Roy Jordan Kern
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25, 1986 Roy Jordan Kern, 88, 1206 Sixth St., Bedford, formerly of Fayetteville, died following a short illness at 9:25 p.m. Friday at the Bedford Medical Center where he entered Oct. 20. He was born May 28, 1898, in Lawrence County, to William Luther and Emma Florence Jordan Kern. He married Bess Lyde Myers Feb. 11, 1917, and she died Feb. 9, 1972. He was a retired farmer and a stockman concessionaire during which time he traveled extensively over Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky. Survivors include one son, James G. Kern, Bedford; one daughter, Mrs. Tom (Betty Helen) Haley, Seymour; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, George William (Bill) Kern and Ensign Luther C. Kern, who was killed in World War II. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Day & Carter Mortuary, the Rev. Merla Craig officiating. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the mortuary from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. Monday until the service time.

Monday, January 2, 1905 DEATHS KINDER. William Kinder died Saturday afternoon, at East Oolitic, of pneumonia, aged 54 years. Burial Sunday, at the Hopkins graveyard.

James Kinser
1875 - December 1946
MONDAY, DECEMBER 30, 1946 Monroe Farmer Is Found Dead In Home James Kinser, 71, farmer, residing in the Chapel Hill community in Monroe county, was found dead in his home Tuesday. Death resulted from natural causes, Dr. Robert Lyons, coroner, said. Funeral services will be conducted from the Chapel Hill Church at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Kinser is survived by four sisters: Mrs. Laura Stafford, of Bartlettsville; Mrs. Ella Anderson, of Oolitic, and Mrs. Sarah Miller and Mrs. Polly McPike, of Lawrence county.
NOTE: The paper lists his name as James Kinser but the cemetery records show Joseph Kinser buried at Kinser Cemetery, Marshall Twp. His father, Joseph, is also buried here.

SAT. , OCT 5, 1940 INFANT DIES Venetta Kinser, infant daughter of Gilbert and Helen Southers Kinser, Route 1, Heltonville, died at birth yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock. She is survived by the parents, three brothers and three sisters. Brief funeral services were to be conducted this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the grave in Heltonville cemetery. Leston Jones was the director in charge.

Zan Kinser

MONDAY, JANUARY 24, 1955 ZAN KINSER DIES AT HOME Zan Kinser, 68, Monroe County native and well-known resident of the Chapel Hill area, died at 3:55 a.m. yesterday in his home, where he had been seriously ill for two weeks. Mr. Kinser was in failing health for several years. Funeral services under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home of Heltonville will be conducted at the Chapel Hill church, with burial following in Covey Cemetery. The body will lie in state at his residence, R. R. 4, Bedford, until the funeral hour, 2:00 p.m. Tuesday. Born May 5, 1886 to William E. and Carrie Rogers Kinser, he was married in Terre Haute on June 30, 1911, to the former Zella Gambill, who survives. Mr. Kinser spent most of his life in the Chapel Hill area on the Lawrence-Monroe county line. Surviving with the widow are two daughters and a son, Mrs. Harold Eads, Mrs. Lester Eads and Kenneth Kinser, all of R. R. 4, Bedford. Also surviving are a foster daughter, Mrs. John Munn of Bloomington, a foster son, Larry Stancombe, at home, eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Mr. Kinser was the brother of Frank L. Kinser, R. R. 4, Bedford, and Mrs. Maude Smith, R. R. 1, Heltonville. He was a member of the Church of God. Rev. Morton Thomas and Rev. Ellia Broglin will officiate in the 2:00 p.m. rites at Chapel Hill tomorrow.

Ethel Verna (Puckett) Kirkman
Oct. 8, 1910-February 2, 1998
Ethel Verna Kirkman, 87, formerly of 623 H St., died at 8:53 p.m. Monday at Bedford Hospitality House after a lengthy illness. Born in Bonneville, Ky., (Hart County), she was the daughter of Samuel Francis and Mary Elizabeth (Waldon) Puckett. She married Earl Kirkman on Nov. 3, 1930, in Lawrence County, and he died in 1978. She was a homemaker and of Protestant faith. Surviving are one daughter, Marilyn Rameto of Brandon, Fla.; one sister, Nellie Kitzinger of Punta Gorda, Fla.; two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; one son, Marvin Kirkman; five sisters and brothers: Nora Garland, Ruby Boling, Raymond Puckett, Senolan Puckett and Gladys Puckett, and one grandson. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, Bedford, with the Rev. Richard Chase officiating. Burial will follow in Hilltop Cemetery, Avoca. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Lelah Kirkman
OCT. 20, 1891 - NOV. 27, 1994
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 1994 Lelah Kirkman, 103, R. 2, Springville, died at 10:48 a.m. Sunday at Bedford Regional Medical Center. She had been ill five months. Born in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Joseph and Jane (Smith) Lewis. She first married Noeful Brinegar Dec. 2, 1908 and he died Dec. 9, 1918. She married Clarence S. Kirkman June 12, 1920 and he died March 13,1983. She was a homemaker, a member of Avoca Baptist Church and a charter member of Avoca Vale Grandmothers Club. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Harold (Annetta) Kastner of Elkhart; three sons: Harold F. Brinegar and William "Bill" Kirkman, both of Bedford, and George Kirkman of Avoca; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild. Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Day & Carter Mortuary, Bedford, with the Revs. Bob Cherry and Bob Kirkman officiating. Burial will follow at Hilltop Cemetery in Avoca. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Fred W. Knight
January 25, 1901 Fred W. Knight, aged 21, son of J. W. Knight, who lives in the country
north of town, died at Indianapolis Friday, of pneumonia. The body came
down on the early Monon train Saturday morning, and was buried at the Ikerd
graveyard Saturday. Services at Bugg's chapel. Mr. Knight had been
employed for some time in a hospital at Indianapolis.

Ralph R. Krenke
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25,1984 Ralph R. Krenke, 72, 578 Eighteenth St., Bedford, died at 7:30 pm Monday at Dunn Memorial Hospital. He had been ill the past year. He was born Jan. 25, 1912 in Lawrence County, to Harry and Leota Brassfield Krenke. He married Flora Smith Moore on Feb. 26, 1949 at Martinsville, and she survives. He was a welder at Bedford Foundry and Steel and Indiana Steel. Also surviving are four sons, Glen Lee Krenke, Indianapolis, Robert Krenke, Ninevah, Ind., Russell Krenke, Bedford and Dale Moore, of Oolitic; five daughters, Ms. Clare Rose Krenke and Mrs. Glenda Norris, and Mrs. Russell (Dorothy) Speers, all of Indianapolis, Mrs. Thomas (Janet) Southern, Bedford, and Mrs. Donnie (Delpha) Brown, Leesville; 30 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sons, three grandchildren, one brother, and one sister. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Wednesday at Ferguson - Lee Funeral Home, Bro. Jay Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Linthicum Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 pm today. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
