Bedford Republican: "A letter received by Thomas Coleman from his son, a soldier in the Philippines, brings the news of the death of Louis Fidler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Fidler, of this city. Fidler was a member of the 40th Regiment and was killed on June 14, in the same fight in which John Haywood, also a Bedford boy, lost his life, but the first news of his death was received in the letter to Mr. Coleman. Mrs. Fidler is almost prostrated with grief."
