Jane Carney
1850 - August 9, 1875

August 14, 1875 OBITUARY. DIED.--On Monday morning, at 11 o'clock, MISS JANE CARNEY. The deceased was a sister of Geo. J. Carney, deceased, whose death was too great a trial for so frail a flower, and was the cause of her early grave. It weighted upon her heart and mind until nothing but death was her consoler. She received all the sacraments of her church. The funeral of the deceased took place on Tuesday at 10 o'clock, Father KESSING's sermon was very sad and impressive. Her remains were followed to their last resting place by a number of mourners and the young ladies of the B. V. M. society of which she was a member. It is impossible for me, under existing circumstances, to present all the estimable traits of character of this lady in their true light. It is seldom we are called on to contemplate a character in which there is so much to admire, and so little to disapprove. Here she has been known since chidhood. Her acts of kindness, her deeds of love speak for her now much more eloquently than the pen of the writer. In all the relations of life, as a daughter, sister and friend she possessed rare excellencies. As we think of her as she last moved among us, and then contemplate the sin, the pain and the disappointments to which we are all exposed, we have at least the comfort of knowing that she is no longer exposed to these evils. She has suffered the last pain and felt the last pang of disappointed hope. Whatever storms may sweep over this earth, whatever s___ may be felt by those who survive none of these will disturb her repose. She rests from her sufferings and labor, while we know to our great comfort that our friend is taken from the evils to come, we know also that He who gave her for a time to cheer us in this lonely vale of tears, has but taken her back again. She is not lost but only gone before. Death is a sleep, and we delight to contemplate it under this idea, but it is not an eternal sleep; we, therefore, "sorrow not even as others which have no hope." Is the trial so hard then when we remember that our friend has only retired to rest before us. REX. Burial: Shawswick Township Green Hill Cemetery
