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bedford.
Surviving are one
daughter, Susie Bailey, Bedford and one son, Joseph Wilson and his
companion Shona, Mitchell, IN; six grandchildren, Amber Hawkins,
Bedford, Aaron Bailey, San Francisco, CA, Adam Bailey, Austin, TX,
Adrian Bailey, Andrew Bailey and Ashley Bailey, all of Bedford; eight
great grandchildren, Tracy, Tanner, Kadence, Brayden, Austin, Farrah,
Chance and Kyan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Anthony and a

H. “Bill” Hawkins, 71, of Shoals, passed away unexpectedly on
Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 7:09 p.m. at the Daviess Community
Hospital. Born on April 4, 1944 in Sandborn, Indiana he was the son of
William H. and Bonnie (Osborne) Hawkins.
Bill married Deborah A.
(Harker) Hawkins on September 24, 1976 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in
Loogootee. He graduated from Shoals High School in 1962 and received a
B.S. in marketing/management from the University of Evansville, and
retired in April of this year from N.W.S.C. as an engineering/equipment
operator. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the
Vietnam War. Bill attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Loogootee. He
was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and
operating a bulldozer.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Hawkins of Shoals

Rose (Kaiser) Fox, 56, of Washington, formerly of Loogootee, passed
away on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in
Vincennes. She was born on October 24, 1958 in Washington, Indiana to
the late John T. and Jessie (Hamilton) Kaiser. She married Kenneth
David “Swampy” Fox and he preceded her in death in 1996.
She is
survived by son, Matthew David and wife Kayla Fox, of Bicknell; two
daughters, Jessica Nicole Godoy of Bloomfield, Melissa Renee Kaiser of
Petersburg; twelve grandchildren; sisters, Anna Laura (Charles) Fields

Born on October 6, 1961 in Washington, Indiana he
was the son of the late Jerry and Kay (Ragsdale) Horsting. He married
Alice Albaugh on October 26, 2001 in Bedford, Indiana. Tom graduated
from Shoals High School and Bedford North Lawrence Technical Program.
He was currently employed at United States Gypsum in the engineering
maintenance department. Tom loved his family and loved the outdoors and
traveling.

Sue Waggoner of Shoals passed away at Good Samaritan Hospice in
Vincennes on May 29, 2015 at 9:44 p.m. Born on April 17, 1941 in
Loogootee, Indiana she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Edith
(Earl) Ragsdale.
Sue graduated as Salutatorian from Shoals High
School Class of 1959. She was previously employed by the Essex
Corporation in Orleans and then the Dana Corporation in Mitchell,
retiring due to declining health. She enjoyed watching the St. Louis
Cardinals and was a fan of NASCAR.
She is survived by one son, Gregory D. and wife Tina Waggoner of
Indianapolis, Indiana

Scott Dye, 59, of Shoals, Indiana passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015
at 1:32 a.m. at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville.
He was born
on October 7, 1955 in Washington, Indiana to Patsy (Hitchcock) Dye and
the late Henry W. Dye. Survivors include his mother Patsy Dye of
Shoals, one brother David (Lu Ann) Dye of Shoals and two sisters Karen
Dye of Shoals and Susan Dye of Evansville. He was preceded in death by
his father Henry W. Dye.
Scott was a member of the Shoals United
Methodist Church where he served as a church trustee and was a member
of the Methodist Men. For 38 years he worked at Red Door Industries of
Martin County and served on the Daviess-Martin County Board of
Directors for Four Rivers Resource Services. His work at the Red Door
included working at the Shoals Fire Department, JayC Food Store in
Shoals, Loogootee and Washington, and volunteering at the St. Vincent
de Paul Food Pantry.
Scott was an honorary firefighter for the
Shoals Fire Department for 20 years. He was a manager for Little League
Baseball and All Star Tourney Teams for many years and the Shoals
Junior High Basketball this past year.
Scott rarely met a
stranger. He loved attending sporting events and was a supporter of the
Shoals Jug Rox, Barr Reeve Vikings and Loogootee Lions. He enjoyed
watching and listening to the IU Hoosiers, Indiana Colts and the
Indiana Pacers.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on
Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals. A
funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 2:00 p.m.
at the Shoals United Methodist Church, with viewing from noon until the
hour of service. Pastors Joseph Seger and Delbert Stoll will officiate
the service. Burial will be made in Goodwill Cemetery in Loogootee.
In
lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shoals United Methodist
Church or Shoals Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available

