Each
Memorial Day, the Hanson Mcfee American Legion Post No. 61, Shoals,
Indiana places a flag on a Green Cemetery grave marked by a damaged
funeral home marker bearing no name. The post does not know the identity of the person buried there, only that it is an American soldier. May 16, 2014, Del Himsel of Ireland, Indiana and his son Jon placed a marker at this unknown soldier's grave and replaced some fallen markers. In the process, Del found a marker for the previously unrecorded burial of Nancy Bell, who is possibly related to the unknown soldier. Green Cemetery is located at the top of a steep hill, and is not regularly cared for, making placement of this 200 pound memorial marker difficult. |
