Biography of Samuel O'Hara

Samuel O'Hara, son of Edward & Mary (Anthony)
O'Hara, was born in Pennsylvania in 1816 (Note: from tombstone b. 4 Nov 1815)
and is of Dutch-Irish descent. He went with his father from Penn. to Ohio when
he was 5 years old and, after remaining there about 12 years, came to LaPorte,
IN. He settled in Noble Twp. and owns 200 acres of land. He married April 1845
Phebe Shaw dau. of Benjamin & Alcey (Moore) Shaw. She was the mother of 2
sons, Benjamin E. and Jerome, of whom only Benjamin E. is still living. Phebe
died in 1849. Samuel was married the second time in 1852 to Miss Rhoda Lindsey,
(Note: b. 19 Apr 1834) who is now 49 years old and the mother of 8 children; of
these 5 are now living, Martha A., John W., Mary
(Note: Rhoda died 24 March
1888) L., Samuel T., and Etta O. Mr. O'Hara's early education was very limited.
Politically, he has been a Republican, but is now inclined to be a
Greenbacker.
Both Samuel and Rhoda are buried in Union Mills
Cemetery.
