Alice (Cobb) Anderson
Feb. 6th, 1865 - Jan. 18, 1901

FRIDAY, FEB. 1, 1901 OBITUARY. Alice Cobb, youngest daughter of the late David and Francis Cobb, was born near Springville this county, Feb. 6th, 1865. Died Jan. 18th, 1901. Aged 35 years, 11 months and 12 days. On August 19th, 1891, she married to Mr. Ira Anderson. To them were born four children, only one of whom is living, a little girl five years old. Mrs. Cobb had been afflicted for two years or more with lung trouble; and after suffering long and growing weeks continually, on the advise of many friends they decided to seek a milder climate, in hope that it would benefit her. As is often the case those going to a more congenial climate, do not go soon enough, and so it was in this case. Mrs. Anderson was very weak and could hardly be up when they started on that long journey. She went down very fast from the time they reached their destination. And as already stated passed into that deep sleep from which no earthly friend could awaken. When the end came she was more than two thousand miles from home, amidst strangers, excepting her own household. "As once I wept, if I could weep, My tear might well be shed. To think I was not there to keep One vigil o'er thy bed To hold thee in a fond embrace And wipe the death sweat from thy face." Her death was expected soon, but the message that brought the sad news, has cast a lasting gloom over many friends and relatives. The once happy home where love reigned supreme, is now desolate. The plans and purposes born of love and devotion to the family, are cut short, and "what is home without mother" must be realized. The memory of her pure gentle life, is like the odor of sunset when twilight approaches. It is hard to part with one so good, but Heaven is made dearer to us, and so "God knows best." Mr. Anderson arrived over the B. & O. on the morning of Jan. 23rd, having traveled over 2,100 miles. On reaching Bedford, the body was taken to the home of Mr. E. L. Moore. The body had been so well cared for that the face looked perfectly natural. The features had scarcely changed. The funeral took place the following day, at Mr. Moore's residence. A goodly number of friends and relatives were present, among whom was Mrs. Cobb, mother of the deceased. Alice was conscious to the last and gave her husband assurance that all was well with her, that she felt prepared to go. The last words were "I am ready to go." She leaves to mourn an aged mother, a husband and little daughter, two brothers, M. C. Cobb, of Nebraska; and Cale Cobb of Springville; two sisters Mrs. E. L. Moore, of this city; and Mrs. James McFadden of Logan, Ind. The remains were taken to the Cobb graveyard for burial. A short service was expected at the cemetery, but owing to the severe weather it could not be held. Therefore be ye ready. J. WILLIAMS
