Gayle McCotter
Descendants of Erskine C. Clark Generation No. 1 1. ERSKINE C.2 CLARK (AMOS1)
was born 21 November 1845 in La Porte Co., IN, and died 24 December 1932 in La
Porte Co., IN.
He married SARA M. ODELL 14 July 1886 in LaPorte, IN. She
was born 15 January 1851 in Newark, NJ, and died 28 December 1925 in La Porte,
LaPorte Co., IN.
Notes for ERSKINE C. CLARK: Received his Civil War file
from Jerelyn (Fremont, CA) He was afflicted with diarrhea and sore eyes when in
the Civil War. His eyes bothered him off and on for many years and are
mentioned in his war pension files. In his files it states "From exposure and
hard diet during the Atlanta Campaign he contracted diarrhea and general
debility causing disease of the eyes--which still continues and greatly
disables him from performing manual labor, for which he prays that a pension be
granted him." (this was in 1883) The Captain Catlin referred to in his file is
Capt. John B. Catlin, probable first cousin. Pope C. Weed was Erskine's half
brother and they served in the same H Co. of Indiana Volunteers. Also in this
file it says (when he enlisted): 18 yrs., 5' 5 1/2", light skin, blue eyes,
dark hair. When his wife died in 1925, her obit mentions Erskine as a Commander
of the local post of the G.A.R. in LaPorte, IN. Note: We are 1/2 2nd gr.
grandnieces & nephews. Erskine & Pope had the same mother--Sarah Catlin
whose first husband was Patrick Weed and second husband was Amos Clark. More
About ERSKINE C. CLARK: Fact 1: 1863, Enlisted as a private in Co. H of the
87th Indiana Volunteers; Civil War Fact 2: 09 June 1865, Transferred to the

285711 Notes for SARA M. ODELL: Her parents were Mr. & Mrs. William H.
Odell. At time of death, her husband, a son, three sisters & a brother, W.
A. Odell, survived her. I found her obit on-line at the LaPorte Co. website and
a Glen McGlothlin sent me the information via email. She had been ill with
organic heart trouble for two wks. prior to death. They lived at 805 Chicago
Street. She was a member of the Women's Relief corps. More About SARA M. ODELL:
Cause of Death: Organic heart trouble. Fact 2: Buried at Union Mills Cemetery.
Note: She was a member of the Women's Relief Corps. Child of ERSKINE CLARK and
