Samuel Wiltfong was born June 4, 1823 in Lincoln, Ontario, Canada
and died September 12, 1906 in Mill Creek, LaPorte, Indiana.
Samuels gggrandparents, Johannes Woolfang and Maria Elisabetha
Gruber immigrated from Pirna, East Germany (Bohemia) to
Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania on September 1734 aboard the ship St. Andrew along with 263
passengers. They arrived in Philadelphia from Rotterdam, Holland. Johannes and
Maria Elisabeth took the oath of Allegiance at the court house in Philadelphia
on the same day as they arrived. They were one of the Pioneer Germans. His
great-grandparents, George Michael Wildfong and Catherine Shuford left North
Carolina and moved to Pennsylvania about 1796 and into Canada about 1802 after
the Revolutionary War. His father Elias Wiltfong and Elizabeth Hammacher
married about 1822 in Waterloo, Canada. They had two children in Canada. Elias,
Elizabeth, Samuel and Sarah Wiltfong migrated to Indiana.
Samuel is listed as one of the early settlers of LaPorte County, Indiana arriving in 1841 from Canada. He married Barbara Hostetler on January 29, 1843 in LaPorte County, Indiana.
Barbara was born April 26, 1823 in Somerset Co, Pennsylvania and died March 28, 1915 in Mill Creek, LaPorte, Indiana. They settled in Wills, LaPorte, Indiana.
Samuel was a farmer. Samuel and Barbara raised their twelve children in
that area. My grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Wiltfong was born in 1919, is the
great-grandauhter of
Samuel Wiltfong and Barbara Hostetler. She is still
living in LaPorte County, Indiana. Please see the obituaries for Samuel and
