[This was a lengthy obit.]

Judge William Newland emigrated from North Carolina to Indiana in March 1816 and settled in Jackson County. He removed to Lawrence County in 1825 where he has resided since. For six years he was judge of the probate court. He died on January 19, 1854, age 62, after a protracted illness. He was a member of the Christian Church.

Joseph Bolton, age 25, died January 26, 1854, in Springville. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Mary Edwards, formerly of Lawrence County, married Emanuel Hatfield in Owensburg, Indiana, on January 12, 1854.
