Emma Umphress

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1948 HOLD RITES FOR MRS. UMPHRESS The funeral of Mrs. Emma Umphress, wife of Sherman Umphress, whose death occurred at the family residence in Zelma at 12:35 o'clock Tuesday morning, was conducted from the Dixon Chapel near Fort Ritner at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon under direction of the Leston Jones Funeral Home of Heltonville. The services were in charge of Rev. Claude Reuter of Marshall Township, who offered prayer at the residence preceding the church services. Misses Rosemary Todd, Claudette Wiley and Betty Hawkins sang "Shall We Gather At The River: at the residence and rendered "Never Grow Old", "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Going Down the Valley" at the church. Floral tributes were in charge of Lois, Evelyn, Phyllis, Wilma, Roberta, Bonnie, Shirley, Carolyn and Burnett Umphress, Louise Klumpp, Emma Cummings, Ruth Esther and Marie Kindred, Helen Boling, Blanche Clampitt and Elma Lawson. Pall bearers were Mesdames Ernie, Harley, Opal, Paul, Emory and George Umphress, all daughters-in-law of the deceased. Burial was made in the Dixon Chapel Cemetery.
