Levi A. Nugent

SEPTEMBER 27, 1865 OBITUARY - Departed this life on Sunday, September 3?, 1865, at Redding, Lawrence County, Indiana Levi A. Nugent, aged 73 years. He was born in St. Mary's County, Maryland, in 1792; his father shortly after removed to Nelson County, Ky., where he resided until Levi was 12 years of age, when the family removed to the State of Indiana and settled in what was then known as Clarks Grant. Levi served in the War of 1812. Soon after the closeof said War he settled on White River, in this county, near Old Palestine. and resided in this county until the day of his death. He was a kind father, an affectionate husband and a true friend. He left an aged widow and a large circle of friends to mourn his loss. Thus, one by one, are rapidly passing away the early pioneers of our country; they were a rough, but noble hearted class of men, with far more virtues to admire then vices to condemn. May their heroic virtues ever be remembered, and their frailties be covered with the mantle of charity and forgetfulness. BENEDICT NUGENT Redding Ind., Sept 25, 1865
