FEBRUARY 21, 1920 -- DEATH --Of Mrs. Sarah Jane Patton Occurred At Her Home At Oolitic Today - FUNERAL TO BE MONDAY - Mrs. Sarah Jane Patton, wife of Albert Patton, died at her home at Oolitic this morning at 10 o'clock. Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 9 o'clock from the home. Burial will be at Harrodsburg

Naomi Edna Peel
 
MONDAY, AUGUST 3, 1970 Naomi Edna Peel, 77, Route 2, Bedford, died at 12:50 p.m. Sunday at Dunn Memorial Hospital.  She had been ill for the past two and one half years. She was born November 2, 1892 in Tennessee to John and Sara Vinyard Hood.  She married twice - first to Paul Phillips and second to Charles F. Peel. Both preceded her in death. Survivors include four sons, Paul L. Phillips, Clayton, Ind.;  Lawrence Phillips, Indianapolis, Charles Peel, Jr., Fremount, Ind.;  and Edward Peel, Indianapolis;  Five daughters, Mrs. Foster (Madeline)  Higgins, Indianapolis, Mrs. William (Lois) Allen, Bedford, Mrs. Darrell (Vera) Figg, Traverse City, Mich., Mrs. Geneva Kellett, Terre Haute, and Mrs. E. A. (Melba) McNew, Phoenix, Ariz. Also surviving are two step-children, Mrs. Morrell Meadows, Bedford, and Mrs. Hendrix George, Norman, Ind.;  16 grandchildren, five great grandchildren.  Two children, Mercedes Voorhies and Loyal Phillips, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Ferguson - Lee Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Jackson officiating.  Burial will be in the Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Ferguson - Lee Funeral Home after 6 p.m. today.t

FRIDAY, MAY 9, 1902 POPCORN The people of this place were grieved to hear of the death of Mrs. Rodger Peterson, which occurred Friday. Mrs. Peterson has been ill for several weeks. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community. Among those from this place who attended the funeral of Mrs. Rodger Peterson were as follows: Calvin Rainbolt and wife, Mina Rainbolt, Joseph Parker, Joseph Armstrong and J. W. Beyers

Bessie Phillips
April 21. 1907 - June 25, 1992
 
Monday, June 29, 1992 --  BLOOMINGTON Bessie Phillips, 85, Bloomington, died Sunday at Bloomington Hospital. Born in Wayne County, Ky., she was the daughter of Charlie and Jane (Keith) Thompson. She married Logan Phillips, and he preceded her in death in 1975. She was a homemaker and of Baptist faith. Survivors include two daughters, Jane Trinkle and Elvena Klips, both of Bloomington; two sons, Rathmial Phillips of Bloomington and Cordis Phillips of Aurora, Colo; four brothers, Rathmial Thompson, William Thompson, and Arter Thompson, all of Springville, and Robert Thompson of Bedford; three sisters, Pearlie Kidd Ottie Phillips and Alice Powell, all of Springville, several grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, two sistees, and one son, Coy C. Phillips. Services will be 10 a.m. Tueday at Day Mortuary, Bloomington, with Bro. Wendell Phillips officiating Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 5-9 pm today at Day Mortuary.

Friday, April 28, 1905 DEATHS PHILLIPS Claude E. Phillips died Friday Morning at 6 o'clock at the home of his mother, 4 miles southeast of town, of consumption, aged 22 years, 5 months and 12 days. Funeral Sunday at 2 o'clock. Burial at Crawford graveyard, by the Red Men's lodge of Tunnelton.

Barton P. Phipps
July 30, 1901 - September 21, 1989
 
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 1989 Barton P. Phipps, 88, R. 17, died at 6 a.m. today at Westview Manor Health Care Center in Bedford. A native of Lawrence County and retired stone mill worker, he was a member of the Millworkers Union and Gullett's Creek Baptist Church. He was born July 30, 1901, in Lawrence County, the son of Henry C. and Mary Jane Cahill Phipps.  He married Violet Lewis on Aug. 21,1923 and she died Oct. 4, 1978. Survivors include two sons:  Robert Phipps, Bedford, and Harold Phipps, R. 17, Bedford;  one daughter:  Mrs. Ruby Gail Owens, R. 17, Bedford;  three sisters:  Lois DeFord of California, Nancy Brummett, and Blanche Shelton, both of Bloomington;  five grandchildren;  and 10great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters:  Ada Smith and Ida Phipps;  and one brother, Treat Phipps. Funeral services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday at Day & Carter Mortuary, with the Rev. Ken Heiney  officiating.  Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the mortuary from noon until 9 p.m. Friday.

Violet (Lewis) Phipps
March 25, 1901 - October 04, 1978
 
WED., OCTOBER 4, 1978 Mrs. Violet Phipps, 77, R. 17, died at 5 a.m. this morning at Bedford Medical Center, where she was admitted three weeks ago. She was born on March 25, 1901, in Lawrence County to Elmer and Maude Fields Lewis.  On Aug. 21, 1923, she was married to Barton F. Phipps, who survives. She was a member of Gullets Creek Baptist Church. Surviving besides the husband are two sons, Robert and Harold, both of Bedford;  one daughter  Mrs. Claude (Ruby) Owens, R. 17;  five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren;  and three sisters, Mrs. Earl Turner, R. 17, Mrs. Paul Kern, Oolitic and Mrs. Juanita Hearth, Bloomington. Three brothers, Homer, Thomas Woodrow and Burl Lewis, preceded Mrs. Phipps in death. Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter  Mortuary with the Rev. Lewis Williams officiating.  Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the Mortuary after noon on Thursday.

