THE BLOOMFIELD NEWS, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, Friday, March 10, 1899, “POPCORN. A Pioneer Gone Interesting News from Lawrence County too Late Last Week.”  Another aged citizen passes to his reward. At a few minutes past 10 o’clock on Tuesday morning, February 21, after long-continued illness, during which the patient suffered much pain, the spirit, like a long imprisoned bird, made its escape from the mortal body and was beckoned to that sunny clime by the summoning angel that calls all chosen ones of the Father to that blissful rest beyond the sorrows of this life. William H. CULMER, the deceased, was born in an English home on March 1, 1822, being at the time of his death seventy-six years, eleven months and twenty days of age. He emigrated to this country in 1836 and ten years later was united in marriage with a saintly wife, who, but a few months before, preceded him to that better world. They settled on a farm two and one half miles north of Springville and there reared as happy a family of boys and girls as is seldom found. He united with the old Methodist church at Springville thirty-five years ago and during that time had been a true follower of the Master—indeed, living such a noble and pious life that three of his sons, following his counsel have taken to the life of the ministry. The funeral services took place Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the M. E. church, of which he was a member, conducted by Bro. John E. SHIEBOTTOM, assisted by Rev. Quincy SHORT. The bereaved relatives have the entire sympathy of the community.