C. Probasco, 66, of Shoals, passed away on Monday April 13, 2015 at
5:57 a.m. at Cathedral Healthcare Center in Jasper. Born on August 7,
1948 in Shoals, Indiana, he was the son of Luther and Margaret (Butler)
Probasco. He married Debra J. Johnson on May 8, 1989 in Daviess County,
Indiana.
He was employed for 44 years at the French Lick Springs
Resort in golf course maintenance. He loved his job and was well known
for his designs when he mowed the rough’s for the golf course. David
attended Martin County Schools and was of the Christian faith.
He
is survived by his wife Debra of Shoals; one daughter Tonya Probasco of
Shoals; three sisters, Loretta Jent of Oolitic; Marilyn Mills of French
Lick; and Wanda Probasco and Gene Merchand of Dubois; one brother,
Arthur Probasco of Shoals.
Preceded in death by his parents; sister Violet Way; and a twin brother
Dennis Probasco.

Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Loogootee Healthcare and
Rehabilitation Center. She was born on July 13, 1937 in Shoals, Indiana
to Theodore H. and Mary Hazel (Dunlap) Harder. She married Hiram G.
Sims on September 28, 1957 at the Hindostan United Methodist Church and
he preceded her in death on September 15, 2009.
Carolyn was a
graduate of Shoals High School Class of 1955. She retired as produce
manager from Loogootee Buehler’s and was formerly a bus driver for the
Loogootee Community School Corporation.
She is survived by
daughters, Lu Ann (David) Dye, of Shoals; Beth Brown of Rising Sun;
Donna (Chris) Beckman of Forsyth, IL; and Marsha (Tim) Lynch of Jasper.

Robert Lee Abel Jr., 64, of Bedford, died at 11:55 p.m. Saturday,
December 27, 2014, at his residence.
Born July 26, 1950, in Bedford, he was the son of Robert Lee Abel and
Charlotte Alice (Fiddler) Abel.
He married Carole Trowbridge on December 14, 1996, and she survives.
Robert
was a graduate of Bedford High School with Class of 1968 and was a U.S.
Air Force veteran serving in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War era.
He had worked at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital, Bedford starting in October
of 1976, in maintenance and then went on to work, for a short time, on
the hospital ambulance staff, ultimately becoming Director of
Purchasing, over 30 years.
Surviving are his wife Carole Abel,
Bedford; one step-son, Jason Welin; nephews Charlie and Jimmy Elkins
and Ryan Watson; one niece, Hallie Jo Abel; and one brother, John David
(Darla) Abel; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Diana Taylor.
A
Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday, January
4, 2015, at the Red Brick, Otis Park, Bedford. The family asks that
everyone bring a covered dish, photographs and stories to share with
the family to rejoice and remember Bob’s life.

Addie (Black) Cummings.
She married Hubert M. Henderson in 1946; he preceded her in death in
1993.
She
was a graduate of Heltonville High School with the Class of 1943; a
member of Mundell Christian Church, Heltonville, and was a homemaker.

Harvey “Mike” Divine passed away on February 17, 2015 at his home with
his wife, son, daughter, and sister by his side. He was born on
February 27, 1947 in Washington, Indiana to Harvey and Helen (Decker)
Divine. He married Sandra Neideffer on June 11, 1966.
Mike graduated
from Montgomery High School in 1965. He retired from Navsea at Crane as
a heavy motor vehicle operator in September of 2008, and was a lifelong
farmer raising cattle.
He was a past member of the Shoals Lions
Club serving as president in 1993, was a member of Board of Directors
of the REMC, nominating committee member for RTC, 4-H Board Member, and
Shoals Community School Board Member.
He dearly loved his family and friends and taking care of his Angus
crossbred cattle.
He is survived by wife, Sandra Divine of Shoals

January 21, 2015 at his home in Shoals. He was born on August 16, 1944
in Lawrence County, Indiana to Earl and Rhea Dawn (Tims) Hillenburg.
Tracy
enjoyed country music and singing. He loved to travel and made several
trips to Texas and Alaska. He was a retired self-employed contractor.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the Eastgate Manor Rehabilitation and
Nursing Center in Washington. Born on January 7, 1944 in Martin County,
Indiana, she was the daughter of Karlie J. and Catherine (Arvin)
Weisheit.
She married Lawrence Holt and he preceded her in death in 2009.
A homemaker, she graduated from St. John’s High School Class of 1961.
Clara attended the Natchez Community Church.
She is survived by one son, Karlie and wife Heather Holt of Orleans.
Three grandchildren, Addyson Holt, Mason Holt and Hudson Holt.
4 step children, 8 step grandchildren, and 9 step great-grandchildren.