Forrest Pinkston

FRIDAY, JUNE 5, 1987 FORREST PINKSTON Austin, Texas - Forrest G. "Pinky" Pinkston, 68, 6602 Nasco Dr., Austin, Texas, twin brother of Mrs. Kenneth (Edith) Reath and brother of Mrs. Charles (Gladys) Blackburn, both of Bedford, died at 5:30 a.m. May 29 at the residence.  He had been ill the past three months. He was born Aug. 2, 1918, in Bedford, to Arthur and Alice Quackenbush Pinkston.  He married former Mitchell resident Madeline Kelly, and she survives. He was a graduate of Indiana Business College and was a retired vice president of Hart Graphics in Austin where he continued as consultant after retirement.  He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, F. & AM, Scottish Rite and Gillen Post 33, American Legion. Surviving with the wife are one son, Glen Pinkston, Garland, Texas;  one daughter, Miss Nancy Pinkston, Garland, Texas;  and two grandchildren and two sisters. The cremains will be buried in Green Hill Cemetery with graveside memorial services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 9. Arrangements were by Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.

Effie A. (Knuckles) Poling

TUESDAY, JANUARY 16, 1973 Mrs. Effie A. Poling, 73, of 334 S Street, passed away at 5:35 p.m. Monday at E. B. Crowe Community Hospital where she entered December 29.  She had been ill since September. She was born in Martin County Jan. 4, 1900, to Mose and Maggie Knuckles.  She was married three times;   First to Jimmy Chastain who is decease, second to Elmer McKinney, deceased, and to Raymond Poling in September, 1950, and he survives. Also surviving are four sons, Morrell and George McKinney, both of Bedford, Robert McKinney, R. 2, Mitchell, and Albert McKinney, R. 1, Russellville, Ind.;  seven daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Wilma) McPike, Mrs. William (Violet) Skeen, Mrs. Richard (Bessie) Whitted, all of Bedford, Mrs. Robert (Margie) Patton, Muncie, Mrs. Stanley (Faye) Hicks, R. 4, Bedford, Mrs. John (Marie) York, Orleans, and Mrs. Robert  (Irene) Fuller, Indianapolis. Other survivors are 32 grandchildren;  21 great-grandchildren;  three half-brothers, Elmer Robbins,  Indianapolis, Andrew and Willis Robbins, both of Mitchell;  and two half-sisters, Ruby Ross of Bedford and Nellie Longlon, Indianapolis.Three children are deceased. She was a member of Englewood Baptist Church. Services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Day & Carter Mortuary, Rev. Richard Kern officiating.  Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call anytime at the mortuary.

Omer Porter

MONDAY JANUARY 24, 1955 OMER PORTER SERVICES HELD Funeral services were held in the Williams Church of Christ yesterday afternoon for Omer Porter, Church of Christ minister and native of Martin County. Bro. Robert Williams and Bro. Edwin Williams officiated in the 2:30 p.m. ceremonies.  The service was largely attended. Sherwood -Ferguson and Speer funeral home directed all arrangements, and prayer was offered at the funeral home by Bro. William J. Whaley preceding the church service. Flowers were in the charge of Mesdames Charles Lambrecht, C. G. Vincent, Paul Boyd, Serle Bridwell, Amel Porter, Paul Robbins, Ralph Burris, Harold Cessna, Forest Wilking and Elbert Chapman;  Misses Nancy Boyd, Sandra Jane Porter and Phyllis Chapman. Singers were Noble Adamson, Willie Adamson, Mrs. Henry Roberts and Harry Lee Thomas. Songs were "Never Grow Old,"  "Going Down The Valley" and "Precious Memories". Harold Porter, Amel Porter, Wayne Dillman, Walter Dillman, Paul Porter and Steele Dillman were pallbearers.  Burial was in the Church of Christ Cemetery adjoining the church at Williams.

Cora E. Pritchett

BLOOMINGTON -- Cora E. Pritchett, Bloomington, formerly of Bedford, died at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday at Bloomington Convalescent Center. Born in Oolitic, she was the daughter of John J. and Mary Jane (Hackney) Thomas. She married the Rev. Arthur K. Pritchett in 1917, and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and member of Fairview United Methodist Church, Bloomington. Surviving are one daughter, Alma Neff Keltner of Bloomington; one son, John W. Pritchett of Trenton, Mo.; one brother, William Paul Thomas; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four daughters: Sharon Holloway, Bette Chaney and two in infancy; two sons in infancy; one brother and six sisters. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Day & Carter Mortuary, Bedford, with the Revs. Ed Gardner and Carol Callahan officiating. Burial will follow in Donica Cemetery near Guthrie.
