Charles Dowd was born in Athens County, Ohio April 20, 1810 and died December 29, 1893 in La Porte County. He married Hiley Westcoat February 28, 1828 in Athens County, Ohio. She was born About 1811 in Vinton County, Ohio and died about 1838. Their children were Ervin E., Isaac F., Lucinda and Arvilla.
Charles married Lydia Ann Martin January 9, 1845 in Athens, Ohio. She was born December 21, 1820 in Ohio and died March 29, 1862 in La Porte County, Indiana. Their first two children were born in Ohio. Lydia C. was born about 1847 and Lydora about 1850.
Sometime after the 1850 Vinton County, Ohio census was taken and 1854 he and his family moved to New Durham Township, La Porte County and were joined by son Isaac F and his wife Eliza Reynolds. Charles filed an affadavit on behalf of his mother, Hannah Greave/Graves, in La Porte County in 1854. Hannah returned to Vinton County in 1859. Charles and Lydia had two additional children, Charles McKinsey born 1856 and Dolly born about 1861.
Isaac F. Dowd and Eliza Reynolds were married in Vinton County, Ohio December 14, 1853. Eliza was born May 21, 1836 and died September 17 1858 in La Porte County. Isaac was born in Vinton County, Ohio April 25, 1831 or 1833. The 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 census records indicate he was born in 1831 and the Earhart-Reed Cemetery records indicates he was born in 1833. He died April 28, 1898 and he and wife Eliza were both buried in Eahart- Reed Cemetery.
Lydia C. Dowd married Hiram H. Martin December 23, 1864. Charles McKinsey Dowd married Ella C. Evans December 19, 1877. Lydora/Ledora Dowd married John E. Cathcert (sic) June 29, 1867. Dolly Dowd married George W. Poston February 12, 1879. All marriages were in La Porte County.
Another son of Charles, Ervin E. Dowd, moved to Starke County, Indiana about 1892 with son Charles P. and daughter Margaret. A brother of Charles, Conner Dowd was a Hardware Merchant in Hebron, Indiana where he died in 1900. Charles P. was my grandfather and Ervin E. my g grandfather.
Holly Jenks searched for and found Charles Dowd and his second wife, Lydia Martin Dowd were buried in Door Village Cemetery, Scipio Township, La Porte County.
