Zimri ELLIOTT was born in Randolph Co NC. On 2 JUN 1811 in
Randolph Co NC he married Martha "Patsy" MOSER daughter of Nancy MYERS
and Tobias MOSER. In 1819 Martha and Zimri and their four children
moved to Washington Co IN, then relocated across the county line into
Martin County Indiana where four more children were born. Their
children included Jacob N. ELLIOTT, William L.
ELLIOTT, Margaret M ELLIOTT, Jeremiah "Jerry" C. ELLIOTT, Rachel J
ELLIOTT, Edwin P. ELLIOTT, Mary ELLIOTT and Robert ELLIOTI.
Jacob Elliott (1818-1886) married Catherine "Kitty" Richardson on
17 Nov 1836 in Washington County Indiana. They had eight children:
Zimri, Jacob, John, Sarah, Kitty, Wm, Martha & Martin. Wm ELLIOTT
(1814-1981) married 29 JUN 1838 Washington Co IN Sarah Louisa Graves.
Wm is buried in Springhill Cemetery. They had eight children: Rachel,
Peter, Sarah, Martha, Wm, Lucinda, Phoebe & John.
Margaret Maria ELLIOTT (1816-1864) married William H Smith.
Jeremiah "Jerry" C. ELLIOTT (19 DEC 1818-1900) married 1st 7 APR 1842
Orange Co IN Elizabeth GERKING (16 DEC 1826-29 NOV 1861) daughter of
Mary "Polly" PHILLIPS and John GERKING Jr. They had 12 children:
Margaret, Mary, Zimri, Catherine, Sarah, John, Jeremiah, James, Jacob,
Wm, Nancy & Richard.
Jerry then married 9 OCT 1862 Orange Co IN Sarah Pipher (1824-1870)
and they had five children:
Peremilia, Francis, Emma, Enoch and Martin. After Sarah died, Jerry
married 28 JAN 1871 Lawrence Co IN Frances FITCH dau of Mary JONES
& Thomas FITCH; and they had four children.
Rachel Jane ELLIOTT (28 DEC 1821-4 JAN 1863) married JAN 1838
Washington Co IN Richard Radcliff (1814-1881 Martin Co IN) son of
Elizabeth VANCE and Charles RADCLIFF. Richard and Rachel are buried in
the Elliott Cemetery. Richard and Rachel had 10 children: Charles,
Martha, Wm
Zimri, Elizabeth, Rachel, Margaret, Jacob, Richard, John &
Catherine "Kitty".
Edwin P. ELLIOTT (13 APR 1824-6 MAY 1906 Shoals) married 9 Dec 1852
married Letitia Marley b 18 Mar 1832 d 11 Sep 1893 Shoals, Martin Co
In; dau of Sarah BLAIR (20 JUL 1813 Hawkins County, TN-5 MAR 1847
Martin Co IN) and Manley MARLEY(13 JUL 1812 NC-27 MAY 1885 Martin Co
IN).
Mary ELLIOTT (1828-27 FEB 1875) married John TERRELL. Mary is buried in
the Elliott Cemetery.
Two children: Zimri & John TERRELL.
Robert ELLIOTT (2 APR 1830-24 FEB 1904 Thayer Kansas) married 24 FEB
1853 Washington Co IN Mary Jane Roll born 23 FEB 1832 Washington Co IN
d 9 APR 1897 Lyon, Kansas; dau of Frances TURLEY and Stephan Thomas
ROLL. They had 6 childrenL Francis, Wm, Jacob, George, Alvion &
Martha.
Edwin P ELLIOTT was the first postmaster of the Willow Valley
branch established 13 JUL 1858. He also worked as a farmer and a
miller. Edwin and Leticia had four children:
Jacob born on 25 Jul 1853 and died on 14 OCT 1937 Martinsville, Morgan
Co IN,
Sarah ELLIOTT born 1859 and married Noah W. BOWMAN,
Eliza Ellen ELLIOTT 1863-1909 married Jeremiah MILLER and had one son Frank MILLER, and
George ELLIOTT OCT 1870-25 JUN 1922 and married 2 APR 1895 Anna MELLICK/METHENY and had one daughter.
Jacob ELLIOTT (1853-1937) married 19 APR 1877 Mary Elizabeth
LITTELL dau of Martha DONALDSON and Milo D LITTELL, and in 1884 moved
to Morgan County Indiana. Children were: Homer,
Ott, Cora and Ed Elliott. Judge Homer ELLIOTT was born Charles
Homer ELLIOTT on 9 JAN 1878 in a long cabin in Martin Co IN that was
still standing when he died 18 JUL 1952 Indianapolis, Marion Co IN;
he's buried in Greenlawn cemetery, Martinsville Indiana. After teaching
four yrs and attending Indiana University School of Law, Homer
practiced law and was a deputy prosecutor for the Owen-Morgan County
Circuit Court and nominated for both prosecutor and judgeship. The
family moved to Morgan County in 1918, living in Martinsville until
moving to Indianapolis when he was appointed by President Warren G.
Harding as a US District Attorney for southern Indiana, on December 19,
1922. He was noted for prosecuting a famous liquor conspiracy case in
Gary Indiana in which several officials were sent to
Federal prison. He also was instrumental in the prosecution and
conviction of Governor Warren T. McCary for using the mail to defraud.
He then resigned to be a special assistant US Attorney General. In 1932
he went into private practice. In 1936 Homer lost his run for
congress. In 1950 Homer was appointed Judge of the Morgan County
Circuit Court by Governor Henry F.
Strickler. Judge Elliott was a member of the Masonic Lodge,
Columbia Club and state and county bar
associations, and past president of the Indianapolis Bar Association
when he died. He was also an English
Barristar. Judge Elliott and wife, former Myrtle LEANORD had three
children, two living to adulthood: Kelso and Virginia Elliott.
Son Kelso ELLIOTT (1 FEB 1908 d JAN 1962 Washington DC) grew up to also be an attorney.
Durning World War II Kelso was a Coronel with the Judge Advocate
European Theater of War; was one of prosecutors of the Nurenburg
Trails. He graduated from De Pauw University and Harvard Law School in
1933. In 1941 was Cheif Counsel for Indiana Department of State
Revenue, then became IN Attorney General. He also was attorney for the
Senate Committee. In 1952 he was Appointed to the
Interstate Commerce Committe by President Eisenhower, (1953 was
director of the ICC) then in 1955 Kelso went back into private practice
in Washington DC where he was living when he died
unexpectantly. He is buried with family members in Greenlawn cemetery,
Martinsville In. Kelso was also an English Barristar and was admitted
to the Irish Bar of Ireland.
Otis ELLIOTT was born Milo Otis (14 SEP 1881 Martin Co IN-19 JUL 1955 Morgan Co IN) known as
"Ott", was a merchant, married Ruby R WALLACE and had one son Edward Elliott (1922-1998).
Cora May ELLIOTT (1885-1940) married Rev. Lyman C. Murr (no
children & Cora died
unexpectantly) Ed ELLIOTT (2 JUL 1890-12 JUN 1961) who quit school to
later become a cattle rancher, real estate broker and President of 1st
National Bank Martinsville, Morgan county Indiana. Ed was on the board
of directors for the bank from it's inception in 1932. Ed married Dee
McCormick and they had two
children.
