Mary (Eldridge) Golden

FRIDAY, JAN. 7, 1898 Dan Eldridge received a telegram Tuesday, announcing the death of his sister, Mrs. Mary Golden, at 9 o’clock that day, at her home in Morris, Ripley county, Indiana, of dropsy.  Mrs. Golden’s husband and several children survive her.
FRIDAY, JAN. 14, 1898 OBITUARY - Died at her home in Morris, Ripley county, Indiana, Mary Eldridge Golden, aged 56 years. She was married to Wm. F. Golden May 2nd, 1870.  Her husband, four children – one having preceded her-four sisters, a brother and a large circle of friends and relatives are left to mourn her loss.  In a letter dated Dec. 15th, she wrote: ”I realize that I may not be permitted to live many days, but I would not live always, I ask not to stay; where  storm after storm rises, dark o’er the way.  My faith in Christ the Lord is firm.  I do not fear to pass through the valley and shadow of Death, trusting in His precious promises.”  She joined the Christian Church in 1860 and continued steadfast in the faith unto the end.  And thus is a mother’s love withdrawn from the home and the sweet spirit that binds the circle removed, and to those who most keenly feel the loss, the sympathy of friends is extended. While the sense of loneliness must come and the spirit of weeping because of earth’s losses, yet it is a blessed privilege by grace to surrender them to God in the spirit of the lines from a volume, treasured by her who has been removed.
Every year the Father calleth
Some loved one to endless rest;
And the heart, tho’ filled with anguish
Can but cry, “He knoweth best.
Every year some hand has finished
All it’s work for others here;
And we miss a voice whose accents
Fell like music on our ear.
But a year, not distant, cometh,
When we tread the vast unknown;
We shall find our ransomed dead ones,
Seated round the great white throne.