Lane Boyd, age 46, of Shoals, Indiana, passed away on January 17, 2015
at 1:20 p.m. at the Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
Born on September 10, 1968 in Daviess County Indiana, he was the son of
Lloyd and Alice (Sorrells) Boyd.
Reese graduated from Shoals High
School Class of 1987 and Vincennes University with a degree in
Aviation. He was a commercial pilot, and most recently worked as an air
ambulance pilot for Air-Med Corporation in Alabama. He was a member of
Shoals St. Mary of The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
He is survived by his mother, Allie Boyd of Shoals

Stephanie Houchins of Shoals
One brother, Jeffrey Boyd of Cleburne, Texas

Barbara
F. Patton, 64, of Shoals, Indiana passed away at 12:12 p.m. on Friday,
January 16, 2015 at University of Louisville, Hospital. Born on April
7, 1950 in Crawford County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Harold and
Cornealia (Kemp) Patton.
Barbara is survived by her long-time companion, Bobby Holt of Shoals.
She
attended Shoals Baptist Church and currently attended The River Church
in Shoals. She was previously employed by Carefree in Paoli. Barbara
loved to read the Bible and do word searches.
She will be missed by her friends in Shoals and her little Chihuahua
dog.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and a brother in infancy.

Loogootee Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on August
14, 1931 in Martin County, Indiana to David and Ruth (Lindley) Tinkle.
She was married to Vernon Ragains and he preceded her in death.
She attended the Dover Hill Christian Union Church and she retired from
Jasper Furniture.
She
is survived by four brothers, Bill Tinkle of Jasper; Tennis Tinkle of
Petersburg; Harold Tinkle of Dubois; and Carl Tinkle of French Lick.

Allbright, 62, of Shoals, Indiana passed away unexpectedly on Thursday,
December 4, 2014 at his home in Shoals. He was born on July 1, 1952 in
Washington Indiana to Roy and Dorothy Tolbert Allbright. Leroy married
Beth Sorrells on January 4, 1975 at the Shoals Christian Church. Leroy
graduated from Springs Valley High School Class of 1971, and was a
veteran of the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War. He was a
member of the Loogootee United Methodist Church, Fraternal Order of
Eagles Aeries #2442, Shoals Veterans of Foreign Wars #8589, and Shoals
American Legion Post #61. He was an avid golfer and card player. Leroy
retired from Jefferson Trucking, was a member of Teamster Local #135,
and was former Marshall for the Town of Shoals. Wife, Beth Allbright of

On June 19, 1948 she married John Earl Wagoner Jr. and he proceeded her
in death in 1991.
She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Loogootee and retired
from Perfect Fit in Loogootee after 43 years.
Mary
owned her own seamstress business for several years. She enjoyed
playing bingo and was an avid sports fan. One of Mary’s favorite things
to do was to cook Sunday dinner for her children and grandchildren.
She

Clyde Dahlan Wake, age 87 died at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013
at Hillside Manor Nursing Home in Washington, Indiana.
He was born August 26, 1925 in Clinton, Indiana Benjamin
Franklin and Mable Clara (Dahlen) Wake
On
October 30, 1943 he married his first wife Edna (Gibson) Wake and she
preceded him in death on February 7, 1997. On July 5, 1997 he married
his second wife Laverne (Greene) (Eichmiller) Wake and she preceded him
in death on January 15, 2011.
Clyde was an ordained United
Methodist Minister since 1960 and was a Pastor since 1950. He started
his college education at Vincennes University and later received his
Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Evansville; Bachelor and
Master of Divinity Degrees from Butler Christian Theological Seminary.
He had special training in the area of Pastoral Counseling. Clyde and
his wife Edna studied Methodist History in England, and had traveled to
Ireland, the Holy Land along with many U.S. states.
He served on
the following boards during his ministry: Board of Pensions Northwest
Indiana Conference, Methodist Pension Development Corporation, Board of
Pensions South Indiana Conference, Division on Ministry South Indiana
Conference, Board of Ministry qualification panel, Vincennes District
Council, Vincennes District Board of Ministry, Vincennes District Board
of Trustees. He served many years as a Methodist Camp Dean at
Battleground, near Lafayette, Indiana.
Clyde and wife Edna served
the following Methodist Churches in Indiana: Glendale, Pittsboro,
Stockwell, Hammond Hyde Park, Taylor Chapel Fort Wayne, Walkerton,
Sullivan First Church, Princeton, Greenwood, Edwardsport, Walnut Grove,
Wesley Washington.
He was a member of the North Liberty, Indiana
Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite in Indianapolis, Indiana. He
enjoyed with friends bowling, golfing were he got a “hole in one” at
West Boggs golf course and earned the title of “Super Senior”. He did
woodworking and loved making candy.
He is survived by One Daughter: Cathie L. and husband Gerald Jones of
Jasper, Indiana; One Son: Robert D. and wife Mary Wake of Washington,
Indiana; One Stepson: Mark Eichmiller of Corydon, Indiana; Two Step

Catholic Church.

Mike “Bear” Walker, age 63 died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at St. Mary’s
Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana.
He was born on October 24, 1948 in Daviess County Indiana to
George K. and Marie (Arvin) Walker
On September 16, 1972 he married Ilene (Bradley) Walker and she
survives.
He
attended St. John High School and was a member of St. Martin Catholic
Church in Whitfield. He was a retired coal miner and enjoyed being with
his children and grandchildren, growing tomatoes and watching the
Cardinals baseball team and the Loogootee Lions basketball.
He was
a Vietnam Army Veteran serving from 1967 until 1970. While in the
military he was the recipient of the Bronze Star and Two Oak Leaf
Clusters. He was a past member of the Loogootee American Legion, V.F.W
and Knights of Columbus.
He

Rev. Paul F. Tarr age 79 died at 12:20 a.m. on Sunday,
March 9, 2014 at Memorial Hospital in Jasper, Indiana.
He was born on May 27, 1934 in West Baden, Indiana to Cohen and Bertha
(Britton) Tarr
On March 12, 1955 he married Lois E. (Davis) Tarr and she survives.
Rev.
Tarr was commissioned in the Wesleyan church at the Fern Creek Kentucky
conference in 1967. He served the south Indiana district of the
Wesleyan church before his health failed. Rev. Tarr ministered in
Martin, Greene, Brown, Orange and Monroe counties in Indiana. He was
also a retired welder with the former Johnson Controls in Vincennes.
He
was a member of Poplar Grove Wesleyan Church in Shoals and enjoyed
gardening, painting, doing crafts and was an avid IU Basketball fan.
He

Service Medal and a Combat Infantry Badge. He was a member of the
Loogootee American Legion and VFW.
He

Loogootee American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Jean was also the past

He was born February 6, 1924 in Chrisman, Illinois To: Mark Wayne and
Lillian (Benson) Trout
On October 16, 1947 he married Frances M. (Strange) Trout and she
survives.
Jack
was employed at Crane Naval Weapons Center from 1947 to 1978. While at
Crane he worked on the fire department for 28 years and at one time had
served as the assistant fire chief. He also worked as a part time tax
preparer for many years after retirement from Crane.
He was a
member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bramble and was a graduate of
Brazil High School in Brazil, Indiana. He also served in the United
States Navy from 1941 until 1947 and was a member of the Crane Indiana
VFW.
Jack enjoyed following the Chicago Cubs Baseball team along
with the Loogootee Lions Basketball and the former St. John High School
Basketball team.
He is survived by: His Wife: Frances M. Trout One
Daughter: Sharon and husband Dick Mentzer of Tucson, Arizona Four Sons:
Mark and wife Karla Trout of Loogootee, Indiana; Jack and wife Nancy
Trout of Sellersburg, Indiana; Jim and wife Sandy Trout of Franklin,
Kentucky Jeff Trout of Scotland, Indiana; Along with 4 Grandchildren, 4
Step Grandchildren, 1 Great Granddaughter, 7 Step Great Grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews.
He is Proceed In Death By: His

One Grandson: Ben Trout
A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated by the Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 10:00 a.m. on
Saturday, August 9, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bramble,
Indiana. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. There will be
military graveside rites conducted by the Crane VFW.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8th
at the Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Martin County
Community Foundation Ben Trout Scholarship Endowment

Roy Ziegler
Roy Henry Ziegler, Age 68 of Loogootee, Indiana died at 9:55 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at his home. He was born March 31, 1946 in Martin County Indiana to Fritz and Flora (Jones) Ziegler. He
was a retired coal miner with Solar Sources in Petersburg, Indiana. Roy
was a 1964 graduate of Alfordsville High School and he enjoyed farming,
horses, hunting and fishing. He is survived by Two Sons: Keith Lynn and wife Vickie Ziegler of French Lick, Indiana; Robert Morris Ziegler and companion Valerie Froome Of Loogootee, Indiana One Daughter: Kimberly and husband Darren Kenney of Cannelburg, Indiana One Brother: George Ziegler of Loogootee, Indiana Two Sisters: Betty Callahan of Odon, Indiana; Margaret Gregory of Brownstown, Indiana Seven Grandchildren: Logan Ziegler, Kyanna Moon, Aaron Ziegler, Joseph Moon, Tiara Kenney, Devin Kenney and Callie Ziegler He

Brother: Hinzie Ziegler Along with one infant brother. Funeral
services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 15th at
Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee. Burial will follow in South
Martin Cemetery in Rutherford Township in Martin County Indiana. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Brocksmith-Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.
